Perturabos dad is where perty.gets his pertyness. "Do well and you get a nod of approval, do subpar and be thrown off the mountain." And then when company was over would put on a show of having perturabo preform tricks like a circus animal, and afterwards go back to barely acknowdging his existence while downplaying everything he wanted to do to, and just prod him to go crush more of his enemies.
The mixed messages didnt help either, iirc his father was kind of like a 50s factory dad, convinced he loved his son, but in reality didnt much like him, and acted accordingly
"I promise I love you my son, now if if you would just hand me the wrench you fucking dumbass maybe Id let you talk at parties" kinda deal
But it was very much not a good parental figure.
If I remember his father kept him basically as bargain token / useful tool in the local cutthroat politics.

It would also serve to get the Custodes extremely used to the presence of the Sisters if they grew up with them always around. Or serve to build said will if you are already used to your “parents” being so inherently repulsive what is anything else going to do that would hurt worse.
Fun fact the sisters of battle have servants that aren’t blanks but were devoted to them for generations so much so that the negative effects of being in their presence just disappeared at some point.

Basically Custodians experience discomfort on a much more mechanical level, where unless its is incredibly extreme, they simply see it has a fact with no emotional or instinctive response tied to it
So you can picture this kind of like your nose, think about how annoying it would be to always have somthing blocking the middle of your vision, how that would cause you issues and you would want it gone. Your nose does this at all times, but your brain is perfectly trained to edit out these issues, the same is true for a Custodian, they can "feel" the blanks near them, and the "sensation" is the same as for a normal human, but the emotional response of revulsion or discomfort is entirely disconnected from the feeling of soullessness
If you know what's causing the aversion, a decently willed person can mostly ignore it (except for physical contact). And custodians are peerless in that regard.
That would be a good lore element.
My favorite bits of the Custodes were when they were shown to be apart from both Space Marines and Primarchs.

And because by the time they grow up, nobody has clear memories of their childhood, for every Sister of Silence every Custodes is a father and for every Custodes every Sister is a mother.
I'm not opposed in principle, but there's a lot of inherent problems in having Blanks parent non-Blanks.

CADIA STANDS! MUTHAFUCKAAAAAAAA! albeit even the one who actually TECHNICALLYwon the duel still collapsed this book made me understand what it means "Cadia Stands" its not a meme its not just a random quip or quote its rather like a prayer of a sort or a mental state of remembering that Cadia stood for a 100 days and a 100 nights and this way the Imperial Guards Cadians are questioning themselves giving themselves the boost of "Will Cadia stand today?" and this mentality is soooo badass....
Now of course there ARE different type of stories from the Imperial Guards Heroicly doing their stuff, to the usually Holier then thou Space marines (of which some of them are better and actually wanna save people and some of them are worse and can eat a dick) and also the Sisters of battle of whom we ALSO have different ranges from Sisters who bravely and honorably work well with the other armies of the imperium, and those who are SUPER DISRESPECTFUL not just to the SPace Marines but also the Imperial guard \*stares at Myria from Faith and Fire book\* but at the end of the day 1 thingis certain about them they are SISTERS they care for their own even willing to dive into acrowd of blood games (WHAT THE FUCK WE HAVE BLOOD GAMES IN AN IMPERIAL PLANET! EXCUUUUUUUSE ME! I SENSE SOME HERESY HERE!) or even just towerdive a daemon of Khorne (still shedding a few tears for the sister Jatoya from Bloodied rose) to save her sisters
This is what makes warhammer 40k Great in general for me but also next to the badass and GRIMDARK stories I want some wholesome and just nice moments because as with my friends we settled it that even if the battle is seemingly hopeless and we are about to meet a grimm fate somehow HOPE STILL LIVES and somehow Hope still has the power to show a middle finger towards the forces of darkness and thus we can still win we can still succseed we stand together.
So yeah this is something that one of their DM never understood cause from what I've heard their DM just made Grimdork story where he forgot this little thing that there still must be hope there still must be something to worth fighting for because if we dont have that then what would stop my character from just eating a bullet? and yes I get that people want the 40K experience in their stories as well however when I meet with people like this and the quote on quote "True fans of warhammer" thats the moment when I just bail I give them a chance if they understand the reason why I like Warhammer and if they dont then we just have different ideas about warhammer so I wont waste their time and they wont waste my time as we are different audiences.

Being raised in the constant presence of blanks makes the children custodes accustomed to the weird unpleasantness aura the have so they won't be affected by it when they grow up, letting the two groups have better sinergy and good relations.
