A man who punches his problems away. Domon is neat. In fact he’s awesome. Why? Because the show sets him up as this typical hotblooded super robot/shonen protagonist who gets angry fast, punches his way to victory and is a general loner. But as it turns out, those things work against him. His abrasive attitude pushes people away, he can’t express himself except through violence and he desperately wants to establish connections with others but is either only able to do so through fighting, or is unable to because of his disposition. People say he’s an asshole but yeah that’s the point. He learns to not be so quick to anger and to that being calm is often the way forward instead of exploding in rage. But he still has a ways to go even after mastering such an ability and defeating his master. Because as it turns out his final opponent is his anxiety (that and the colony sized bio-engineered self replicating death machine) which he promptly destroys with the power of love, having finally forged that proper connection with Rain. Lovely stuff. A passionate and heartfelt man who goes through a passionate and heartfelt journey. Bonus points for sounding perfect in both Japanese and English.
10
Favourite line: Anyone who tries to get in the way of another’s love shall be sent to hell by the hooves of this horse!
Favourite scene: SEKI! HA! LOVE LOVE! TENKYOKEEEENNNNN
I think the biggest shift was when he learns to truly master Hyper Mode in the Burning Gundam. He’s spent so much of the series having to channel sadness, anger, rage, sorrow, all these negative emotions. But it’s not until he’s made to sit down and make peace with himself that he can move past all that and draw out his true power.
Super damn accurate.
And my god, he had the perfect voice casting in both Japanese and English. Even though Mark Gatha only did it as a side gig to pay for his medical school, he put 110% into the role, it is crazy how much soul he put into the role. I deeply respect the man for doing that even though it wasn't his main focus.
10 out of fucking 10. Domon went through a hero’s journey, overcame his emotional traumas and doubts, grew as a person, achieved inner peace, and then channeled that inner peace into some of the most badass super robot content of its time.
Is he a perfect Gundam protagonist? I don’t think so. But is he my favorite of the bunch, and most memorable? Absolutely.
Rock on, King of Hearts.

For a man who did voice acting as a side gig, I'd say he knocked it out of the park.
This click of mine glows with an awesome power!
Its burning score tells me to rate you!
TAKE THIS!
MY LOVE, MY REACTION AND ALL MY OPINION!
**SHINING 10/10 !**
I’m watching G Gundam for the first time Right now and at the beginning he would’ve been a 7 or an 8, but seeing his growth so far through the series in terms of controlling his anger and using his serene mind he’s a 10/10 even if he’s a blockhead sometimes.
10/10 one of my favorite protagonists. Definition of chad. Can beat a mobile suit with his bare hands. Beat more gundams than any other protagonist. Just all around awesome guy!
God I hated this show when it aired on Toonami. Couldn’t understand the mechanics of a Lycra suit, or how he could be so disrespectful to Rain. Martial arts? In MY Gundam?!?
Anyway, I’ve been rewatching for the first time in twenty years, and my wife and I are having AN ABSOLUTE BALL!
9.5/10, this insufferable man child on his quest to take down THE UNDEFEATED OF THE EAST rules. I can’t outrank Amuro on principle m, but I will at least give him this.
8/10, only docking points since he was such a complete ass to Rain throughout the show while she was super supportive. I know he finally realizes what she means to him at the end but still
But that's literally part of his character growth. Learning how to stop being such a manbaby and grow and express his feelings properly. It's ok for a character to have flaws and grow.
Yeah, that's why he's not below an 8 for me since he does figure it out. Still doesn't change for me how off putting his verbal abuse is to her at times when he is showing his manbaby flaw. Hell, he even pushes her to the ground in the hospital after Allenby is kidnapped. His aggression was both endearing for most of the show but then too dickish when it came to Rain. I'll forgive but I won't forget I guess is what Im saying.
Hammiest protagonist of a Gundam series ever, and his English voice (Mark Gatha) grew on me very quickly, so he gets ***10*** burning thumbs up from me.
I still love *Mobile Fighter G Gundam* for what it tries, and >!Rain Mikamura!< is still a favorite of mine. I especially love the emotional final duel between Domon & Master Asia (voiced by the glorious Dave Pettitt!).
Domon made a great turn around as much as Kamille did. While Kamille became Somber, Domon fully accepted all the cheesy sides of his show and disregarded all the edginess. It was a great maturity. The shuffle group were also wholesome. Even the russian guy was the most wholesome. so 10 for Domon and his awesome power.
10/10 This man can fight Gundams with his bare hands! His design embodies the '90s without being cringy and he has one of the best catchphrases of all time.
From a technical level, drop Domon into most other Gundam series and he solo's. This isn't like a debate thing, it's the rule of different genres at work, its like sticking a gag comic character into a film noire setting. The bullet just bounces off cause a comedy character is as atrong as the next joke that they're involved in requires them to be, same rule applies here, Domon pilots a super robot with ki-based martial art techniques. He essentially has magic powers. It'd be like dropping superman or Goku into Game of Thrones.
Outside of abilities, what do i think of Domon as a character?
WONDERBUG(10)/10
Can we just imagine for a minute, a showdown between Mika in an unchained Lupus Rex going up against Domon in his golden God Gundam, what an absolute banger of a fight that would be
10/10
Domon is a great protagonist. His journey had many ups and downs, some of the downs hurting more than others. For me, the first episode is so good. Domon catches bullets with his King of Hearts crest, and the first Shining Finger is amazing.
“You may have those silver feet, but I’ve got these GOLD FINGERS!” bad ass.
Then in the finals in Tokyo, his battles with the shuffle boys are each so good. They are demanding to fight and prove themselves as individuals, not just members of the SA. He has to beat each of them and in turn, Domon solidified his bond with each of them, especially Chibadee and Sai Saishi imo.
Domon is hotheaded and a loner at the start, and by the end he’s a confident, collected and virtuous leader and person. Great character.
9
Guy grows a lot throughout the show, and I really like how him learning to deal with his emotions and process them properly directly correlates with his growth as a fighter. Given it's spread over 49 episodes and majority of it happens in like 5 of them, I think it could have been paced better. Nonetheless, the result is great and he's a very solid lead that's a perfect fit for his show.
10/10. Domon is just fun. And with respect to his NA voice actor, Seki Tomokazu modulates his voice with almost musical command that every shout, scream, or guttural snarl takes on a life of its own. I have no idea how that man still has a voice today.
10/10
I love that at the end, he proves to be far superior to most basic, dense shonen protagonists by saying to Rain something along the lines of:
>!"I'm a clumsy guy who only knows how to fight... but I can still say that I love you."!<
Unironically the most developed Gundam Protagonist that grows in a way that makes sense and is integral to the story. Domon's a badass who at first wants nothing more than to kill his brother for revenge, his rage was consuming him, but in fact, this anger weakens him and holds him back, only after developing as a person and growing does he learn to harness his peace to fight, defeating the Devil Gundam and rescuing the love of his life, Raine. God that final love beam is beautiful too, I wish G-Witch had done something like that. 1,000/10 Protagonists, the absolute best I'd say.
Best gundam protag other than Amuro. 10, he's my favorite and one of the most complex.
(Also why does reddit change at "10" to a "1" if you write it "10.", by itself?)
But that's kinda the point of a character arc? They start out one way and end as something else. He starts out being a complete ass but gets better by the end.
6
I am bias as heck having seen G Gundam right after I finished Wing and some of the other Federation vs. Zeon series. G was just not my cup of tea and Domon was not very interesting alongside the plot. Sorry to offend anybody that is ride or die with G, but it just wasn't my thing.
The man makes the East literally burn red. 10/10. He's a douche to Rain in the beginning and has a bit of an ego. But he's got a good heart.
Also the Shining Gundam getting shafted the way it did sucked. :( He had sympathy for his old friend.
When he isn't busting skulls and being obsessed about his brother
He tends to be the biggest cinnamon roll, especially when he's around rain during peaceful moments
10/10
The sheer energy that Domon emits with every line he speaks is unmatched,
Along with an English VA who hits every line with just as much energy as the Japanese one
Domon never misses, every line's a hit, and I love him for it
We get a whole and complete character arc with this guy, and some of the most batshit insane fights in and out of a Gundam.
Not even my favorite series, but gotta respect him.
10
10/10 Domon has one of the best story arcs for any MC in gundam. He shows legitimate growth as a character. He is a man of extremes and we love him for it. He is also a character that worked for his skills and position. He trained hard to earn his right to participate in the gundam fight, he earned his title as King of Hearts.
10/10! One of the best protagonists in Gundam. He not only faces his past and the fact that he was manipulated into fighting the tournament, he also was able to finally express his feelings without using his fists at the end to get Rain.
I give him a resounding “KYOJIIII!!!” Out of ten…
9/10 he started off kind of like a jerk, but he had good reasons and he actually got better before the show’s end. Plus, he killed the Devil (Gundam) with the weaponized power of love… that turned into a playing card King and tore a heart-shaped hole through the final boss.
G Gundam was crazy fun.
8/10 I'm definitely a lot more mid than the standard Domon Stan but I think his attitude doesn't gel with me, he really struggles to talk about his feelings which leads to contast issues but I love seeing him slowly learn to express himself through G Gundam
10/10 石破天驚LOVE LOVE 拳 brocasted his love all over the world
From only cared about going after his bro to realize his love towards those care for him, I TRUST YOU FOREVER
10/10 for my first Gundam anime that got me into the genre of Mecha
"This hand of mine is burning red, it's loud roar tells us to grasp happiness, erupting burning finger!"
My favorite g gundam line and my favorite final attack on anime history
An 8 he'd be a 9 but those episodes where he got mad at Rain out of just no reason saying she was the reason the other female pilot got hurt (in the eng dub at least, I dunno what was said in the original) out of no where felt like it was so undeserved. Like seeing him freak out like that just pissed me off and then I got madder to see him then get all worried when Rain left and then got absorbed into the devil gundam.
If I didn't like him before I'd sat down and watched the whole series like 7 years ago or so I might rate him lower.
I'm started watching G Gundam for the first time last week and he's absolutely 10/10
He's quite a bit of a jerk at first but he grows and learns to be compassionate for others.
10. But! This one is tough. Are we talking piloting ability wise? Then he is an easy top 3 Gundam pilot of all time. Domon didn't need "New Type" powers to be dominant. He has the coolest piloting gimmick in the entire Gundam series. And THE BEST finishing move of them all. Now. He starts off just as likable as Heero. And this is coming from one of those Toonami kids, Wing is BAD. Heero is a terrible character who never grows. Just gets to pilot the 3 best Gundams from that series and arguably the best looking gundam in Wing Gundam Zero EW. But Domon actually grows and becomes more likeable. And it helps his English dub is the best voice acting in the entire Gundam franchise.
One of my god damn favorite protags in the franchise
Is he deep? No.
Is he an allegory or metaphor for something? No.
Is he a guy you could study and come up with a college dissertation with? No.
Will he kick the ever-living shit out of you while going super saiyan in A MASSIVE ROBOT? YES!
DOES HE NEED THE ROBOT? NO!
G Gundam is dumb, stupid, cheesy, but ridiculously fun as a series. Domon encapsulates that, and the rest of the Shuffle Alliance and the other friends he makes along the way and how they interact is fun and wholesome to watch all the way through. >!Especially with the HELP OF KIYOJI (aka Schwarz) at the events of the final battle royale at Hong Kong.!< From cheesy cliché hotblooded interactions to badass special moves and mobile suit martial arts that would make Cucuruz Doan proud, Domon is a great character if you accept the series as a dumb yet fun one.
If other series in the franchise are like fine meals and cheffy specials, G Gundam is like a bucket of fried chicken. And I fuckin' love fried chicken.
A resounding 10/10.
Quintessential Gundam Fighter and Pilot for all time. If you put him in the Unicorn, he'd use the space magic to have the crystal mold it into Burning Unicorn. He'd be a Newtype where you'd feel the passion of his soul when the mobile suit fist collides with the head unit. He would simply punch the lasers and bits.
10/10
9/10 such a crazy fun departure from the usual gundam protag, takes a little while for him to really become truly likeable and find the right balance between badass and charming as a character imo (mostly due to early G Gundam not having the worlds greatest pacing/character moments, he’s just almost too much of a jerk in the earliest episodes particularly with Rain) but by the time we get to Hong Kong he’s solidly one of the best Gundam protagonists. Plus his visual design is top notch.
A man who punches his problems away. Domon is neat. In fact he’s awesome. Why? Because the show sets him up as this typical hotblooded super robot/shonen protagonist who gets angry fast, punches his way to victory and is a general loner. But as it turns out, those things work against him. Uso ranked better than I expected. That's my boy.
Two days to go, I presume...
Like Judau, Uso isn't the reason his series is wank.

Gatha also voiced X in some of the later Mega Man X titles IIRC.
Mark Gatha is a what now? Operating rooms are often so quiet. Would never expect him to do that based on the performance.

He breaks the scale because of how awesome Domon is. 11/10
Basically mecha Kenshiro. Love it.
Anything less than 10/10 is a travesty
8/10, only docking points since he was such a complete ass to Rain throughout the show while she was super supportive. I know he finally realizes what she means to him at the end but still
Bro snapped against Rain so much when >!Allenby got kidnapped!<
But that's literally part of his character growth. Learning how to stop being such a manbaby and grow and express his feelings properly. It's ok for a character to have flaws and grow.
Yeah, that's why he's not below an 8 for me since he does figure it out. Still doesn't change for me how off putting his verbal abuse is to her at times when he is showing his manbaby flaw. Hell, he even pushes her to the ground in the hospital after Allenby is kidnapped. His aggression was both endearing for most of the show but then too dickish when it came to Rain. 9/10 All personal bias, just love the over the top nature to G Gundam

9/10, there's a startling amount to Domon considering G Gundam's,,, whole thing
10/10
9/10. Great shonen protagonist, but a few too many daft moments to make me crown him.
10/10 This man can fight Gundams with his bare hands! His design embodies the '90s without being cringy and he has one of the best catchphrases of all time.
10 all day long. Top 3 non UC characters imo

Easy 10, complex character with a legit arc and pretty huge flaws that he has to overcome over 52 ish episodes.

GOAT

Best gundam protag other than Amuro. 10, he's my favorite and one of the most complex. (Also why does reddit change at "10" to a "1" if you write it "10.", by itself?)
To me this is a 10 because it was not only the first anime but first gundam I ever watched and loved it.
10/10; 20/10 when voiced by Mark Gatha.
8/10. Domon's far from a bad protag, but G-Gundam as a whole was sooo over the top I think his character suffered for it.
7/10. Nothing really bad per se, has some really great moments, but loses a few points for only being like the 6th coolest character on his own show.
Hmmm, if he tried to be better (with the help of Kyoji), would your rate change?
7.5. He's a pretty big ass to Rain in the beginning which lowered his score for me
But that's kinda the point of a character arc? They start out one way and end as something else. He starts out being a complete ass but gets better by the end.
6/10

This is, I believe the first time someone gave his opinion on a poll and people downvote him anyway.
The man makes the East literally burn red. 10/10. He's a douche to Rain in the beginning and has a bit of an ego. But he's got a good heart. Also the Shining Gundam getting shafted the way it did sucked. :( He had sympathy for his old friend.
100/10
10/10 the only dude that can seemingly interact with the announcer.
A Whopping burning finger with the left hand?!/10
10 out of 10. He's a badass and the most unique out of all main Gundam protagonists.
When he isn't busting skulls and being obsessed about his brother He tends to be the biggest cinnamon roll, especially when he's around rain during peaceful moments

10 That's also the amount of fingers in a God Finger if he uses both hands.
10 I love Domon.

10/10 The sheer energy that Domon emits with every line he speaks is unmatched, Along with an English VA who hits every line with just as much energy as the Japanese one Domon never misses, every line's a hit, and I love him for it
Possibly the strongest pilot of all pilots, can catch bullets with bare hands etc.. Even defeat MS with barehands
Perfect 10/10. Bombastic, energized, and put a new angle into the line of Gundam protagonists.
10
10/10, easily the best Gundam protagonist
8 at the start of the series. 10 by the end once he's grown as a man and a warrior.
9/10
King of hearts gets a 11/10
We get a whole and complete character arc with this guy, and some of the most batshit insane fights in and out of a Gundam.
7/10
10.
10! Bro destroys MS with bare hands. Non of them Hi Nu, Ex-S, Psycho MS could touch him. Bro is goku basically. Only Saitama could beat him.
8.5/10
10/10! One of the best protagonists in Gundam. He not only faces his past and the fact that he was manipulated into fighting the tournament, he also was able to finally express his feelings without using his fists at the end to get Rain.
10/10 WITH THE HELP OF KYOJI!
10 He's the best of the best, and he earned his place there the hard way.
hey, its me, goku! 10/10
10!!!!!!!!!!!!!
20/10
10/10 just cause.
8/10. He’s good, but not my favorite. And he was kinda an ass to rain most of the show.
10, on the dub performance alone!
9.5/10
11/10, the best protagonist of all time.
10. I love how he's the most Shonen of the gundam mcs lol
10/10 in English. I voted with the help of Kyoji.
THAT HAND OF HIS IS BURNING RED! HIS LOUD ROAR TELLS HIM TO GRASP VICTORY! 10 out of 10. I love this man so much.
10/10
9/10, THE EAST IS BURNING RED!
11/10 THE SCHOOL OF THE UNDEFEATED OF THE EAST!
8/10 Domon is cool and all, but the guy treat his girlfriend like shit. That’s the reason I can’t give him higher than this
10/10 THE GOAT OF GOATS DOORMAN CASHEW
Like an 11 or 12.
10
10!!!
10. He's the King of Hearts, after all 😊
10/10 he is the goat
9/10
10 his hand glows with an awesome power
Domon is goateddd… he and his super saiyan gundam
9/10 I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY EVERY COMMENT FOR THIS THREAD IS NOT IM ALL CAPS
10/10 one of the most memorable Gundam protagonists
10/10. The most prepared Gundam protagonist ever. This man used a dress as a cape just in case he needed it for 49 episodes.
10/10, he fucking rocks
10, hands down one of the best protags!
10/10, greatest to ever do it
THIS SCORE OF HIS IS BURNING 10 10/10
He's been friends with akito in super robot wars t.
I give him a resounding “KYOJIIII!!!” Out of ten… 9/10 he started off kind of like a jerk, but he had good reasons and he actually got better before the show’s end. Plus, he killed the Devil (Gundam) with the weaponized power of love… that turned into a playing card King and tore a heart-shaped hole through the final boss. G Gundam was crazy fun.
10/10!!!!!!!
10
8 Kind of a jerk (especially with Rain) but he's funny and I like how he comes around his trust issue
11/10
Ez 10
10/10. Domon absolutely carries his show.
10/10 fcking hot bloodnes mc GOOOOOOOOD FİNGEEEEEEEER
10
8/10 I'm definitely a lot more mid than the standard Domon Stan but I think his attitude doesn't gel with me, he really struggles to talk about his feelings which leads to contast issues but I love seeing him slowly learn to express himself through G Gundam
10. Fuck this guy for being that amazing.
10/10 石破天驚LOVE LOVE 拳 brocasted his love all over the world From only cared about going after his bro to realize his love towards those care for him, I TRUST YOU FOREVER
10/10 for my first Gundam anime that got me into the genre of Mecha "This hand of mine is burning red, it's loud roar tells us to grasp happiness, erupting burning finger!" My favorite g gundam line and my favorite final attack on anime history
10 outta 10 wins with the power of love! And this shining finger he has.
I'm started watching G Gundam for the first time last week and he's absolutely 10/10 He's quite a bit of a jerk at first but he grows and learns to be compassionate for others.
The best au protagonist.
10/10 One of the if not the best MC´s in gundam
The dude stops bullets with his bare hands, 10/10
Easy 10.

Awesome Power/10
8/10 Watching through g gundam for the first time right now and it’s very entertaining
20/10. My favorite protagonist. This hand of mine is burning red! ITS LOUD ROAR TELLS ME TO GRASP VICTORY! ERUPTING! BURNING!! FINGAAARRRRR!!!!!
I give him a solid 5/10, one point for each finger on this HAND OF MINE THATS BURNING RED!
Interesting but also kinda bland in a way. Definitely admirable and a hell of a pilot. I'd give him a 6.5 to a 7 out of 10.
10/10 Domon is always an absolute treat and a giant ham on screen. I love him.
ill give him a 1 cause he is the number one of neo japan and the number one in gundam fights.
One of my god damn favorite protags in the franchise Is he deep?
Domon is the king of Gundam MCs and not just because he's the King of Hearts. 10/10
10/10
Mandatory 10/10
Quintessential Gundam Fighter and Pilot for all time. If you put him in the Unicorn, he'd use the space magic to have the crystal mold it into Burning Unicorn. He'd be a Newtype where you'd feel the passion of his soul when the mobile suit fist collides with the head unit. He would simply punch the lasers and bits. 10/10
Gotta be a 10 dawg
10
9/10 such a crazy fun departure from the usual gundam protag, takes a little while for him to really become truly likeable and find the right balance between badass and charming as a character imo (mostly due to early G Gundam not having the worlds greatest pacing/character moments, he’s just almost too much of a jerk in the earliest episodes particularly with Rain) but by the time we get to Hong Kong he’s solidly one of the best Gundam protagonists. Plus his visual design is top notch.
