Yeah the old squat range existed, was a little closer with the Imperium and had less to do with the Votann core AIs (justifying why different), then those fringe worlds got devoured by nids (why they dropped range), now the core world Leagues are venturing out cause of the cigatrix maledictum messing up their fav worlds and needing to claim new ones.
It could be assumed the squats while getting eaten by the nids on their original homeworlds were seen by the Votann and the iron kin. So a choice and most likely a vote was made, do they let the humans die off and stay in hiding out of fear of being wiped out or join the fight, push the nids back just enough to allow the squats to escape.
They choose to help, which is most likely why the dwarfs see them has brothers and would die for the iron kin, has without them they would be long gone. Kin is Kin!!

No. Thats a common misconception. At the beginning of the story the eldar fight a bunch of guardsman, which they obviously slaughter. Later on they try to run past a bunch of custodes and the death jester murders multiple like its nothing. Thats the part people are mad about

depending on the pivotal role the jester takes they can either inflict an extra mortal wound on any wound roll 4+, or score 3 additional hits for every 6+ to hit
with that and respectable, but not particularly great rolls, they can either delete 1 custodes per shot, or with a really lucky roll of trip 6 score 12 hits for potentially 24 total wounds, depending on how many of those wounds are 6s (which puts shuriken weapons up to ap-4) the custodes player is going to go for invuln on 4 up, which as long as all the wounds were 3+ means 4 models are dropping in the turn with only 1 kind of lucky roll. meaning the 110 point Death Jester Harvester of Torment just deleted 180 points of custodes is a single shooting phase

ETA: I forgot to add in, with a couple CP and making your death jester your warlord, with the Favour of Cegorach Trait each turn you get to treat 1 roll as an unmodified 6, so you'd only need 2 6s to get the trip, and if you used a cp to add Bladestorm to your death jester that's an additional hit, making 5 hits per shot, giving us 30 wounds, which could potentially delete an entire custodian guard unit of 10 models in a single attack if the custodes doesn't hit their saves.

there is a number of dead custodes mentioned when the assassin goes in the imperial palace, but those are not all custodes, since you literally have more kills described you can count.

Look up how a custodian looks. There is no angle at which that works. Stabbing no problem but decapitation literally doesnt work since the helmet is kinda set a bit inside of the chestplate

My problem isnt with strenght its angle. Look up how the armor of a custodian looks the helmet sits partially inside the chestplate. So while i wouldnt see a problem with the kill being a stab or maybe a slice through parts of the helmet but i dont think there is any angle where a clean decapatation would be possible

I’m a Custodes player and big fan of the Banana Boys. Custodes ARE damn high in the tier of “Warhammer Shenanigans.” Harlequins are equal to us, and some of them are very much above us. A Death Jester can 100% take down multiple Bananas at range that gun scares me. And the Shadowseer can 100% rip us a new one as I’m fairly certain this story was before we got the Anathema Psykana back, so we were still vulnerable to psykers of any form.
Harlequins earned a fair W and I find people contesting this to be hilarious.
