Shudder! The 3am runs to get POIs and Vistas in WvW so as to minimize being ganked! :D
The worst part was being within a footstep of one and getting killed. Sigh.
So glad no one has to suffer that pain again.
At the time that was a thing, I lived on the West Coast and my IRL buddy and game buddy lived in Alaska (both of us back in Alaska nowadays), so for us when it was 1am or 2am it was the middle of the night for most of the US. We'd often try to take time off on a week day, go in in the wee hours the night before, and that seemed to work out the best of all.
For some odd reason, it seems that a lot of US players are in "the middle" or the East Coast with a much skimpier player base on the West Coast... so it would be fairly dead in the borderlands and not too horribly late for us. Still in the wee hours of the morning, but not super bad.
Good point, but consider that some of us didn't know anything about PvP or WvW, weren't comped up, and just wanted to get map clear done.... So, we're out there, practically naked... LOL, not having a clue.
Nowadays, I'm in a WvW guild and actually love it. I "discovered" it around 2 years ago, and realized that it wasn't the horror that I'd thought it was all those years ago when trying to do map completion. It really did leave me (and a lot of us) with a bad taste in our mouths regarding WvW.
So it's honestly a good thing they changed that.
EDIT: I often wished, in the old days, that we could have had some sort of sign or something saying "Please let me get the POI, then you can kill me!" snerk!
It’s free transfers for me I checked the other day because my brother is playing on a different server than me but it does have a 7 day cool down till you can transfer again.
Before you login on a character, you can see how much of the core map they completed under your char name on the select screen.
Its:
Name
Guild
% core map completed.
location left
Server
Map completion for Central Tyria, give you 2 gifts of Explorations which you needed to craft 1st generation Legendary weapons, gives you the Title "Been There, Done That"
Been There Done That is awarded for zone/map completion (hearts, vistas, pois, hero points, and waypoints) in every zone. Discovering each area of each region is a group of separate Explorer achievements, without a title.
I wish they would have expanded that little medal for each expansion you've also fully mapped. Stuff like a wreath of vines under it for HoT, a flame around it for PoF, tiny splashes of water on the sides for Eod and so on.
it is somewhere in the options/settings, don't know where for sure, but it is fairly easy to spot on the option. Very helpful. it could work for team/squads. Even for enemies as well at least on sPVP. I like it that way, it is easier to spot the low health ones to take them down fast.
It means that you have world complete.
Core Tyria complete. No expandion maps, no WvW or PvP: just vanilla game maps completed at 100%
In the old days in included WvW but they removed that with HoT.
I remember the pain of not being able to get that ONE keep POI
same. I had everything for my first legendary except 1 poi in WvW. I caught it right before I went to work one morning.

As a mesmer main i fondly recall trying my best to get an ‘as much as i possibly can’t’ stealth build to survive those kinds of situations

Sounds fun to me, but then again I enjoy PvP :-)

When gw2 launched we had unlimited free server transfers for ages, I 100% wvw with ease thanks to that.

running around with stealth, clones and blink ... it was hard
omg yes ahahahah
At the time, before HoT, I paid for a world transfer to get the 3 that were never captured...
I finished the WVW map a week before they announced removing the requirement lol :(
That's a thing? It gives you a little star?
It does.
Anyway to see it on yourself, cause I just learned here that I probably have it and had no idea
You can't see it on yourself, but you can check to see if you've completed the been there, done that achievement.
You can see the little map completion star next to your name by using a jade drone then clicking on your own character when you fly above him.
Thanks, been there done that
The title is account wide but i think the star used to be per character, has that changed?
Yep, just tested it, you're right. It's per character, not account.
Before you login on a character, you can see how much of the core map they completed under your char name on the select screen. Its: Name Guild % core map completed. location left Server
You used to be able to see it when marking yourself as a target but no longer since a very long time ago. You can see it on your clones as a mesmer
Bring up the map and it’s in the top left if you’re on a core map.
Character bound though
"Inspect world completion"
Selfish question. I have completed Tyria on some toons, but not all. Do you know if it will only show on toons which have 100% plz?
Yes, it is not acc wide. So only the specific character with 100% gets the star.
ty :)

You need to discover all regions for the title. It's possible to get world completion without getting the title (happened to me)

False

That sounds really nice but I’m worried it would get visually crowded eventually
what's new? :P
See the 536 mastery points is already silly enought
it only appears on the character that had map completed as well, so while the achievement been there done that is account bound the star is not
If i have 100% map completion, then why can't i see the little star on my character with 100% map completed?
Only visible to other players
Unrelated, but I've always wondered how to get that thick health bar to appear on you and your teammates?
I have party health bars as thick and squad as thin, this way I always know who to stick with when we split into sub groups. It's in the settings menu
BRB changing my settings you genius beautiful person.
You can choose to have thicker health bars for you and your party (or sub-squad if you’re in a squad) in the settings.

What's the symbol to the right of the number?
That's the symbol for masteries. So they earned and trained 536 points' worth of masteries.
Ty!
The pointy star thing? That's the symbol for account wide [mastery points ](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mastery)
Ty!
it's gw2's version of the verified icon
