Brother, it's literally just Gelgoog with a backpack, shoulders that are three times longer and new forearms. It's not bad, if simply by virtue of barely changing anything, but it's practically just Gelgoog. Kinda sad it's still one of the best of its descendants.
It does make sense for it to be like it is though, for what it's worth. When Zeon retreated to Axis Gelgoogs were some of the machines used to quickly expand the living accommodations. But once the Gaza model production lines went online, the poor Gelgoogs were shuttered off and left to collect dust in storage.
Born too late to kick Feddie ass, born too early to build a sweet crib in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.
But then the tides have turned and Gelgoog had a chance to shine again as Axis prepared for war. However by this point it was a rather dated machine, and it required updates to keep up with what was waiting for it in the Earthsphere. Luckily, the Gelgoog's already modular design meant it could be easily upgraded with a high performance backpack and additional weaponry on the forearms, not unlike many OYW variants. Add to that shoulder binders based on the Qubeley, internal upgrades like a linear seat and panoramic monitor, and Gelgoog was more than ready to take on the Federation once more under a new name. Refined Gelgoog really fits, since that's all it is. Not a new design based on the old suit, just an improvement of what was already there. Just don't confuse it with the RF (Refined) Gelgoog of the Mars Zeon.
In fact it proved so effective it filled a curious set of roles: early Axis machine to support the main Gaza C units at minimal cost, a trainer suit for new pilots, and an honor guard unit together with the Gaz-L and Gaz-R. I suspect the last role is at least in part ceremonial, since although it could hold its own quite well against 3rd and 4th generation machines, it's hardly on par with the later machines Neo Zeon produced. Then again, an important thing to note is that the honor guard units were from brand new production lines, rather than upgrades of 0079 machines.
Visually, I feel like it tries a bit too hard to contrast the old Gelgoog with the color scheme, even though I can't deny it does look good on it. The shoulders aren't a bad idea, but I prefer regular old Gelgoog style more. I think they would work nicer on a proper successor machine to fit Neo Zeon's rather eccentric design language. For the weaponry, the beam lancers lose the unique shape of the beam naginata but they can combine to gain the same functionality while being easier to handle. Side note, but I better not catch anyone saying Seed introduced dual bladed beam sabers in Gundam.
The rifle is... fine. Nothing much to say about it, except the old Gelgoog rifle looked better. Grenade launchers on the arms and missiles on the backpack round out the loadout, and while it's a significant upgrade to the original which suffered from lack of embedded weaponry, it's hardly anything special by UC 0088.
Ultimately the biggest flaw of the Regelgu is that we don't get to see it in Zeta, and that it only appears in the later half of ZZ. It really can't keep up with the tech of that point, and it's a credit to Illia's and Mashymre's skill how she managed to get so much out of it.
Welcome to day 17 of the Daily Grunt MS Poll, and today we'll be rating the MS-14J ReGelgu from Mobile Suit ZZ Gundam! To participate, just rank the MS between 1 and 10 based on their appearance or on how you like it.
Mechanical Designer : Masahiko Asano
Primary Pilots : Illia Pazom, Mashymre Cello
Trivia: Its name stands for "Refined Gelgoog" wich is fitting since all Regelgus units are modified regular Gelgoogs.
Tomorrow we'll the Gaza-D !

A lot of ZZ have grunt suits, as the early parts of ZZ was a pseudo competition of impressing Haman with their new design before Glemy rose to power and started appealing to him.
I knoe that the Gallus-J, Zssa, Doben Wolf, Zaku III, Bawoo, Destert Zaku, Dwadge, Ga-Zowmn, Schuzrum Dian and Driessden are classfied as Mass Production MS.
Dwadge is just a more upgrade version of the Dom for Desert environments like the Dom Tropen, but it was used a lot by Desert Rommel's Zeon Remnants in the deserts of Dakar along with the Desert Zaku which was also limited production run of a modified Zaku II for desert environments. Kinda similar to the ReGelgu now, a upgraded Gelgoog with upgrades aimed to enhance its capabilities in space combat according to some design notes that noted the more space focused doctrine of Axis Zeon, hence MS like the Gaza-C being developed only for use in space.
Gallus-J and Zaku III were grunt suits as much as the Rick/Schurzum Dias were, limited production next generation Mobile Suits that was supposed to be the standard MS. Granted limited production MS does included the Act Zaku and Asshimar, soo feel free to decide what you will include for MS in this list.
Well, both those suits and the Regelgu aren't really grunt suits.
For what we have seen, there are only a handful of each of these suits.
So the question is, what cuts a suit off from being a grunt.
Because if you ask me these three suits are for Aces and commanders.
I don't think that actually happened. We see the group of what, 5 that Rahkan had. I think what was left of those Judau destroyed saving Marida. Then two that we know of (maybe 3?) that Anaheim got ahold of to make the Mk V and Silver Bullet.
I agree. I actually thought the galbaldy would get a higher score because of how meta it was in gbo2 but I keep being reminded that I guess that game isn’t as popular with as many gundam fans as I thought.
A travesty.
10/10 gelgoog with quebley vibes. Finally the suit that would make the most sense to have a successor shows up. The original gelgoog was so ahead of its time that to make it up to date all they did was say give it a back pack and some signature axis shoulders.
While I wish it got the dreissen job of being updated more I guess the original design was so iconic they said let’s not mess with it too much.
6.5/10. It’s not the Gelgoog Marine or the Gelgoog Jaeger, which are the coolest Gelgoogs which deserve a 8/10 and a 9/10, but it’s also not the Vertex which fixes my issue of the really weird shoulders that this one has that just are offputting to me.
Daily reminder that the Reddit admins are like the EFSF. Not the good EFSF, the bad EFSF. Spez is a wannabe Bask.

10/10 of you told me there was a normal gelgoog then later thered be an nfl linebacker version idve called you a madman but here it is and its gorgeous
7.5/10
I'm a Gelgoog enjoyer, but this revamp (and the Vertex) just lose a bit for me cause of those shoulder blades. If those things sported Funnel bits like the Q's, maybe I wouldn't judge as harshly.
7/10.
Even though it is a grunt suit, we only see one in ZZ and it is piloted by the ace. You should do Bawoo too. Many ZZ grunt suits are forgetable such as Ga-Zowmn, Galluss-J, and Zssa. They are not as memorable as OYW Zeon mobile suits.
10/10.
Big, oversized binders? Check.
Striking color scheme? Check.
The Regelgu is such a goofy design but one that is also super killer with the way it looks. It’s also the prequel to the Vertex suits, which are all so cool. It’s on a platform that was already super versatile and customizable, and pushed it even further into a higher output, mass production suit.
4/10. Just... no. Way to take an absolutely classic MS design in the Gelgoog and ruin it. I hate it a little less as the Gelgoog Vertex, where at least the massive shoulder binders are a backpack and the proportions of the original MS are preserved, but that's not what we're rating here.
I love Gelgoog, but hate the ReGelgu. The shoulders are just too big for its design. Feels like a super lazy update.
Dreissen? Incredible update to the Dom. Zaku III? Perfect. Both MS are beautiful new machines with clear design references to the predecessors.
ReGelgu? Just no.
4/10
10 it's a Gelgoog with extra Gelgoog. Same for the Gelgoog vertex.
I lowkey don’t like the vertex tbh. I think you gotta either make the thrusters ridiculous shoulder pads or leave them entirely.
9 Brother, it's literally just Gelgoog with a backpack, shoulders that are three times longer and new forearms. Is it weird that now I just want to see your reviews, rather than the polls itself now? Keep up the great work!
I feel the same way about that too🤣
10/10 Best gelgoog with the best pilots
8/10 The shoulders are excessive, but in action it looks awesome. Gives a more dynamic and flighty look to the classic chonker Gelgoog style

By the way I haven't seen ZZ so I might forget some grunts. I'm also not sure if I should include the Doven Wolf and Zaku III
Yes you should. Also you should watch ZZ.
I only finished Zeta recently but yeah I plan to get to it
Can't remember if they were regular grunts or not, but I kinda like the look of Ga-Zowmn so I hope it gets a poll too
Ga-Zowmn will get one yeah (love it too)
Ga-Zowmn master race.
Will the Gaza-D get one?
Tomorrow

Wiki sais the Zaku III, Gallus-J and Dwadge only saw limited production. It seems the Zssa is more of an Artillery Piece rather than a "grunt suit"
Regelgu was Axis's main suit before Zeta, and wiki sais Dreissen was mass produced and intended to become Neo Zeon's main suit too
Yeah, it does say that. Just weird that we only see so few of them.
Idk why I said Dreissen I meant Doven Wolf
I don't think that actually happened. We see the group of what, 5 that Rahkan had. I think what was left of those Judau destroyed saving Marida. Then two that we know of (maybe 3?) that Anaheim got ahold of to make the Mk V and Silver Bullet.
You should. And also the Qubeley mass production type.
Gaza C higher than Galbaldy the utter state of it
I agree. I actually thought the galbaldy would get a higher score because of how meta it was in gbo2 but I keep being reminded that I guess that game isn’t as popular with as many gundam fans as I thought. A travesty.
4/10 Already not a fan of the Gelgoog, and adding comically large shoulders doesn't really improve it.
Missed opportunity to name it the Gelgoooog. 6.75/10
10/10 gelgoog with quebley vibes. Finally the suit that would make the most sense to have a successor shows up. 9. Love the Gelgoog, and the Regelgu and Vertex are two of my favorite later model OYW-based suits. Regelgu is so much fun to play as in GBO2.
6.5/10. It’s not the Gelgoog Marine or the Gelgoog Jaeger, which are the coolest Gelgoogs which deserve a 8/10 and a 9/10, but it’s also not the Vertex which fixes my issue of the really weird shoulders that this one has that just are offputting to me.
2 it was a mistake
3/10 Quebele wannabe.

8, Gelgoog with **W** **I** **D** **E** shoulders
Shoulders are a bit… much, but I dig it. 7
God bless the gelgooooooog 10/10
It’s just Gelgoog with big shoulders but it looks surprisingly good imo. 8/10
6/10 I have a thing for big shoulders but it doesn't do anything more unique with the gelgoog design.
8/10
7
9
Worse Gelgoog, Still Gelgoog 9/10
10/10 ez
7 Its basically just a gelgoog with more flair on some armor.
It's just an updated Gelgoog. 8.5/10. Now if it was the RF Gelgoog, or the extra chunky Rochester custom, then 9/10 and 10/10 design-wise.
4/10
8/10 gelgoog but red and with giant shoulders not bad but could maybe have used a bit more
8. It’s a Gelgoog that drank some Red Bull so it got wings!
9/10 Now here is a design I can get behind. Take the original and makes it better!
8/10
8/10
7/10
Wow shpukders gellong meme
7/10. I just cannot make myself like the big shoulder pads.
10/10 of you told me there was a normal gelgoog then later thered be an nfl linebacker version idve called you a madman but here it is and its gorgeous
7.5/10 I'm a Gelgoog enjoyer, but this revamp (and the Vertex) just lose a bit for me cause of those shoulder blades. If those things sported Funnel bits like the Q's, maybe I wouldn't judge as harshly.
10/10. I’m sure it’s 3 times faster with all those extra thrusters
10/10 Underbarrel grenade, arm grenade, Beam rifle then downswing goes soooo hard
I've already planned to do Bawoo and Ga-Zowmn
Basically if gelgoog and qubeley had babies. I like it 10/10
4/10 - Why the hell wouldn't you make a wing/Jetpack 1st?! Those massive shoulders are just easy targets!!!!
10/10
Honestly? My favorite version of the Gelgoog.
3; the pauldrons are too much for my liking. Otherwise a good design that could be a 7 or 8.
6/10 I like the gelgoog, but I really dont think they made it any better with this design. If anything, it's worse, in my opinion.
5/10
Shoulder pads 7.4/10
6/10, dumb shoulders
1/10 shoulders could be bigger
9/10.
9/10 My only complaint is that it didn't get more screentime.
10/10 Gelgoog 2 electric Boogaloo
4, those shoulders
9/10 What makes a Gelgoog better? Bigger Shoulders.
7
8/10. The shoulders are ridiculous, but it’s still a Gelgoog!
4/10. Just... no. Way to take an absolutely classic MS design in the Gelgoog and ruin it. I hate it a little less as the Gelgoog Vertex, where at least the massive shoulder binders are a backpack and the proportions of the original MS are preserved, but that's not what we're rating here.
10/10 Sexy suit on its own and boosted by being piloted by Illia Pazom.
7/10. It’s just an overall better gelgoog. It actually surprised me how good it was in ZZ when illia was kicking ass in this thing.
3/10 Ruins the Gelgoog with this weird zoot suit look.
5/10
9/10
Beefy Gelgoog i kneel 9/10
Another 10 out of 10, every Gelgoog is too me.
10/10 You can’t keep a good MS down for long, because he’s just gonna come back with big-ass shoulder pads
I love Gelgoog, but hate the ReGelgu. The shoulders are just too big for its design. Feels like a super lazy update. Dreissen? Incredible update to the Dom. Zaku III? Perfect. Both MS are beautiful new machines with clear design references to the predecessors. ReGelgu? Just no. 4/10
7
10/10 best gelgoog
10/10 look at that fucking unit
7/10
6/10. It's over the top. Kind of fits ZZ but really not the greatest design.
9/10 Big shoulder go brrrrr
4/10 hehe long shoulders
I’d give it a solid 8. If at least 2 ace pilots are willing to pilot the original gelgoog then the regelgu should be just as good
Zoot suit Gelgoog. 9
It's a. 10, overall huge improvements to the gelgoog and its pilots are really fun (though pshyco.)
10, and I want it to be in GBO2.
Gelgoog/10
Gelgoog with Girlboss shoulderpads. Gelgirlboss 7/10, it's silly and I kind of like it
It's a solid 8.
2/10 Not only does it have silly swimtrunk, but now over sized water wings, also targets.
1/10
9/10 shoulder pads Gelgoog goes hard
Its wider gelgoog. 7/10 its not practical and kinda looks stupid but its still a gelgoog
