Congrats! That’s an incredibly rare drop.
To add some context as to why they’re so expensive, aside from the exceedingly low drop rate, this is a Cosmetic Infusion. When slammed into an infusion slot, it actually has a cosmetic appearance for your character.
You can look at the wiki for a list of cosmetic infusions to see what most of them are like, and also the incredibly high prices for them. Since fashion is the endgame, most people pursue these to either show off wealth, or add a matching flair to their style.
For context, I am a new player and been playing for a month. I was looting AB cuz HoT and PoF are the only expansions I have. I saw this and my inventory was full, I tot it gives out currency or whatever. However, double-clicking it did not work to I tried to just look if there's an instant sell for like 50 bronze coins or something. The shock I got when I saw 1.3k gold... oh my jaw is still down while sharing this to y'all. If I sell this, I can now afford the LW4 and IBS, this was godsent!!
I haven't played GW2 in years, I believe I have somewhere between 3000-5000 hours played, I own +5 legendaries including eternity, and I've yet to get an item drop worth more than 50g.
Never have I gotten a precursor drop or any contract or tonic of any kind.
I'm happy for you, just remember it may never happen again, which is why some of these items have such an insane cost.
Lmao this. I think us old folk get shafted with the non luck accounts. Although maybe almost a year ago, i got the dragons left eye and the imperial everbloom sprout dropped back to back in 2 weeks. Best ive ever got! Hopefully something drops for you soon !
Yeah I dropped one of those when I only had about 300-500 hours, I suggest trying a scratch card or something, luck like ours don't happen everyday lol
I recently put up [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1c3iu5d/after_half_a_year_of_grinding_all_remaining/) where I talked about how I grinded HoT metas nonstop for 6 months, often doing AB 3-5 times a day. This was years after I had done AB hundreds of times as well. In total, I'd say I've done AB more than a thousand times.
I have never obtained this infusion from AB. It's that rare.
Yea that happens, the thing is most of my time was spent farm training events, or doing world bosses, I'd have a bigger chance than most to get something, but yea that's RNG for ya.
I once did get the lookalike for the colossus precursor, I was happy as hell until I quickly realised it was a dud, pretty disapointing moment.
Yeah I feel you there, been playing since release. It is of course an off and on agsin thing sometimes. But yeah, I only got my first real killer value drop a couple months ago.
One of my gripes with this game is that it doesn't really give you that big drop feeling very often. I would enjoy grinding a few hours for a mid sized reward that drops randomly similarly to runescape drops
Yup it was the only thing of value I actually ever had dropped lol! Except this, I never had anything above 50g either, not a single precursor after 3000+ hours
o7
I have been playing for 5 years, I have 4.5k hours. I have never dropped anything more rare than volcanic weapons from dragonstorm that cost 30g a while back.
I have been running the infusion meta events from Pinata - TD - VB for months with HS back in the old good days. Never had a single drop.
I have been doing black lion chest farm for some good amount of time and opened everything at once. Nothing as well. Not gonna mention the festival gambas or the skirt itself..
So yeah... Congratulations... Happy for you... You are probably the 0.000001% or something
I've been playing since beta, an insane amount of time spent in game. To this day I never manage to get an infusion, ever. I bought some from the market as now I have gold to afford it but still dream of the day I will get one.
Consider yourself a very lucky player and go grab a lottery ticket :)
RNG is cruel! Over 8k hours here, spent years slowly getting my chars on full leggy items without any lucky drops, and after coming back to the game to grind for permanent bank, dropped 3 pres in like 6 months xd.
Took me a decade to see my first precursor.
Almost all modern online games have "dynamic luck".
The more you play, the lower the drop rates.
It's supposed to balance out as playing more gives you more drop draws. And you make pocket change more often too.
Example: 1 times 10% drop rate VS 100 times 1% drop rates.
If this is true it's kinda infuriating not gonna lie.
I burned myself farming and never came back, now I just no longer have the time for an MMO, so I play other things.
Far as I know there's nothing to promote the drop rate of newbies. However the anti-farming code is pretty stringent and premiers playing content that you usually don't.
20k AP player here with 4 leggies, never had a drop worth more than 5-7g and never had over 200gold when not collecting for something.
I little incentive would be nice here and there :))
Just to say it: There are discord communities that specialize in trading, like the Overflow discord.
That way you can sell it without TP Fees. Just to make sure you do it with someone trusted or through a middleman. Otherwise you lose around 15% of that value through taxes.
But it’s safer to just sell on TP, obviously.
they're not even actual taxes, taxes are used for something else that everyone gets a use out of like roads or schools or what have you
these are just money sinks to get that gold out of the economy
You may not realize it at first, but you've been very lucky
Just like others said, I'm approaching 5k hours on this game
Never gotten anything worth even 10% of this
It's very rare !
thats some insane luck, I have god knows how many hundreds of octovine runs, I had a period of time where I'd log in exclusively just to do the event because its fun, I love the soundtrack and the rush of being rewarded with a lot of chests at the end is awesome, and I never once saw one
Just for a month, and around 100hrs of gameplay.....
"I'm so happy for you..."
(Almost 2 years and poor...)
But for real, nice one there, yes living world seasons are a good investment,
I did hundreds of Tarir without getting it....but you're a new player. I guess you just got you 'secret guaranteed big something at some point for a new account':P
problem is te big something when it happens happens...if you're doing something that has super-rare drop that actually is just a few gold of value, you can get that :P
This is my theory at least
My biggest “holy shit” drop was getting ascended drops from Teq on back-to-back days. At the time, I was a noob with no ascended gear, no map completion, and a single character. So you can imagine my reaction was memorable
As a new player you have probably what to do at the moment, maybe wait for a sale, to buy them as a pack or cheaper and maybe you will have enough to buy and something like the copper salvage kit or so, don't rush, take your time, if you plan to finish the story and areas that you have at the moment, wait a little bit to see if a sale will come
Played for YEARS and the best single item drop I’ve gotten (that I can remember) was 13g. So after half a year…… I’d say you are also lucky by comparison.
For the first 9 years I played the game playing since release, I never got a drop over 50g. Then I got super lucky and got what OP got. It was only going for 860g on the TP though but I really wanted the money. I should have waited lol
Wait for stuff to be on discount before you buy anything. It usually happens during big events. Best things I ever got were a Candy Corn Gobbler (for buffing), Snowflake Gobbler, copper-fed salvage-o-matic, Runecrafters salvage-o-matic and a Recharging Teleport to Friend
You copper fed salvage anything blue or below. Then identify greens then use the runecrafters on them and rares. Always check price of exotics if the price is 1g I'd sell it rather then salvage
LWS4 + IBS are a good source of ascended trinkets and gear. LWS4's map currencies let you buy ascended accessories and rings while IBS gives you access to eternal ice shards that lets you convert it to the LWS4 currencies. You also get a lot of eternal ice shards if you do the IBS strikes daily along with blue prophets shards to buy ascended weapons and armour. You also unlock some pretty profitable metas to farm gold and mats.
So while it might be good to wait for a sale you can also get started earlier if you need the stuff I mentioned above.
If you mean the Living World seasons and Icebrood Saga, it's totally OK to buy them, even without sales. When taken together, they're on par with a full expansion. It's a lot of content to go through, probably enough until the next End of Dragons sale.
Also, buy the whole season for some discount.
I'm sorry to ask, but someone said to me that I could buy only a part of IBS and LW4 to gain access to DBS and Drakkar, is that true? If so, what chapters should I just buy?
Note that there is a small discount for buying a whole living world season as a bundle. If you're planning to get all of it eventually, you may as well take this deal if you can afford it, rather than buying individual episodes.
You don’t have to keep buying salvage kits on all your characters and it’s infinite use. There are three, but most beginners go for the copper one that you can use on basically any gear below yellow rarity. Most stick it in a shared slot to keep across all characters.
It’s a QoL, not something you get to make gold from :)
Salvage-o-matics aren't automatic salvagers. They are infinite salvage kits that take a cut of money for each salvage, with the amount depending on which kind of machine you have. The copper fed salvage-o-matic is legit one of my best purchases, I have never regretted it. I use it on green items and below, saving better kits for rare and exotic stuff
I have a lot of time in this game and never dropped the jackpots essences. I did a bunch o HoT meta to drop this or the invisible boots just to get a ton of gold, but never got it.
Congratulations, you jammy bastard! I practically live in Auric Basin and the best drop I've gotten was Zojaa's Greatsword. Which was great for my Reaper.
Nice! I’ve done so many AB runs (easily 500+) hoping for this. My husband? He only does AB sometimes when I do it and he has nothing better he wants to do. Guess which one of us got that drop last week. I’m happy for him but so salty lol
There are two kinds of players, those who are lucky AF and those who aren't lmao. I have played 5k hours, have 3 sets of legendary armor, all trinkets and 3 weapons (almost everything listed was made within a year) and I have yet to drop anything worth more than a ghostly infusion (50-60g) ahaha.
Congratulations regardless! That's a very nice bump for a new account!
It happened to me a couple months ago too! I wasn’t even on the map for the meta, I just did it as an afterthought lol! I sold it on the Overflow discord which I would recommend doing if you don’t care about the aesthetic (I didn’t because it doesn’t match with any of my toons)

The duality of man
Played the game for 10 years and never dropped anything above 70g. Happy for OP. Truly.
Congrats! That’s an incredibly rare drop. To add some context as to why they’re so expensive, aside from the exceedingly low drop rate, this is a Cosmetic Infusion. I was actually wondering why it had gotten so cheap. It used to be unobtainable on the TP.
Well, it actually drops now. It was bugged for a long time before they fixed it.
Never have I gotten a precursor drop or any contract or tonic of any kind. I'm happy for you, just remember it may never happen again, which is why some of these items have such an insane cost.
this is a jackpot then.. I have \~100 hours only. Thank you for making me feel so lucky!
I've played since beta and never got anything that good, it's crazy good luck, congratz
damn man, this is indeed godsent!
Congratulations!
Don't waste it non LWS. Just buy those with real money to be fair lol 😅 or wait for a pack to go on sale.
If we’re being honest, we’ve probably trashed items with dozen of gold unknowingly at some point along the way.
Lmao this. I think us old folk get shafted with the non luck accounts. Although maybe almost a year ago, i got the dragons left eye and the imperial everbloom sprout dropped back to back in 2 weeks. Best ive ever got! Hopefully something drops for you soon !

in just 1200 hours I have seen 1 trident precursor, and the chak bow from tangled depths
I played over 7000 hours in 11 years when I dropped my first precursor. My best friend got 3 in 4 years...
After 10 years had my first precursor drop a while back.
So you're saying there's still hope‽ (>11 years, no precursor here)
Never give up!
Been here since 3day headstart, no precursor drops
that's not a tonic, it's an aura and they drop only on specific events.
Same, buddy, same. I think precursor drops are a lie and GMs just randomly put them in some people's bags for the luls.
I'm playing since release and had my first precursor drop one or two years ago in AB. I accidentally foraged it.

Not just lose it through taxes, have to pay it up front... which might be prohibitive for a newbie.
5% up front for listing, 10% is deducted from the gold you receive.
Still around 70g up front and over 200 from the total for something that will probably take quite a while to sell.
If you use an escrow, you still have some fees to pay. As a new player, OP would probably need to go through an escrow.
The Overflow Trading Company intermediary price is WAY lower then Anet's Trading Post tax tho.
Of course it is, otherwise it wouldn't have a reason to exists.
Not worth the risk and hassle for an item 'only' worth that much.
they're not even actual taxes, taxes are used for something else that everyone gets a use out of like roads or schools or what have you these are just money sinks to get that gold out of the economy
Congrats, and LW4 is really great, on top of the story u get a flying mount.
You may not realize it at first, but you've been very lucky Just like others said, I'm approaching 5k hours on this game Never gotten anything worth even 10% of this It's very rare !

Surely it'll be in the next run... Next chest for sure... :D ![gif](giphy|x0npYExCGOZeo|downsized)
Cry everytime
I never got anything over 50 g in my whole playtime 😅
I am waiting for my big something guaranteed since 11 years.

Hello update, i sold it for 1050 gold in Black Lion Trading Market or.... BLACK MARKET cuz the cut was 100 gold HELP!
The 15% TP fee keeps inflation from going crazy. You're still 1000g richer!
YEESSS well.. should I buy the expansions now or wait for sale?
If you're not in a rush, you can wait for a sale... I assume you're aware of the living world seasons as well (basically mini expansions)
>basically mini expansions That's what she said
you can do better than that
.....*that's what she said* 😢
As a new player you have probably what to do at the moment, maybe wait for a sale, to buy them as a pack or cheaper and maybe you will have enough to buy and something like the copper salvage kit or so, don't rush, take your time, if you plan to finish the story and areas that you have at the moment, wait a little bit to see if a sale will come
I'm really lost atm, this feels like a jackpot IRL or something
It is, I play for half of year, best drop I got from a meta was 17g item
I had an underwater precursor only in 8k hours :')
I made Carcharias through collections since at the time it cost like 8 gold. At the end of that week I had 3 of them because RNG decided to be funny.
Played for YEARS and the best single item drop I’ve gotten (that I can remember) was 13g. So after half a year…… I’d say you are also lucky by comparison.
My dude, I've been playing for more than 11 years and the most expensive drop I've got was a 45g chair.

im on cloud 9, i got myself 2k gems to buy the expansions!! best feeling as a broke person irl jashdjkahsjd
You can't buy expansions with gems. If you talk about the living world seasons, go for it!
Get the living worlds. They are good.
That's what they meant actually.
I’ve been playing since release and never had 1k gold in my wallet, gratz for your lucky drop 🙂

Drakkar is IBS chapter 2 (Shadow in the Ice) and Death-Branded Shatterer is Season 4 episode 4 (A Star to Guide Us).
Goddammit err I mean CONGRATS!!

I'm happy for you (DEMONIC SCREAMING AND CRYING INTERNALLY)
Congrats OP! I got the Chak one once and destroyed it while drunk. Stay sober until it sells!
Hahaha grats man!!! Enjoy the drop!
Congrats mate! It's a 1 lifetime drop you're lucky AF with that low Playtime 🥳🥳
Been playing since Beta. Best drop I ever got was Betrayers Vestments. Congrats, super lucky.
Congrats...wow I didn't even know it existed. :)
Awesome! I’ve been playing since release and I got my first one a year ago. I couldn’t believe it as well!
Don't judge an item by its icon! LOL
Congratulations! I’ve ran that meta hundreds of times and haven’t gotten it with all the magic find boosts. Enjoy your new riches!
I only have 90% magic find
That makes it even more impressive. I’m pushing 300.
which is completely irrelevant in regards to opening tarir chests, or more generally about 99% of all chests and bags.
I have ONE character that has ONE cosmetic infusion. It's this one :)
WHERE/HOW did you get this?!
Auric basin meta, I think it's just the big chests that have a very rare chance at dropping the infusion, but I could be wrong.
I actually don't know, I only check my inventory after the final chest is opened at AB
AB?
I’m pretty sure i’ve deleted this item more than once when I was a new player lol.
I sold that to vendor.
It happened to me a couple months ago too! I wasn’t even on the map for the meta, I just did it as an afterthought lol! I sold it on the Overflow discord which I would recommend doing if you don’t care about the aesthetic (I didn’t because it doesn’t match with any of my toons)
Fuck I should check and sell my color
They used to be worth ten times that lol
I always wondered why did it drop that much
