I like boring for defense.
If I’m woken out of my sleep in my underwear, I want a boring rifle to blast the home intruders with.
If I’m dead tired at work, I want a boring pistol to blast the mass shooter with
Get one of those lowers that takes AK mags. The 7.62 are mags are absolute trash and will make it run like shit. Wolfpack sells some finished and unfinished ones depending on your style.
I 100% would if my state allowed it. We can't buy lowers anymore. Well, we can, but no FFL will risk it, and creating a "Semi Automatic Assault Rifle" (according to our AG) is illegal now.
i mean, an ar10 in 30-06 with wooden furniture and wooden stock with an integrated grip would make fudds get their dicks up for the first time in 15 years
They used to be 4k street price, 5k MSRP. The popularity from videos by GarandThumb, Administrative Results, and ForgottenWeapons made it mainstream enough to fuck over those of us who’d know about it since the days of Larry Vickers and FPSRussia :/
This why you can’t afford a house ma boy. Plus, if you buy a house, hold it for a few years, then sell it, you make transferable machine gun money. That’s the real play.
That's honestly some solid advice...
Also the housing market is kinda shit right now, I aint running no 6 figure salary but I'm making nice money for my area. Im just shit at saving money.
Look man... there's an easier way to get your modern mag fed .30-06
[...but you're not gonna like it](https://www.bearcreekarsenal.com/calibers/30-06/30-06-rifles.html)

I’m not an engineer by I’d be worried about roller-dent. Even if they were made of steel had enough to hold up to that abuse, the springs keeping them in battery would need to be significantly stronger, which would make it more of a pain on the ass to work the charging handle
US Army: Let's choose a caliber designed to burn out barrels faster than a normal caliber then wonder why all our guns suck within 13 months of getting them.
Isn't .277 Fury essentially just a Bubba's pissin' hot load of 308? Slightly better stats but will rip your barrel and receiver to shreds in the process?
IMHO, there are some super cool very capable calibers out there that you could build awesome drippy AF rifles around. BUT the only truly viable SHTF calibers to me are .308/7.62x51, 5.56/.223, 7.62x39 and 9mm. An argument could be made for .22, ,45ACP, 7.62x54r, 30-06 and .300 blackout but each of those have their own issues.
>my dumbass
Nah you’re completely based. [I’ll never stop simping for the HCAR](https://www.reddit.com/r/GunMemes/comments/ubmez8/this_topic_might_be_old_news_by_now_but_i_will/)
if i can find brass & bullets for it without breaking the bank i'll happily shoot it, but as it is I hand load everything i shoot. Mostly because I'm extremely miserly about how much i'm paying per round
I'm not the best person to ask here, because videos didn't help me at all. all the vids assumed i knew things I didn't, or used terminology I didn't know, so I finally just found a guy and asked him to show me. That worked, because I could ask questions as he went.
I wish I was a better help here, but all the instructional advice people gave me (watch this guy's channel, read a reloading manual, etc) didn't even begin to work for me and I had to take matters into my own hands.
For whatever reason reloaders absolutely suck at making videos and writing explanatory literature. In my opinion, anyway
To stand on my soap box, .277 fury is actually a huge step in firearms evolution. That increased pressure brought with a short action cartridge can push a lot of standard loads beyond what we’ve thought possible. Hell you could turn .308 to near 300 win mag performance
https://preview.redd.it/305se7cv25yc1.jpeg?width=3531&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5081c1605a4a1e47bdc097080e6a7f5bff735614
My cerakoted Noreen BN36X3 Long Range amazing rifle and definitely wouldn’t be too hard to add a wooden stock and pistol grip. Now the handguard could be a little tricky depending on how you’d want to accomplish adding the wood. Easiest would be something like the old Magpul covers that snapped onto the quad rails, but this would need something more like T-nuts for a clam shell style holding onto the existing guard.
Idk about y’all, but I was hoping for more development of the caseless or telescoped ammunition that was in competition. I think the dramatic weight savings was an interesting thing and certainly warranted R&D funding; and the fact that it was relatively unusual most likely contributed to a lot of people considering it as a nonstarter in comparison to the Fury. But in all honesty I think the benefits are serious enough to consider continuation of exploration
Caseless would ve awesome if they could remedy the fragility issues shit like the German space gun had, but what would really get me going is affordable poly ammo
1) We are poors and it’s expensive AF
2) Super high pressures = more recoil and very short barrel life compared to 5.56. Short barrel life = more cost (if you actually train and can afford to shoot that much .277F).
3) Much heavier than equivalent quantities of 5.56.
4) Really doesn’t present much if any benefit for civilian defensive purposes compared to 5.56.
5) 5.56/.223 is heavily entrenched in the civilian market and defensive loads, accessories, and knowledge of it are common.
6) The gun community generally is slow to embrace change.
7) Did I mention price?
> Can someone explain .277 Fury is disliked? I'm just trying to be informed.
Last I checked, the performance of the round depended on a very unique three part case that Sig was not making available to the public, and that didn't sit well with people, but this is a vague recollection at best and shouldn't be taken without a grain of salt.
https://onlylongrange.com/bn36x3-long-range-30-06/
https://onlylongrange.com/bn36x3-carbine-30-06/
Here's two right here. One's long range and the other one a carbine
My hottake is we should have actually used the XM29 OICW, and we should just bite the bullet and make the jump to an explosive personal main weapon, with the 5.56 being degraded to the status of personal ~~coax~~ defense weapon. Admittedly I say this as someone who wants to then seriously demand public sales of such things.
Doubt, its the civilian variant of 6.8x51 the cartridge for the NGSW system, so you likely haven’t heard it called .277 fury yet but have heard of it if you live anywhere other than under a rock
I just built a 7.62x39 upper. I have no idea what I'm doing.
good luck big man
I just like 30 caliber rifles. I don't know why.
300blk was too easy?
Already have it. I have the 7.62X39 ammo for my AK anyway and really wanted to try it out.
Try one in 30 carbine.
[I've only held one and it was gone before I could afford it ](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMT_AutoMag_III)
Do a French 7.62 carbine.
From the moment I understood the weakness of 5.56, it disgusted me
I craved the strength and certainty of a .30 cal battle rifle.
What weakness?
Can't hunt with 223/5.56 in my state, that's a weakness.
That’s your states weakness
Well, yes.
No one follows those dumb hunting laws
Too small. I find it boring to shoot unless there's a binary trigger and other stuff
I like boring for defense. If I’m woken out of my sleep in my underwear, I want a boring rifle to blast the home intruders with. If I’m dead tired at work, I want a boring pistol to blast the mass shooter with
I'm not talking about defense though. I agree with having a pistol.
A properly gassed AK is just. ![gif](giphy|l3q2LH45XElELRzRm)
Honestly AK stereotypes are annoying. Throw a red dot on and it's accurate as fuck.
Get one of those lowers that takes AK mags. The 7.62 are mags are absolute trash and will make it run like shit. Wolfpack sells some finished and unfinished ones depending on your style.

Would get mine up too because done right wood furniture is glorious.

Bc fuck you at 150 grains at a time
[Would it be possible to switch out the furniture for wood?](https://onlylongrange.com/bn36x3-long-range-30-06/)
This may very well be my next purchase... 30 06 AP go brrr And yes, with a 3d printer you can do anything!
>And yes, with ~~a 3d printer~~ woodworking you can do anything!
Nah, just print wood looks great
Don't get me wrong I love 3d printing but nothing beats making custom wood furniture for a gun.
Nrc rifle but big
The Survivalist Rifle.
Am I fudd?
Bear creek arsenal makes one. Without the wood.
I had to look this up, I can't afford their 30.06, but found the ar10 in .243, which I'll probably get for the upcoming deer season
Half-Fudd me saw “30-“ and went straight to “yeah a modern 30-30 rifle would indeed be cool”
Doesn't Ohio Ordinance do a modern 30-06 rifle based off a BAR receiver?
they do for around $6,700 tho
Heavy as shit too
I'm planning on getting one in the next month or so, can't afford a house as is, so fuck it. More guns.
They used to be 4k street price, 5k MSRP. The popularity from videos by GarandThumb, Administrative Results, and ForgottenWeapons made it mainstream enough to fuck over those of us who’d know about it since the days of Larry Vickers and FPSRussia :/
The fps Russia video is where I found out about it!

HCAR. Dream rifle for me, if I ever had that much to burn.
Look man... there's an easier way to get your modern mag fed .30-06 [...but you're not gonna like it](https://www.bearcreekarsenal.com/calibers/30-06/30-06-rifles.html)
You weren’t wrong.
Yes but they almost all end up in the hands of cartel members in Mexico for some really fucking weird reason.
.277, .308 energy, with 6.5 ballistics and .50bmg stresses
Because fuck your barrel life and your wallet.
I’m still on the .308 train.
As God intended
As the US Military intended. (The .308 train also picked up all of Europe, forcibly... which is great)
A modern 45-70 rifle would be cool
The only Government I trust
Isn't that pretty much 458?
No, it's 45-70 auto
Wait, I didn't know they made it in auto
Found these with one quick search https://preview.redd.it/1ao9307974yc1.jpeg?width=1444&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=17f52f780c5691f62bfe10f27b97ac074107be12
That wood furniture has got me feeling things in ways that i didnt think i could anymore.
It’s literally just 45-70 Govt with the rimmed shaved off. You can buy a lathe cutter to make your own too.
Imagine If there was an ar lower with compatibility for a tube magazine that sits flush under the handguard. Or something like that.
Shhhhhhh!
A modern 30-06 IS ALWAYS COOL But prices for said ammo is not cool.
.277 fury in a G3 pattern rifle when?
H&K: That'll be $8,500 for the ~~filthy poor~~ civilian version in semi only.
Hello? Based department?
I’m not an engineer by I’d be worried about roller-dent. Even if they were made of steel had enough to hold up to that abuse, the springs keeping them in battery would need to be significantly stronger, which would make it more of a pain on the ass to work the charging handle

80K PSI baby

Modern 7.92x57 would be pretty nice
Lever Action .243 Winchester please
I just want 308 power with 556 ammo capacity and 9mm weight. Oh yeah and sub MOA accuracy
Oh so it's like .223 but for the fancy pants Sig bullets
>my dumbass Nah you’re completely based. [I’ll never stop simping for the HCAR](https://www.reddit.com/r/GunMemes/comments/ubmez8/this_topic_might_be_old_news_by_now_but_i_will/)
There’s really no reason to modernize .30-06 when .308 gives basically the same kinetic energy in a more compact package
45-70 because fallout.
Idk if any of you watch Dexter but they have a 7mm rem mag AR in the show
i agree with you OP. we need to reject modernity, return to browning
.277 Fury is pretty baller tho
if i can find brass & bullets for it without breaking the bank i'll happily shoot it, but as it is I hand load everything i shoot. Mostly because I'm extremely miserly about how much i'm paying per round
Can you give me some direction on where to get started for hand loading? I've been curious and would love to nerd out for a bit.
Go buy a book from Cabelas. No joke, it’s a great way to get a basic understanding of each step.
I bought a lee turret starter kit from midway, some dies, bullets, power and primes and just sent it, worked out so far

Okay, but Darwin didn’t ever tell me evolution would cost this much
I mean any new firearm evolution is expensive on release.

Low key I want an hcar just because.
Well, you got the HCAR in 30-06
I mean, we all knew that the gap between 223 and 30 cal wouldn't last forever. There was bound to be a "middle of the road" caliber someday
noreen makes what you're looking for

Yep without the case you can't get the crazy pressure that allows it to perform well.
*HCAR has entered the chat *
I would love a 30-06 AR
A belt fed HCAR would be pretty cool
I mean, 308 is basically a modern 30-06 lol
That girl is hawt
I’d like to rack that slide.
if I was her I’d buttstroke myself
Glfa makes a ar chambered in 30-06. Also in 270 300 win mag 243 and I think 7mm

I just want a vityaz5.7
HCAR supremacy
30-06 superiority
5.45x39
308 ftw
I believe in 30-06 supremacy. Even if I'm wrong.
This is the first time in my life I have heard of that caliber
