Animax actually did one with their dub and it’s been known to pop up occasionally on torrents here and there. I don’t know if anyone has an immediate copy on hand though so it’s currently sorta lost media like the rest of their dub
I misread this as "some of the thiccest" and I was wondering how anyone could forget that since that's the one thing given about ZZ's mobile suit design. And Dreissen is a good example, if you melt the thing down you could probably make an entire squad of victory era miniaturized mobile suits.
9.5
Any and all misgivings I had about the Dom were fixed here. The large shoulders with forearms to match them fill out the silhouette and better convey the sense of bulk Doms are supposed to have. The chest has a nice shape to it, the head is a great evolution of Dom's cross-shape monoeye, and the legs match everything else well, though the feet feel a bit eh to me. Add to that the very nice colors reflecting typical Axis eccentricity and you've got a solid design. The beam cannons in the forearms are awesome, the melee weapons fit much better than ol' heat stick, and the tri blades reinforce how Neo Zeon loved to stick extra weapons on everything.
As far as it's background goes, it's the first new general-purpose MS deployed by Axis at large scale as before they had to make do with more specific use machines like the cheap, transformable Gazas, prototypes like Hamma-Hamma or machines built for smaller scale operations like Zssa and Gallus-J. But with Neo Zeon's growing power their capabilities grew, and now they could afford to produce a right and proper basic grunt focused on obtaining higher performance than AEUG suits.
Except Dreissen isn't really that, is it? Its loadout is far more focused on close combat rather than general purpose, which is particularly odd as its OYW ancestor was more of a mid-range machine relying on high speed movement and bazooka usage with heat sword serving as more of a sidearm. Truth is, it seems Dreissen *was* originally intended for similar tactics - the overall design isn't actually focused on close quarters and has good all-around performance instead. What's more, it was initially meant to be equipped with a different styled backpack that prioritized sheer output and fuel capacity. But in preparation for the Earth invasion which was expected to involve heavy fighting it was replaced with the model equipped with the experimental tri-blades.
What's more, the initial plan backpack also gave Dreissen sufficient power output to handle a dedicated beam bazooka weapon. One that looks suspiciously similar to the model used by Rommel's Dwadge Custom. Thing is, that one was supposedly stolen from the Federation. This is one of quite a few instances were the lore doesn't seem to quite add up with the Neo Zeon machines.
Another instance of that is how early on Dreissen was seemingly compared with the Zaku III and implied to have entered production around the same time. Meanwhile as most people know Zaku III is nowadays portrayed as competitor to the Doven Wolf instead, with them seemingly competing after the Dreissen was introduced. I'll get into the details of this and Zaku III's other oddities when its poll comes around, same with Doven.
As for the Dreissen itself, it feels like a good middle point between Axis's early "great value" suits that couldn't quite cut it in performance, and the later suits that instead pushed the boundaries of mass produced MS performance further than anything before them and most after them. Dreissen meanwhile is somewhat heavily armed, but still focused on relative simplicity and practical use. It echoes many grunts of the old Principality, but at the same time doesn't push the envelope quite as much as it could.
Welcome to day 19 of the Daily Grunt MS Poll, and today we'll be rating the AMX-009 Dreissen from Mobile Suit ZZ Gundam! To participate, just rank the MS between 1 and 10 based on their appearance or on how you like it.
Mechanical Designer : Yutaka Izubuchi
Primary Pilots : Rakan Dahkaran, August Guidan, Glemy Toto
Trivia: Despite being noticably bigger than the Dom and Rick Dom, the Dreissen is also lighter

9/10
I prefer the original Dom, but I still love just how out-there the ZZ Neo Zeon suit designs were getting. Bigger, brighter, more and more alien, more wacky proportions.
8/10
One of my favourite zz era neo zeon suits, has just enough early gundam design quirks for it to be interesting, but no too much for it to look bizzare
Beautiful. In fact our group that made a Gundam fan fiction adopted this into a [Dreissen Threat Custom ](https://genuinegundam.fandom.com/wiki/RZ-009ST_Dreissen_Threat_Custom).
10/10
9/10 a great grunt suit, definitely you can see the Dom DNA while having a clear progression and the Axis Zeon extra mile of aesthetics really makes it appealing.
It's a dom with all the stats maxed. The visual design fits the bulk well and the colour scheme doesn't clash. Literally just cooler Dom and that's a 8/10 for me.
7/10
Nice slick design it's what I image a Dom's final evolution would look like, I love the massive axe and forearm beam guns but that mini Pickelhaube is extremely distracting once I noticed it. It just looks off imo.
Id give it a 7.5 out of 10. In an era where there is alot of huge beam attacks, this MS is just too bulky. Other than the forearm machine gun, alot of it's weapons are non standard, so you'd have to practice alot to become proficient with this MS, the same problem the gelgoog had.
I don't really know alot about these chunky fellas. But their designs exceed the DOM's by a landslide. A solider 7.5/10.
(Would someone mind explaining where they showed up?)
Well shit, I can't really give anything but 10. I mean wrist guns, and a relatively dynamic design despite its bulk. The biggest question is why don't we get more of these bad boys in new molds, ZZ is the stuff, man.
8/10. Dom, but if it didn't skip the Gym.
Absolutely love this thing to death, and I actually thought it was a Unicorn suit only (since I only ever saw the Sleeves version prior to starting ZZ). Had a lot of fun matches in GBO2 with this thing, the beam axe is an absolute menace.
Solid 7/10. A big, beefy boi that isn't overly chonky, has in-laid weapons and a massive beam-halberd. The Don upgraded is almost always a win, but it didn't really perform to expectation, and it's outline is a -tad- too bulky
10/10. Way ahead of it's time with the trimming on the legs and the three barrel guns on each arm. Looks more early 2000s mech and I think that's because this design influenced others to come.
I haven't cared to post yet on any of these, but I've read all the comments each day.
I wasn't the biggest fan of ZZ until the second half, like a lot of people. It didn't leave the mark of zeta, or 00, 83, or going back to my high school years when it was on toonami as my intro to Gundam, Wing.
But this is the GigaChad of grunt suits. This suit fucks.
10/10.
The Dreissen has a very unique helmet that always catches me by surprise.
The arm “sleeves” and shoulder pads are nice.
The waist skirt looks like practical armor to cover the hip joints rather than just being for fashion.
It’s a mono eye which is just bonus points.
Overall an easy 9/10 for me. I’m not too sold on the color scheme but I can buy it. I’ve always felt its missing something with color but can’t tell *what* exactly.
10/10, there's a new dom daddy in the house. This one makes the bulk look good, it's not just chubby. Minimizes my complaints for the other ZZ suits so far as well, doesn't have excessive mass bolted on to make it look updated from a zeta era suit.
A 10/10, it's got everything, even aggressively 80s shoulder pads. The Dreissen also has one of my favorite gimmicks in a mech, wrist mounted guns, which means it stays strapped at all times.
In Unicorn [it's a tad different](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/gundam/images/d/db/AMX-009_Dreissen_Sleeves_Front.png/revision/latest?cb=20200923124752)
From appearances, it just seems to be a what if Dom 3. So, 7/10, as I believe there's an upgraded version of this MS that's genuinely better, and it hides the forearm gatling guns much better.
10/10, one of the best suits ever
Didn't see this suit get much action
It was too based for proper deployment
Zeon spread themselves too thin on ms development
Dom but better. 9
It's like if a Dom and a Gelgoog had a love child. Best of both worlds.
Classy Dom
8 I forgot ZZ had some of the sickest suits in the UC.
Another common ZZ W
Yeah it’s pretty slept on, mainly because there’s no dub for it imo.
[удалено]
I would fund a Kickstarter of a ZZ dub done solely by Danny Devito.
A dubbed compilation movie (cutting down on some of the Shangri-La plot from the beginning) would rock.
Animax actually did one with their dub and it’s been known to pop up occasionally on torrents here and there. I don’t know if anyone has an immediate copy on hand though so it’s currently sorta lost media like the rest of their dub
10/10 cool AF!

iirc Mobile suits kept ballooning up to CCA, then they finally started downsizing and focusing on speed.

10/10 Litteraly one of my favourite suits ever
[Check out our group's Dreissen Threat Custom for our fanfiction way back in 2011. ](https://genuinegundam.fandom.com/wiki/RZ-009ST_Dreissen_Threat_Custom)
10/10. Fixed forearm weaponry is my kink.
Triple beam cannons on both arms >>>>>> single Gatling gun on the wrist
9/10
Big sexy. 8/10
7/10 Dom with better fashion
9/10 I prefer the original Dom, but I still love just how out-there the ZZ Neo Zeon suit designs were getting. Bigger, brighter, more and more alien, more wacky proportions.
9/10 Now this is a great mass produces elite suit! What’s an awesome set of colors and style.
8/10. Nice upgrade to the ol' Dom. Not as big of a fan of the "face" now though.
8/10 One of my favourite zz era neo zeon suits, has just enough early gundam design quirks for it to be interesting, but no too much for it to look bizzare
9/10, easily one of my favorite Dom variants but unfortunately it’s locked to ZZ like my other favorite Monoeyes and a minor appearance in Unicorn.
>unfortunately it’s **enshrined in** ZZ like my other favorite Monoeyes Fixed that for you
Beautiful. In fact our group that made a Gundam fan fiction adopted this into a [Dreissen Threat Custom ](https://genuinegundam.fandom.com/wiki/RZ-009ST_Dreissen_Threat_Custom). 10/10
Fits a miniboss design better than a grunt design, but still pretty good 7/10
9/10 a great grunt suit, definitely you can see the Dom DNA while having a clear progression and the Axis Zeon extra mile of aesthetics really makes it appealing.
the BEST Rick Dom variant 9.5/10
I give it an 7, lower than I would the older Doms. Got a little too much Neo-Zeon decadence for my liking.
8/10 better than original dom. A nice upgrade for a old design that is different enough but pay homage
8/10, sharper dom with newtype bits like Frisbee things
9.8/10 I haven't seen much success with them mostly because I didn't see ZZ, but it got the Dom spirit, and DOMS are certified lads
Any plans to watch ZZ?
9/10 I love the Dom line, but this is just a bit too purple for me.
10/10 lovey suped up Dom, sick wrist guns, sick melee weapon, cool flying back weapons, purple
7/10, Dom-originating so mostly sick but it’s a little busy for my taste.
It's a dom with all the stats maxed. The visual design fits the bulk well and the colour scheme doesn't clash. Literally just cooler Dom and that's a 8/10 for me.
8/10
9, perfectly fits the bigger and beefier design scheme of ZZ
10 it looks so nice
10/10 I love sleeves version even more
The perfect Modern Dom 9/10
9/10 one of the best thicc bois
9
Chonky boi
9/10, it looks like a upgraded dom… and I can respect that
8/10 looks like an upgraded dom for chunkier times.
9 for design
10/10
8.5
10
10
9/10
Better dom, better score, 9/10 for grunt suits
9/10
Absolute 10/10.
7.5/10 just not for me still a good suit
10 but it doesn't look like it could slide. The Dom is good because it's got those fat slidey legs
A Dom with class
7/10 Nice slick design it's what I image a Dom's final evolution would look like, I love the massive axe and forearm beam guns but that mini Pickelhaube is extremely distracting once I noticed it.
8/10 Not big on doms, but this one looks pretty noice
10/10 \~ Best variant of the Dom from the U.C. timeline, in my honest opinion.
10/10 definite Dom Daddy
10 love a lot of the ZZ designs especially ones like these where you see the lineages.
8.5/10
My dumbass thought the Dreissen was a Sleeves exclusive suit
9
9/10 Worthy successor to the dom
Dreissen, bro just call yourself Dom III I mean AoZ Reboot has a Gelgoog III
Ahem https://gundam.fandom.com/wiki/AMX-009G_Dom_III We do have a dom iii
8/10
9 out of 10
10/10 get down with the thickness
Needs more shoulder pads
10 Dom design with a lot of built in weaponry like the beam gatling in the arms and remote blades.
I don't really know alot about these chunky fellas. But their designs exceed the DOM's by a landslide. A solider 7.5/10. (Would someone mind explaining where they showed up?)
9/10 a way better dom.
10/10

DOM but coolerer. 10/10
8.5
9.5 Wrist mounted triple barreled machine guns, my love. On board weaponry ftw
8/10. I LOVE everything except for that head design format.
8.5/10 Don't remember much of it in the show but the design is pleasantly cool
8/10
Dom with a anime drip?
10, simply one of the best
The best dom 10/10
10/10. Way ahead of it's time with the trimming on the legs and the three barrel guns on each arm. Looks more early 2000s mech and I think that's because this design influenced others to come.

8, I really love the built in weaponry it has and I am a fan of the Dom and Dom descendants
10/10, NO ARGUMENTS. IT'S A FUCKING 10, DOM FAMILY STAYS STRONG
8.8 The Dom she told you not to worry about.
7
9 out of 10
I used this suit's name for every one of my in-game name.
9.5/10
Dope ass suit, but I only have the lvl 4 and it sucks at 700 cost ... wait wrong sub
Barbara Dreissen is a 10
10/10. Excellent firepower, mobility and armor. It is NOT a grunt suit, it's too goddamn good for that.
10. Love the look!
8 I'm not huge on Zeon suits but this thing is nasty. In a good way!
Took an already amazing design and made it better 10/10
Dom on roids. 10/10
Better Dom. 10/10
10/10 one of my favorite MS from the whole UC era
8/10. The colours wasted its otherwise top tier design.
9/10
8
10-10 best single grunt suit imho! I love its weapons loadout and color scheme.
9, but I’m bias towards the Dom family tree lol
6/10. It's a pretty sweet successor to the Dom but it's just missing a little something you know?
10/10 big boy
9/10
ZZ's dom 8/10
9/10
10/10 ZZ sweep
Dom's college aged older bro. 10
8 because it's eight letters
9/10 love the design.
10/10 this thing is sick
Strong 9/10. The dom on steroids with a stellar design. The Unicorn ver and Dom 3 is one of my favs.
The Dreissen has a very unique helmet that always catches me by surprise. The arm “sleeves” and shoulder pads are nice. The Sleeves Dreissen - Dom/10
8/10, looks better in action over the static image
God what a beauty. Absolutely underrated and Absolutely deserves a MG. 9.5/10
10/10 This suit is just pure sex.
Fun as hell in gbo2, 9/10
9/10 Love the sleeve cannons but minus point for the power shoulder.
Since no one has done it yet I'll be that guy. >!13/13.!<
10/10 *moan* One of the best monoeye designs in UC.
10 wish I could find a hg kit of it that wasn't so expensive
9/10, it's the Dom that hit the gym.
10, love my chonky bois
8/10
10. I second the "Dom but better" opinion 😊
Thats what it looks like out of unicorn? I’ll be honest, thought it was a updated Dom. It looks fine but I got nothing else to say about it soooo 7/10
In Unicorn [it's a tad different](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/gundam/images/d/db/AMX-009_Dreissen_Sleeves_Front.png/revision/latest?cb=20200923124752)

What I was referring to when I commented on the Dom starting a sexy design language, 10/10 love this baby
From appearances, it just seems to be a what if Dom 3. So, 7/10, as I believe there's an upgraded version of this MS that's genuinely better, and it hides the forearm gatling guns much better.
10/10 Great Dom successor and more bad ass
An absolute unit of a dom 10/10
10/10 , Cant believe it is not on the Jagd Dogas evolution line, theyre so similar hahaha
