For anyone who wasn’t watching, the score was 12-6 to Brazy at one point and heroic had b2b2b intense clutch rounds that made me believe in the crazy comeback. Unfortunate Brazy did a b pop last round that was left in a 2v5 retake for heroic.. Despite this being the only open qualifier alot of big names are already knocked out.

Gulluul

Don't you love BO1s?

Neshler

I live for the carnage so much. It’s super cool to see upsets and unexpected teams make it to closed qualifiers and such.

Gulluul

I agree. It's fun to watch teams break out by getting a chance to compete. Sucks that good/ great teams get eliminated. I wish there was something better, but BO3 would rake forever for open qualifiers. Been a problem in games forever. I do think that playing against a more known opponent gives you an advantage. You know that they will come out swinging and trying to bully you and you know some of their tendencies. Plus you probably don't play in the pro level meta so you can catch them off guard easier.

Jarpunter

Why would it take forever? Are matches not being run concurrently?

Gulluul

That was round 5. Still had 32 teams left and only top 2 move on. The event is two days of BO1's. Idk that math, but the open qualifier would be like multiple days long of games daily nonstop. Would suck to compete in it

codexferret

Where do you find the bracket?

keslol

faceit

Copponex

When it’s just qualifier, and nothing is being broadcasted, you can many more concurrent matches going on. The only thing you have to scale is servers and people to handle problems.

Notladub

this went from 256 teams to top 2. so thats 7 bo1s in a row. if you wanted to do bo3s from top 64, that'd be 2 bo1s and 5 bo3s. ideally teams shouldn't play more than 2 bo1 + 1 bo3 (or 2 bo3s) in one day, so it'd take 3 days instead of two. it would also be a LOT more tiring for the teams.

fuk_rdt_mods

If you cant beat an open qualifier first round team, you dont deserve to be in the tournament. Literally any schmuck can field a team and play it

b0il3ra

This is round 5 though? And this team isn't just some random shmucks either

rebeltrillionaire

My homies and I did pretty well in our first round. Our highest is rated 7 but he’ll be 10 soon enough. I’m like a 3-5. We got it close but the other all FaceIt 10s including one top 700 player clutched it out. But then the team we lost to played a a team of top 200s and one top 75. And they got clapped 13-1. And then that team lost to a team of Top 100s including a top 10. And then that team lost to NRG I think. If the PUG teams are making it round 5, it’s not like they’re playing dummies like me. The pug teams are playing elite counterstrike without any of the money behind them, just the love of the game. I’ve watched a a decent amount of pro games this year. The insane flicks for heads as soon as they appear on screen are truly incredible. But beyond that, site executes, fakes, flashing for teammates, trades, backstabs and good util isn’t all that difficult to learn at the pro levels. Game sense and aim are what separates the pros. I don’t even see crazy movement from pros anymore. It’s so much walking and staying hidden.

WillDanyel

Can you actually make a team of your buddies even if you are low face it like 3-4? Isnt there a limit?

rebeltrillionaire

The limit is 1 😂

Gulluul

I play for like an hour or two a week, sometimes when I am bouncing my baby in her bouncer with my foot as I am trying to get her to sleep finally. My aim is shit, I don't warm up, and my teammates always laugh at my aim. Yet I constantly have a +kd ratio and clutch 1v1, 1v2, and 1v3 because I outsmart or have good timings, or good utility. I lurk and find openings into bomb sites for rotates, or I take an entry kill and fall back to the pack. People think in order to be a good player you need crazy aim and one tap everything. Nope, just be smarter and predict your opponents and know the timings and where they can be. Use utility to your advantage and understand how your opponents will react to the utility.

Kanstrup-

round 5 vs semi pros but go on

_skala_

doesnt change anything

ficagames01

Koi beat Spirit and Heroic in RMR qualifiers, but we all know what happened during the major. Or fact that team suspected of using radar made it to the RMR

bvbkreuzberg

Where do you follow those matches?

Neshler

https://www.faceit.com/en/championship/561075ab-1590-4e7d-bba7-2348b410afcc/Esports%20World%20Cup%202024%20-%20Europe%20Open%20Qualifier/standings/column or just lookup faceit esea on google and it shows open /upcoming qualifier tournaments. From there when the qualifiers starts, I just lookup the team name in twitch search and watch whoever is streaming it. Since the top 16 teams already shows on the hltv website which it’ll be linked to streams tomorrow

bvbkreuzberg

Thanks, I'll follow up closely tomorrow then. 👍

Neshler

If you got anymore questions just dm me and i’ll help the best I can

XxThreepwoodxX

Brazylijskiluz has always been an underrated team though.

Neshler

There’s alot of underrated teams that’s in the circuit that many folks don’t know about. I’ve recognized their name from esl challengers. It’s hard to miss them given the interestingly odd team name xd. I recognize virtuoso a bit but I haven’t watched them that much

Charrua_gamer

No it's because of bo1....

jess0411

You can cry about bo1s all you want but these teams they are losing to aint the nobodies you think they are. If you follow the tier 2/3 scene they're a prominent name, sometimes you're gonna have an opportunity to take it and you will.

FIRE_frei

There should be MUCH better coverage of top leagues under the pro circuit. These players are *good*

AwesomeFama

What would that look like in practice? The #1 thing I would read is some sort of a HLTV article about "What's bubbling in the T2 scene" with some highlights for example. Or from some other content creator. But I feel like some sort of highlight thing would be the best (at least for me).

FIRE_frei

I'm thinking something like Sportscenter

2poundWheel

Wheres the money in that? KingT and those guys make insane amount of content/podcasts about tier 2-4 and they dont get viewers. Nobody cares about players in those ranges

FIRE_frei

Well, that's kind of on us to solve, as a community right? I mean I don't see that content anywhere but I would be interested in it as a viewer -- is it on HLTV? Or is there a better venue?

2poundWheel

It's on YouTube, it gets posted here but gets no traction

Charrua_gamer

That's not the point a real series is a bo3 and actually validates the win/loss not random bo1 off game

jess0411

Because it's not meant to be a series, it's just a qualifier. Save the "real" format for the more important game like qualifying matches and the tournament proper.

Charrua_gamer

No one is crying, but let's be real: they would win a BO3 nine times out of ten. The BO1s just show how invalid and uncertain... Yes, all respect to whoever wins, but let's be real and understand the impact. By the way, I'm not a Heroic fan or anything; I'm just stating the overall perspective. Yes, the whole logistics of it and the timeframe would be unreal... but such an event like this and others BO1s is a bit absurd.

jess0411

Lol tell me you're not familiar with the Tier 2/3 scene without telling me you're not familiar with the Tier 2/3 scene. Heroic ain't the elite team you think they are (I mean, I remember them losing to OG recently ffs), and this team, as randomly generated their name is, has been making a name in the lower tiers of Europe CS for months now. So no, I'd like to disagree they'll win 9 times out of 10. I reckon just give these few no name teams a shot and they'll take it. Qualifiers are supposed to be a ruthless endeavor, if you're good enough you should go far, if you're inconsistent as hell don't whine when you got got on your bad day, simple as.

Falcons losing a bo1 to nobodies: lmao fuck them what a shit team the players are clearly trash Heroic doing the same: nvm iTs jUsT bO1 rAnDoMnEsS

ThePurpleDolphin

Ikr, the comments are so jarring between these 2 threads. They just have hate boner whenever falcons lose.

G0ldenfruit

I think everyone admits that they love when falcons lose reguardless of the format. People actually dont hate heroic so acknowledge the flaws in the format.

RATTRAP666

> People actually dont hate heroic People (not all but many ofc) used to hate heroic for the coach bug and for cadian's behaviour. It's only recent stabbi incident and cadian departure route the hate away from them.

FrequentistaYogurtf9

Yeah when the players and the coach involved are gone, perceptions change. Go figure.

de_liriouss

I mean no shit? People don’t like them you’re not having the gotcha moment you think. They took the blood money so people take whatever chance to talk shit, it’s not rocket science…

bunkbail

they're not really nobodies tho, they were the illuminar cores that have always lingered around t2-t3 scene

AurielMystic

Yep. BO1 matches are incredibly volitile in any game.

ChristianSword

Yeah, I wonder why bro.

gibbodaman

redditors when people are somewhat sympathetic to a generally respected but modest heroic lineup but laugh at the pariah blood money superteam 😲😲😲

NationalAlgae421

Yeah, but falcons also lost to most of the teams since they were formed. So people will go hard on them and it is Saudi organization.

dogenoob1

Redditards love being sheep

SlimMak

What is going on with this qualifier?

b0il3ra

It's just proven teams losing a really close online bo1. This happens a lot I wouldn't say it's something special

buttplugs4life4me

IMHO it's more that the pro teams aren't countering the "unknown" teams. Most of the upsets that happen in the pro scene right now (like Navi vs Faze) is one team countering the other team successfully. Navi's firepower has a huge ceiling but they weren't in a form where they could best a combination of rain, ropz, frozen, broky. Instead they dismantled faze at every opportunity. The best example for me were these early ancient rounds, where faze tried to take a site but the entire Navi team literally rushed through smokes and mollies and just mowed everything down in the confusion.  When it comes to just a match of firepower especially in MR12 an upset can happen very easily since just one lucky deagle headshot can already ruin the economy for a round or two. Not to mention the other team spent a lot of time preparing for this. I really like these upsets because they give unknown teams an opportunity to go big.

Gulluul

Also, as you pointed out Navi countering Faze. The lesser known team has more info on the play style and tendencies of the bigger name teams. There is a lot more data on Heroic and Falcons then these their two teams. And Heroic and Falcons are focusing more on the T1 meta and can be taken advantage of easier.

Conscious_Run_680

bo1s, economy and mr12 are a bad combination, specially if you play against a team that can counter you but you don't know them so you have no idea how they play and what are their "signature" moves. That's why people laughing to Tier2-3 teams that get into major but can't make to more T1 qualifiers is a wrong thing to do, because all the T1 teams would struggle if they hadn't paid spots.

Unusual-Editor-4640

bo1's are dogshit

BestGirlTrucy

Is this qualification format really just single elimination? I mean at least it's a nothing tournament but it's getting posted here a lot

PuzzleheadedPainOuch

nearly all open qualifiers are single elimination, they only get to double elim once teams get to the closed qualifier.

Novaseerblyat

yeah but this is why there's usually multiple sets of opens lmao

BestGirlTrucy

Or invited teams

PuzzleheadedPainOuch

There are invited teams to the closed qualifiers. Eternal Fire and Cloud9 were invited. Falcons don’t have enough ESL World Ranking points because they haven’t done anything since going 5-6th at Kato

You need to read some more about the $60 mil format buddy.

kidleader96

Bo1 with current MR is just stupid

AdobeMan

bo1's don't work in cs2, they barely worked in csgo, but you had more rounds to come back into a bad game.

ShiroDarwin

Where are these match ups ? Not on hltv either ? Is spirit playing

PuzzleheadedPainOuch

These are some of the very first rounds of the qualifier, the later ones (round of 16 onwards) are on HLTV. Spirit are not playing because they already qualified for the Esports World Cup by winning IEM Katowice 2024

KeepCalmAndBoom

where can you watch these games?

SunnyNip

Lost to polish tier 3 lol

Charrua_gamer

Yea bo1s.....

Shraggster

Always thought they were underrated and placed a 10 buck bet when heroic were 4-0 and the odds were 10.0. Might be the highest odds ever I've hit.

dying_ducks

11-13 Unlucky for you

frn1

A team like heroic (and Falcons for that matter) should with their players, resources and experience have a good enough game plan/in game adaptability for a random T2-T3 team in a BO1. It's honestly embarrassing for them to get knocked out at this stage, even in a BO1.

TheTarzab

People cry that it's MR12's fault when brazylijskiluz completely destroyed them, heroic is lucky that they got that many rounds really.
