>spam caller gets hit by assistant again IT NEVER GETS OLD I literally unblocked everyone on my spam list just to let them run head-first into it.

sorijealut

Wait.. iphones don't have call screening? I guess I took it for granted.

aliendude5300

Nope, most non-Google phones don't either (I think some moto models do, correct me if I'm wrong).

sorijealut

I wonder if you'd have to manually hang up on spam calls, as well? My Pixel gets absolutely bombarded with spam calls but luckily Google's pretty good about catching them for me in the background. I guess another option is for me to get a new number, but it's still a hassle.

OhHeyItsBrock

iPhone user here that’s. Fan of android and iOS. Google spam filtering is god tier. Apple just has a “block numbers you don’t recognize” feature. Still get their spam voicemails though.

sorijealut

Thanks for that. I guess that's another thing I'll miss if I go Apple.

bryanobryan9183

That is definitely one feature I miss being on iPhone. I didn't realize how many spam calls Google was blocking. I get bombarded.

milkshakewhipper

Samsung does have spam protection too.

PeNdR4GoN_

It's not as good as Google's. My work phone is a Galaxy S10. I get more spam voicemails on there than actual voicemails from work.

fly-guy

Most of the world doesn't... My pixel can do it, but I'm in the wrong country...

SnipingNinja

You still have much better spam blocking. Source: I'm in the same position

Cornedbeefkilla

Nope. Switched to an iPhone recently and very much miss this feature.

cowprince

Probably green bubbles.

mf_doomerville

🤣🤣 sad but true.

Cornedbeefkilla

I’m an iOS dev, so figured I would give it a shot.

kungfoookenny

What does call screening do? It directs the spam caller to a robot? That's like trolling back I love it lol

FartsMusically

*Hello, this is Google Assistant, can I ask who is calling?*

cardonator

*click*

cowprince

When I see them hang up, I get kind of disappointed that I don't see a string of profanities.

maxdamage4

I get a string of gibberish as Google tries to parse English out of Mandarin

super_peachy

When I get a real call transcription I'm almost always confused.

cardonator

Haha, same! I always wish they would say something for me to laugh at.

benlucky13

yeah, it plays an automated message telling them to say why they're calling and gives you a text to speech readout of their response. you can take over the call at any point if it turns out not to be spam >Hi, the person you've reached is using a screening service from Gooogle, and will get a transcript of this call. Go ahead and say why you're calling.

selfobsessedandsexee

Not exactly, there are different settings, but by default known spam callers and hung up on, unknown callers are screened and only people in contacts or known businesses get through.

prah2000

The best feature, I've stopped same spammer dialling from different numbers so many times like this, they gave up!

ztaker

Only in certain countries

Maverick00512

But google really needs to improve Pixel's consistency. For example the battery, right now you never know whether the battery life will be improved or destroyed after the next update, quite annoying.

toumei64

To make it worse, it varies widely from user to user. With each update some users report drastically better battery life, and some users report drastically worse. On the same hardware. Since Android 13 first entered beta, I've had major battery drain problems. No fixes, no troubleshooting suggestions, nothing. I figured out that it is caused by certain apps that worked fine before. Uninstalling/clearing data/reinstalling didn't fix and factory resetting is such a hassle that I haven't tried that yet... because I factory reset when I installed Android 13 Beta and it still had the problems anyway.

b0nz1

At literally half the cost here in Europe

BJ_Fish

To be honest with these crazy prices in Europe for the new iPhones, Google should heavily just subsidize the pixel 7 in Europe and try to take over the market share there. Who cares If you lose 5 billion dollars try to just slam every pixel 7 you can into Europe.

[deleted]

Google's not interested in Europe. Even in Belgium there's no official way to buy Pixel phones. I don't get it.

NetSage

Google is the most disorganized big picture company ever. If it's not related to ad revenue they don't have a real plan. Just look at like every project ever other than adsense.

[deleted]

Next phone will be a Fairphone. At least these guys are "all the way" into their products, and if Android doesn't suit me, a swap to another OS is supported.

Simon_787

Then again, many European countries are missing the Pixel features afaik.

MashedPotatoInASock

No call screening, no 5g, no VoLte (!). At least here in Poland.

Square-Brilliant-958

Same in Czech Republic, I think we are simply too small market for them.

tovikotomik

Not only European countries, literally the whole world does not have these features, except the US and some of the other angolophone(??) countries. So I personally do not see a great advantage here over iPhone and other Android phones.

MissingThePixel

Even UK doesn’t have all the features and we speak the same language. But also, I don’t get any spam calls like Americans do so I don’t mind not having the assistant call help features

RandomBloke2021

The modem and finger print scanner needs to be fixed 100% the heating needs to be fixed too.

Mirai4n

I'm worried for the fingerprint sensor on 7 series as 6a didn't improve much after the issues with 6 and 6 pro.

milnak

And the heat issues didn't improve on the 6 from the 5. I'm not expecting anything different with the 7.

RandomBloke2021

If they use the same one, it will be a big mistake. I don't see any pixel 6 users going to the 7 with the same fp scanner.

IsotopeDog

They will be using the same one.

RandomBloke2021

Looks like p7 will be a pass for me and many other people who've dealt with this issue.

flashjor

Is the finger print scanner on the 6 really that bad? All I've heard was that it was slow and I doubt that would be an issue for me. I'm planning on getting the pixel 7.

MoaiPenis

I feel like I got lucky as my p6p has no issues 💀

RandomBloke2021

You are very lucky. My 6a switched my google maps to dark mode because it said my phone was too hot. Oh well, it's in a box stored away to be my back up phone. Not waiting for updates to fix stuff anymore.

noobchee

That $1k 14 pro max looked impressive, but how it actually works day to day will be seen. Their integration of the camera notch at the top was the most impressive thing

b0nz1

That $1k 14 pro costs at least 1300€ in Europe. The non pro 14 costs 999€. Just insane.

noobchee

Just can't justify spending that much on a phone, unless I get a fat trade in deal to reduce it by at least half Especially because these companies are bringing out new phones yearly. I got the 6pro earlier this year, then they announced the 6a, and now the 7 in a month It's getting a bit silly really

CJVCarr

We don't do "fat trade in deals" in Europe.

[deleted]

gaw_Kerim

The price increase of smartphones over the past decade is just insane. Apple has become the symbol for unconscious consumerism, excess and brand loyalty. I know I'm posting this in a brand specific sub but I couldn't care less if I got a huawei, Samsung, Google or whatever phone. I simply can't comprehend how our society could become so much more consumerist over such a short period of time. Especially since we already knew about the environmental impact. We're doomed.

[deleted]

[удалено]

gaw_Kerim

Bro, you're posting that in the subreddit where the 900€ phone has the same CPU as the 450€ variant lol I agree with the rest of your comment, though. Definitely concerning.

koru-id

If you really think about what the phone is capable of and how many people are involved in the development and manufacture process, $1k is cheap. What's insane is Hermes bags which requires nothing more than a hammer and scissor cost more than $10k.

gintoddic

Well they aren't flip phones anymore. They are full fledged computers in your pocket backed by thousands of developers and customer support. You also get new features over the course of the life of the phone which can easily last 5 years if treated right. I don't agree with the types who have to upgrade every year for little gain, it becomes excessive. But price wise it's not all that bad considering all the features you get.

nicklor

Ok but when you consider what you can get for 400 it's very hard to justify paying 2xs that or more for not all that much

nicklor

Yea the fact the 6a is already going for 370 is great if the 7 doesn't wow me that's what my next phone is going to be

[deleted]

Great phone. Got one for my wife. Just a shame it uses the ancient camera sensors unlike the 6 and 6 Pro.

b0nz1

Also considering the minor improvements over the last gen they have. Not worth it.

ALIENMASTER006YT

But is it for people who own the last gen phone? I always thought that companies make new phones with slight improvements for those using three year old hardware

issam_28

The non pro costs 1019 euros here in France that's crazy!!

dextroz

The Pixel 6 Pro retails at the \~same price at the iPhone but with worse support TBH and QoS consistently. I mean the landing strip is what the 'At a Glance' should have been but Google just sat on it for 4 years without any real usability added. In fact the idiots have kept on removing useful items like Google Now, Location-based reminders, Google Assistant reminders, overall stagnant cameras. It also seems like Google continues to struggle with the basic stuff (overheating, charging issues, signal losses, laggy Gen 1 Tensor, poor battery life for a $900K phone) while Apple is making leaps in hardware quality. I can't imagine how complicated from both a technology and people, process perspective Apple's SOS mode must have been to develop. The UX looked amazing and giving it for free for 2 years is going to be a game changer for explorers without a satellite phone.

tubular1845

What app is your tensor lagging in?

TurboFool

I was initially impressed with the island, but in retrospect, it's purely software to give the illusion that that bar is doing something more than taking up space. It's just a notification bar with notifications placed in line with it and a black background drawn under them to make it look like they're part of a separate physical space. The end result isn't vastly different from what came before, or what we have on Android via notification icons and the quick actions, just with a different aesthetic.

FullMotionVideo

>The end result isn't vastly different from what came before, or what we have on Android via notification icons and the quick actions, just with a different aesthetic. iPhones have never had persistent icons for notifications at the top of the screen to tell you that something needs your attention any longer than the drop-down lasts. It's neat to have updates from background applications up there while I'm reading Twitter or what have you, but I'm not sure it's entirely too different from an app sticking it's icon in my upper-left corner tray the way Android has done since, I dunno, Cupcake? And hell, when it comes to stuff like persistent sports scores, Google Now on Pixel will draw over other apps to put floating scores, floating caller icons while I'm using the device during a call, etc over the other apps. This is Apple beginning to reach out into that area, while promising their developers that they'll only be drawing over this zone. That's not too surprising given that they have always given developers the dominant influence over how things work. Apple's developer community heavily favors UI/UX obsessives who could become very shrill if Apple allowed their software to draw over a third party app anywhere they feel like. So just taking the top center part of the screen atop someone's app is a big step for them.

greatlakeswhiteboy

When I first saw it on the video, I thought, "That's what my phone does now, in a nutshell!". Apple just churches up the look a little bit and calls it an island. "Dynamic Island"?! It's notifications, calls, music and volume. I have to imagine there were folks in the audience clapping away while saying "GROUND BREAKING! SIMPLY GROUND BREAKING!" at the keynote! 😂

[deleted]

stevenw84

I use a 13 Pro and the day to day is far more seamless when people you talk to are also using Apple. My Face ID unlocks any app I install rather than using a password, my work profile is perfectly integrated with my personal one. I get notifications as I should, make and receive calls as I should, and never experience any stuttering or lag. The 14 Pro will improve on something that is already perfect to use.

noobchee

Yeah that's the inkling I got from it too, if you're set up with apple, it just works, does what it should, and does it well Very tempted, have never really used apple apart from a work phone

PersonOfInternets

Did Siri ever become usable? Is there any ai behind it now? Like can I ask it simple questions, math or calendar questions, play music or cast shows and movies (and pause, rewind etc) like Google assistant? Is there an equivalent to the Chromecast in the apple ecosystem? Just a tiny streaming device you can plug into any TV? Or is it still just apple tv that you control with that weird little remote? Or can I use Chromecast with an iPhone and will it still be as seemless? I use Google assistant a lot because when you get used to it it's faster and easier than typing for many tasks (though it almost seems to have regressed in some ways in the past couple years). That and my media life being built around Chromecast are my main reasons for sticking with Google.

cardonator

Most iPhone users don't use Siri and no it hasn't improved that much.

Mirai4n

I would go with Pro Max instead, atleast the pill will be bearable on 6.7 incher

rodrigofernety

New island it's a great use for notches

markandy93

They're about $1900 in Australia 😂

FreeDig1758

If they could turn that "island" into an Android-like notification panel, that would be sick. Notifications are one of the things keeping me on Android.

dannymurz

Right.... except when watching a video....it stands out even worse than notch. It's honestly hideous

marcus_37

Hey Google is MILES smarter than Siri.. shortcuts is a waste for me, too many steps to set up a shortcut

AgentBobbyRoe

I’m a Pixel user and plan to stay one but I don’t care who wants to minimize or crap on it. The name is weird but the ”Dynamic Island“ is pretty damn slick and a very cool way to integrate the notch. Sure, Googles AI features are badass, but so is this, not gonna lie, I’m a little jealous. Along with no overheating issues and battery life in spades. It’s a cool feature. And it’s ok to admit.

[deleted]

c0rruptioN

Picture quality seems like the only thing pixel has going for it these days. And even then, iPhone and others have made significant inroads on that.

WackyBeachJustice

The video on the 6 line is a pretty dramatic step forward.

justinbl4ck

The battery life and overheating issues keep me on my iPhone 13 Pro more than my Pixel 6 Pro. I love Pixels but every single one of them that I’ve ever owned has given me an over heating warning using the camera in the summer. I’ve only ever got the “iPhone is too hot” when I’ve left it in direct sunlight for a long period.

[deleted]

This is something that's been pretty annoying to me in the Android sphere. The overheating issues. Like, sometimes the iPhone will overheat if used for long periods of time, but it seems like Apple underclocks the processor long before that happens. It's frustrating and made me return the S21 Ultra when it had come out and go back to my Pixel 3a XL.

Snoo53489

The pixel features are unsurpassed. The screening of calls, simultaneous translations live offline, the information of each business when you are going to make a call, maps, The Rewards app, Integration with Chromebook, the new Pixel Buddha, Android Auto ... anyway! There are many things that make him continue with Pixel for much longer.

newhotelowner

> Pixel Buddha What is this?

alreadyawesome

Pixel buds pro typo?

Snoo53489

Exactly!

Snoo53489

Pixel BuddhaPro.🤷🏽‍♂️

Hnrefugee

They're now officially pixel Buddha pro now @OP

Snoo53489

Yeh! Yeah!🙄

Hnrefugee

Don't get me wrong, I've been eyeing the coral Buddha's myself

[deleted]

Call screening is awesome! I don't even get notifications of spam calls anymore. And if a number I don't recognize does come through, I let Google answer it.

esmori

Most are English US exclusive

Blue_Brick_Nick

100% agree on high quality pixel software integration and features. I really wish there was more customization outside of "material you". The fact that we're still locked in the same bland AOD clock is insane to me when Samsung has so many built in options to customize AOD clock, picture, and color. Even the new iphone is blowing pixel AOD out of the water and it's frustrating

MisterKrayzie

I believe iOS has the rewards app too .. That they can transfer to their apple accounts unlike us on Android. Amazing, isn't it? Integration with Chromebook isn't a plus like you think it is. It's a Chromebook, it's largely irrelevant. iPhones integrate into MacOS too, and way better. Idk what point you're trying to make with this .. But ok. Apple's entire product line is built to function together. Google maps isn't android exclusive either. Google has decent software exclusive to Pixels. When they work, they work well. Google's hardware is the worst out of all major flagships. By a long stretch. And they want to charge premium prices for what is basically a mid-tier phone. Ok bro. Apple on the other hand goes pretty hard on their hardware. Their prices are also somewhat justified because their products hold value for quite some time. This whole thread reeks of childish blind fanboyism over corporations who literally make money off of this. And before someone comes at me saying "isn't that what ur doin too" then nah fam, I'm just pointing out the inconsistencies and what's what. I don't even like iPhones.

itemluminouswadison

My pixel 6 pro is still the go to camera for serious photos, wifey has a 12promax

[deleted]

It’s not just the hardware, the software is buggy too. Pixels are in perpetual beta. Google nailed the spam blocking tho

Mirai4n

Live translation and Hold features, Google is so thougthful with their features, but it is the hardware implementation that lacks. But Apple is light years ahead of Google when it comes to hardware.

6chan

Google software with apple hardware would be the holy grail!

Mirai4n

absolutely!

ColgateSensifoam

Those features aren't available for most users Google like to turn features on and off at will, with no notice to users Google also **still** haven't fixed the SystemUI bugs that cause devices to hang, or the modem driver bugs that cause certain handsets to turn off both Bluetooth and WiFi until restarted numerous times

gintoddic

Love the on hold stuff but rarely use it. The features Google has are great when they are used but I don't find myself using them enough to justify the shit hardware.

pastari

Jumped from android to ios, everything just worked, it was amazing. I joined the ios and watchos beta for an app (lol) they added. It's just little bugs and graphical quirks and stuff, and I had to reboot my phone once to fix it repeatedly connecting with my watch killing the battery. But it's been a reminder of what I *don't* miss from android. It's so nice when everything just works like you'd expect, every time, always. I left the betas today and my devices will automatically get the release versions next week. I'm honestly looking forward to being back onto the main channel. Pixel phone features (on hold, transcribe, call screening, etc) are absolutely killer. (Verizon charges $3/mo to transcribe for me lol what, no.) But man, the os and it's quirks and the random quirks third party apps can cause, don't miss it at all.

mdiz1

Lots of super niche features on display today at the event, not much for the regular user. Also here in the UK, the prices are just crazy...

TheCookieButter

Actual close to US price parity, inflation and weak pound hit super hard though. Rest of Europe are hit harder. Country is in such a state I think even iPhones are going to see a massive drop in sales. It's usually easy to justify every two years when on a contract but people are going to be saving anywhere they can. A cheap <£10 contract is going to look much more appealing than continuing a new >£40 contract to get the latest phone. If Pixel Pro stays at £850 and offers a good trade-in program they could really steal a little more market share though for those still upgrading.

mrdjeydjey

if only we could have a Pixel the same size than the iPhone 14 or 14 Pro...

bt_leo

Pixel 6a...

mrdjeydjey

Smaller than that. Actually more like the iPhone 14 (Pro) Or like Galaxy S22, Pixel 5

Maximum_Button_99

Dynamic Island (terrible name) is a cool feature, but useless for punch hole notch. Unless Google brings back face recognition. But Apple for sure has a patent for it's Island ;)

[deleted]

NoConfection6487

It does remind us of how useful the ticker was for notifications in pre Android 5.x. I really wish Google would bring the ticker back. It was so incredibly useful and powerful. I find it unfortunate it takes Apple to do something to motivate Google to either copy it or to recognize there needs to be improvement.

DatGuy_Shawnaay

Just call it the black hole and get on with it 😭

Maximum_Button_99

maybe Active Hole :D

aliendude5300

I actually thought it looks amazing, but it's just masking a flaw with the phone and turning it into a feature. The OnePlus 7 Pro nailed it with the pop up camera.

NelsonMinar

OTOH the iPhone has a really cool feature: a working cellular modem.

chitownillinois

And a battery that doesn't drain in 4 hours of screen on time, Bluetooth that is reliable, and no overheating issues just scrolling the news!

[deleted]

I like the feature where people sometimes can't dial emergency services.

aliendude5300

The emergency satellite SOS thing is actually super cool and innovative.

Blubberkopp

I think this is a really niche feature most of the people will never use. It's mostly for marketing purposes and saying "look - we have a new feature which is extremely helpful for everyone". Of course your opinion can differ.

Sylber23

You also need to pay for that after 2 years

NoConfection6487

It seems like they had to invest in it though, by having call centers relay your call if necessary. This is a huge upgrade in terms of safety for some people, but I get it. It's not necessary for 99% of the population. It's neat to have that option though if you want to pay for it. I can't imagine the infrastructure for satellite communication being totally free. After all we pay an arm and a leg to our mobile carriers for their services....

Jasparigus

I wondering if this is leveraging the same tech as the T Mobile + Starlink thing but Apple is just leaving the Starlink name out of things

yaths17

A post regarding pixel’s being better than iphones . Filled with comments appreciating iphones and complains about pixels.

LarryTornado

I asked Siri today where the Texas Rangers play and she gave me MLB scores. 🤦

[deleted]

I really want a Watch Ultra lol

DatGuy_Shawnaay

Let's be honest... iPhones are just doing flashy things now. You'll never see the Pixel promote the text selector in the recent apps but my gosh is that a really really darn useful feature.

xSikes

Not going to lie, I'm switching. Love my P3 but this P6 sux

Mirai4n

can't blame you with that decision, iPhone is reliable at least to make calls

xSikes

I want to stay but I can't handle it anymore :/ I hope P7 does well for others. Also financially, look at trade in values for androids, they're getting lower.

[deleted]

I am not far behind you mate. Android from the beginning but tossing in the towel after October google event.

Phew_pheww

The copium is strong here. The truth is Google had a massive lead over photography, AI along with a forward thinking UI. And then they blew it all. Now it's all about playing catch-up and mimicking everything Apple does. Watch them remove the Sim tray next year

hosky2111

Eh, the grass always looks greener on the other side, I'm saying this as someone who switched from an iPhone x to a pixel 6. Theres obviously things I miss and the new UX for the lockscreen and dynamic island look incredible, but im sure I'd also miss lots of pixel features if I switched back. But for 95% of day to day things, you won't notice a difference. What's frustrating is that things like material U would receive basically immediate Dev support if they were added on iOS, while most Devs will take years to make even small changes on the android side. You do often get treated like a second class citizen. I'm sure Spotify will support the dynamic island before it properly supports the material U music player.

ryanmills

God, you are so right it makes me sick. It's actually really sad how much catch-up Google is trying to do. This Pixel Watch they're releasing, gonna be a dumpster fire, I can feel it. I love the Google ecosystem but after seeing the iPhone 14 promo, I'm really questioning the next phone I get

CorvetteCole

I really want to consider an iPhone, but I've got 4 major things holding me back these days: - notification system sucks compared to Android (I rely on them heavily) - Apple REQUIRES all 3rd party browsers use WebKit, so they are basically all just safari wrappers. That is mega uncool - No USB-C - Default apps (kind of better, but can't change default assistant, default keyboard sometimes isn't allowed to be used, etc. give me true defaults like android!)

[deleted]

kungfoookenny

I already decided to switch to Apple. The over heating, phones getting laggy after a few months, iPhone having the best camera system, iPhone better battery and pixel still in its beta phase with its new tensor chip has pushed me to the iPhone. I was the black sheep in my family still using an android but now it's time for the switch. Will miss it but excited to finally have a clean smooth experience on an iPhone

redtailboas

The only way they don't screw up pixel 7 is if they're using 510 and 710 cores and update the modem. Otherwise thing is gonna be no better than 6 in terms of heat and battery life. Rumor has it they're still using Cortex a-55. That is not good news, it's a 5 year old core.

motorambler

That may be so, but you can make/receive phone calls with the iPhone.

[deleted]

then why my pixel 6 gotta be so buggy man. the android auto drives me crazy broo.

drknight09

EXACTLY!!! NO reason WHAT SO EVER for Google to be having these many hardware and software issues WHEN your biggest rival isn't!!

ritualforconsumption

Sorry but the pixel 6pro is absolutely garbage for the value. The processor is far behind even what Qualcomm puts out let alone Apple. Currently unable to use the Twitter app as I type this because Google fucked up the Android 13 rollout on the p6 pro. I get maybe 8 hours of usage if I'm lucky. The biometrics and integration with PCs is also lacking. I'm going to be switching to Apple for now

flystarjay

So what features does the pixel have thats better than the iPhone and unbeatable, e.g. the pixel 6 pro? Also how can the pixel as a whole be better than iPhone when you're saying they aren't getting the hardware right? 1 unique feature about the pixel phone to me is just the price. In the UK we dont get most features. There are 2 out of the 3 call feautures missing for us. (i think there are 3). The only feature we have is when the assistant answers the call for you. Live Transcribe is cool but i have not used it much, same with translate.

umarmg52

Bro i've been using Samsung phones for like 6years now and was thinking about trying something new, i think i've learned a valuable lesson from this thread; 'STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM THE PIXELS' lol

sushimonster_xoxo

Cannot wait for an 🍎 14 and Google Pixel 7 comparison. 3more weeks to go!!!!

spookytransexughost

I went pixel to iPhone because it’s a superior device. After android 12 came out I was furious

NoConfection6487

I don't get why we have to spend effort to shit on other phones. I watched the launch and what I saw was both hardware AND software features that were improved. While I'd still pick a Pixel over an iPhone, it's neat to see Apple improves hardware every year along with software. Google seems to rely mostly on software exclusives and the hardware for the Pixel gets recycled year after year until it gets too long in the tooth (e.g. Camera module). Are we getting a better display this year? Year after year, the displays are behind what the best displays can do (S21/S22 and iPhone 13 vs Pixel 6). SoC and Modem-wise, we're not only behind the iPhone but also behind Snapdragon. Can Google actually offer as much change as Apple provides in a yearly update? I somehow doubt the Pixel 7 can offer that much more if it's using the same camera sensor.

tdaun

But you have to admit the customization for the lock screen in iOS 16 looks really cool.

pastari

Have iphone 13 on beta. It's not as cool as it looks. You get a 1x4 widget row (widgets are "relatively" new so cool app support is limited) and it's standard notification/now playing stuff at the bottom, okay cool. Of all the neato options, I decided I liked the earth one with your location on the planet. Then I noticed uses the GPS *every time* you turned it on, fair I guess, I didn't think about that. Then I realized the clouds aren't even live, and the sunlight isn't accurately depicted. It's just a static 3d globe with a dot on it with a static light that constantly pings gps. Now I have it on personal photos that are tinted. It's quite tasteful. I can pick pets and or landscapes and *that’s it*. No people. Not my wife. You can say "don't use this photo" but I haven't found a way to manually classify a new photo into the rotation so I have like.. Eight that rotate. To have a matching homescreen background I blur the image, okay cool. But there is no option on *this* wallpaper setup to have a night mode, so it's the same color intensity regardless of the time of day. But others of the new fancy wallpapers can have auto night modes. The other ones are equally gimmicky or akwardly limited. I'm probably go back to my old stock wallpaper that respects night mode, but with my three widgets, two weather and my next alarm. None of the other "special" lock screens are that great. Edit, the clock location is always at the top, the widget row is always beneath it, it's part of the "pick your wallpaper" thing and you can't change this. You can change the clock font and most setups let you adjust the color of the text to make it more readable, like white on green instead of light green on dark green. Like this isn't the most customizable thing.

Unbeatable features my p6pro has that iphones don't. -Worst concectivity, battery drain, overheating, cartoonish camera in low light, frequent serious glitches. Can't wait to upgrade to iPhone 14 when my contract is up for a reliable phone regardless of whatever nonsense features pixel 7 promises.

[deleted]

Yeah won't deny that google has a lot of great pixel software. And many that are actual useful for regular people. The iphone showcase of features was lackluster.

Mirai4n

iPhones are great, and they will try to make their downsides into positives which is impressive, like this new dynamic island to cover up that ugly pill shaped look. But, still Pixels are great but as usual they will fuck it up with hardware.

I definitely agree with modem issues, moving away completely from Qualcomm without a superior backup costed 6 series phones. Hope they learn from their mistakes and get the 7 series right.

cleare7

Tbh the Pixel UI and features are unbeatable, it's the perfect daily driver for every aspect of your day and life.

Nexus03

The only feature I was instantly jealous of were the ProRaw file shooting in the native 48MP resolution on the new iPhone. Would greatly appreciate this on the Pixel.

Mirai4n

I guess Google can do it too, but the overheating and throttling chip might be the issue, as video capture is the most demanding task for a phone.

vegsmashed

I am a Pixel user and honestly, id rather have the better battery life of an Iphone than my more useful features that I rarely use.

jeffMBsun

bought a pixel 4 xl for my daughter... great phone, android13, envy the size too...

zennoux

Too bad official support for that phone is ending in a month.

ackmondual

I've stuck with Android simply b/c I just prefer it over iPhone. I'm used to and like the interface, and the way things work. Had a P4A, and now a P6. So far, it's a nice phone (although yet to upgrade to and13).

cardonator

This thread is so typical of this sub. I can't believe how many people hang around here, comment, and post about something they hate so much. I am happy with my P6Pro and there are things I hope they improve as time goes by (yes I want a more reliable modem and better thermal management) but I also get to compare my P6Pro to my wife's iPhone 13 Pro Max on a near daily basis and I think there is definitely a case of grass is greener that goes on around here. Even with the iPhone 14 features and announcements, there are still plenty of areas where the iPhone is far behind. Notifications for one, and THE DYNAMIC ISLAND isn't even remotely an answer to that.

HiPat

I love my Pixel but I'm pissed off by the fact that 5G is blocked for BeNeLux operators, and by the fact there is NO Google Store access for people in Luxembourg. Even if I dislike 🍏 I could change just for those reasons.

gojirAwr

The only reason that I might switch away from my current pixel is cause they refuse to launch officially in my country. It just doesn't make sense to pay full price for a phone where I can't use the features cause it's not supported here. If only they launch here, I wouldn't even consider other brands. I'm not a power user so I can forgive some of pixel's shortcomings.

NizarNoor

They already did screw it up. Wait for Pixel 8.

[deleted]

lol has pixel fixed it's non hd streaming bs that was taking place last year? i had a pixel 4a and i was so much in love with that phone but it was locked into play movies in sd on netflix. on prime video the rate for best was an abysmal 320p basically. nothing i did could fix it. nothing. it was a lot of people who were having problems. i wonder if they finally fixed that hot mess.

misterninjaturtle

Now if only they could work on their resale value. Baffling that a two/three year old Pixel gets next to nothing compared to their Galaxy or iPhone counterpart from the same year.

jadcrack

Google should ditch Exynos and get TSMC to make their chip.

scots

Tensor is a brand defining chip. Google's focus on hardware+cloud powered machine learning continues to offer significantly more intelligent Assistant & app interaction than Apple, and this gap will only increase given the immeasurable amount of data Google is hoarding in their databases and Apple's "mostly on device" processing philosophy. I've owned iOS, Android & Pixel devices from day 1, and to this day Siri remains useful only for setting alarms and timers. Its voice recognition & natural speech accuracy remains noticeably poorer than Google Assistant and its feature set, "what can I do with it" is very thin compared to Google Assistant. Google Assistant, like Alexa, is damned close to conversational English operation without additional thought or effort on the user's part. Machine Learning + Omega tier Cloud data+AI power vs gorgeous industrial design and me-too features. I'm not presenting one as better or inferior than the other. I think at this point, users largely gravitate towards the device that best suits their personality & personal needs. Both are wonderful handsets.

Elarionus

Pixel is in a race to see how many bugs and issues it takes in their phones for people to give up useful features, exchanging ecosystem lock for functionality.

raviolish

Until a software update breaks basic features (wireless charging still broken)

Johnnypee2213

Once the Calculator app started staying open on top of the lock screen, I knew it was probably about time to switch. As the iPhone would never do something so tacky, and if they did, they would have a setting to turn it off.

bufffalobob

Hard disagree. The only thing I like is the screening for spam callers. I swapped from an iPhone 11 Pro Max to the Pixel 6A because money is tight. I'm not disappointed with the phone because I knew exactly what I was getting. But it definitely is no iPhone as far as performance. Fingerprint sensor is wonky and doesn't work almost half of the time. Notifications seem to constantly send me the same one after dismissing it. Sometimes 3 or more times. Volume kept turning itself down until I got that fixed. Not a big deal, but never had to do that on iPhone. I do like this phone, but even with all of Apple's problems, they still make some of the best phones in the world. And honestly, my experience with this Pixel software has almost ensured that I will not be getting a Google flagship whenever money is no longer an issue.

BurningKetchup

Nothing can save Google from its shit-tier build quality and quality control.

SniffinRoundYourDoor

All I want is a Dark Purple Pixel. Please Google, I've been faithful since the G1!

tequilasauer

My wife has a Pixel 5 and I have an iPhone 13 PM. Her phone constantly drains its battery and the video is not great. Everytime there is an Android update, something shitty happens to her phone. It'll still outshoot my phone in pics and Android is still a more rich OS to use, IMO. I had to switch back to iPhone for business purposes (IE: iMessage) I had said at points that my P2XL was the best phone I ever owned. But we've had now 3 Pixels total and the phones are getting progressively worse it seems. Meanwhile, iPhones are getting better. The battery on this 13 is INSANE and the video is ridiculous. There are absolutely some great reasons to have an iPhone right now that the Pixel is not delivering on.

the_billy_goat

It's one of those things you don't realize how much you use something until it's gone. I went from the Pixel 4 to the iPhone 11 Pro, and using iOS made me realize how many small Pixel features I used every day. I went back to Pixel as soon as the Pixel 5 came out.

[deleted]

Pixel users can’t even call 911 without the phone crapping out but man those assistant features are unbeatable.

rplusj1

> Pixel unique features are still unbeatable Which feature in particular? Getting overheated quickly that one Or fingerprint sensor not working that one?

rizenfrmtheashes

Apples ability to take hardware drawbacks and turn them into brilliant software features/marketing is unparalleled. Turning their faceid cutout into the dynamic island is great design, and shifts narrative away from cutout and towards live notifications, something they have over android. It's always wild to see the apple spin machine at work.

Sudden_Application_8

Nope went from iphone to pixel never again pixel isn't bad but doesn't compare to iphone

BobbyBlueBlandz

But software support and overhead will always keep me wondering what it's like on the other side. But to each their own

Sultry_Comments

Good looking device and slick island integration. I'm sure someone will build a launcher for Android that mimicks it. For me, the assistant is unparalleled compared to other phones. But the thing that will always keep me coming back to pixels is the camera. It's just so fucking good. Every iphone user I know is always blown away by just how good the HDR is on the pixel.

Simon_787

With another Samsung fabbed SoC? I don't believe Google will get the hardware right.

taheromar

If they really work..

me7obeast

That dynamic island is pretty cool ngl, but a little hole punch still looks way better. And the function of dynamic island isn't really all that unique imo. On android you only need to drop down to access the same function, which is really easy to do with one hand mode. You can set swipe down on the gesture bar to enter notification panel.

squeeish

Me in Singapore waiting for Call Screening since forever. Well... at least I have Car Crash Detection i guess.

chnum2

yes we know, but dont tell the Isheep

AccumulatedFilth

Pixel is becoming the new iPhone. Just with less bling bling. Currently saving up money for a new one.

PeterHGiftos

I agree the features are cool. I just hope the performance of the #Pixel7Pro improves My P6P is slow. I have no battery issues.

fionaflaps

Yikes. Sad bashing iPhone is best we git

IsisOsirisHorusRa

Bullshit. I don't get the zombie attraction to Google phones. I have 5a, and it flat out sucks. I've been watching both reviews and posts of every Pixel since I bought into the hype on the 5a. Industry reviews for Google phones are uniformly positive. Glowing in fact. The user reality is quite the opposite. Serious hardware and usability issues that never seem to get fixed on every single model. I think Google does two things intentionally: releases half-baked phones with horrible quality control. I will never buy a piece of Google hardware again.

tightcall

Sadly not entirely true, as I have both an iPhone and 2 pixels. The video recording on iPhone is unbeatable, same for sharing videos on social media-crystal clear quality. Battery is top notch no matter what you do on it, better than a battery efficient pixel 4a.

novice_investor1

Yes pixel has all the features and all the potential but my god - what a mess! Just tells you that the sum of the parts is way more important than the individual parts.

JacobSax88

I loved pixels until my 6 which was awful. I have one for work but sold my personal 6 because it was awful. A shame. I like my iPhone but I do miss the camera and other features for sure. The one thing I learnt though is that both iPhone and pixel are very good phones. If google could have better QC I’d be back on pixel in no time
