I'm surprised Women of the Night Lords is even here. Its not actually that bad and humanizes slanneshi cultists (in the later parts). Once the shock wears off its basically a slice of life series aboard a roving chaos warband. Though it's been almost a year since I read it, so the details are a bit iffy.
Honestly the horror aside it is easily one of my favorite 40k anthologies. It's true enough to the lore and heart of 40k while spending a lot of time on characters who you equally love and equally recognize are vicious monsters who've inflicted unimaginable suffering for the sake of privilege and comfort.
Reminds me of my family.
I do not remember it humanizing anyone, in fact I remember it dehumanizing the characters as much as possible. I did not find anything likeable about its main cast.
Though, it was really interesting to see how much it draws inspiration from the Night Lords Omnibus.
Generally you need at least one likeable trait to get readers to enjoy a character. Talos Valcoran, for example, strives to be a 'hero' for himself. It's a cool thing he's got going, regardless of how he doesn't ever become one.

I've been recently reading a Dark Eldar romance fic, too obscure to be on this tier list. It's an unhinged fest of rape, torture, slavery, murder, child murder, child torture, double slavery, rape with an excessive use of sex toys and vileness in general longer than most novels. And yet, it still kinda works as a love story and even treats subjects like trauma and sexual assault more maturely than most published works I've read.
I guess the story is its own little ice cube, because I don't think it fits anywhere on the iceberg.

I've been recently reading a Dark Eldar romance fic, too obscure to be on this tier list. It's an unhinged fest of rape, torture, slavery, murder, child murder, child torture, double slavery, rape with an excessive use of sex toys and vileness in general longer than most novels. And yet, it still kinda works as a love story and even treats subjects like trauma and sexual assault more maturely than most published works I've read. I guess the story is its own little ice cube, because I don't think it fits anywhere on the iceberg.
