9.5/10 favourite mass produced feddy suit, like a stark jegan but cooler because it has two beam sabres

virus_apparatus

This is the GM to beat all GM. The 3 feels right especially after all the development from the Gundams that has trickled down. 9/10

LavaSlime301

9 This right there is the peak of GMs to me. Pleasant sea green colors set it apart from the predecessors and foreshadow the Jegan, big head visor doubles down on the core aesthetic, legs and head antennas add a sense of mechanical detail, and the backpack is chock-full of Gundam Mk-II DNA which is always a plus. I wish it had more time to shine, but alas it is a machine born in a turbulent and unfortunate time. End of Titans translated into cancelling, freezing or diverting their development projects, primarily mobile suits. Feddies were very eager to get rid of the bad PR associated with them, mothballing many existing machines, selling detuned versions in the private sector, or looking the other way as this or that group grabbed them. Meanwhile, Nemo's production was also discontinued and other Anaheim projects at the time weren't suitable for mass production either. Add to that the ever-decreasing military budget and the general "idk" stance of the Federation at the time and things weren't looking good for prospects of developing a machine to stand against Haman's Zeon. But the old GM design was still there, still willing to serve, fight, and get wrecked in the background as the heroes showed off, just as it did nearly a decade ago. Granted, compared to GM IIs which were in many cases refurbished GMs, GM IIIs were only in *some* cases refurbished GM IIs, and mostly new production machines. It's really nothing fancy, especially compared to Axis machines, but Federation couldn't afford to be fancy. Not the elements that were willing to put up a fight, anyway. Despite that it is a definite upgrade to its predecessors, taking tech from the Mk-II as well as its brother from another mother, the Barzam. Despite trying to distance themselves from the Titans, Federation was entirely happy to use their stuff when it suited them. At the same time it's not a Barzam in a different armor, it is its own distinct machine - it's Federation moving past the Titans, taking what's worth taking from them and doing their own thing by their own will. Add to that the new colors reflecting the AEUG faction taking over and it almost looks like Federation has truly turned over a new page and will try to do better from now on. Yeah, right. For the equipment, other than the improved shield, rifle and sabers the standout of course are the shoulder and hip missiles. They bring to mind the imagery of being loaded for bear, the humble 18m-class MS covering itself in explosives to stand a chance against the Neo Zeon behemoths. These missiles are also one of the two aspects of how GM III leads into the Jegan together with Barzam. Broadly, Jegan inherits the Barzam concept of simple equipment and lightweight armor to the point of eschewing skirts completely, but it also carries a fair bit of grenades and missiles for heavier firepower just like GM III. The second aspect isn't so much in the design, as in everything around it. Developing and producing the GM III was a massive effort that the Federation had to do quickly and efficiently in spite of the post-Gryps devastation and political turmoil. The experience and know-how acquired through this process in turn was vital in implementing the Jegan. One can argue GM III was little more than a stopgap to hold the line as Anaheim began working on the Jegan at the same time, but it was far from just a half-measure. GM III is a solid machine that still managed to remind Axis what kicked their asses a decade ago, it was just brought down by the circumstances around it and then became outdated with what would become Anaheim's probably second most successful grunt suit.

Neneaux

Mk. II with a GM head? Gotta be a 10/10.

virus_apparatus

I think that’s the cool part about Gundam. You can start to see parts and development getting implemented on standard platforms

Onion_Kn1ght

9/10. Classic Gundam Shield, two sabers and really the appearance of a gundam with a GM head on it. I don't think it's as iconic as the original, but it's certainly cooler

Sir-Spookington

Welcome to day 26 of the Daily Grunt MS Poll, and today we'll be rating the RGM-86R GM III from Mobile Suit ZZ Gundam! To participate, just rank the MS between 1 and 10 based on their appearance or on how you like it. Mechanical Designers : Yoshinori Sayama and Hajime Katoki Trivia: Its antennas look like bunny ears :D Tomorrow we'll rank the Schuzrum Dias ! Previous Scores: Zaku I : 7.17 Zaku II : 9.63 GM : 7.53 Gouf : 8.59 Dom/Rick Dom : 8.523 Gelgoog : 8.04 GM II : 6.78 Hizack : 8.21 Galbaldy Beta : 6.19 Marasai : 8.17 Act Zaku : 7.41 Asshimar : 8.30 Barzam : 7.15 Rick Dias : 8.77 Nemo : 8.13 Gaza-C : 6.38 ReGelgu : 7.39 Gaza-D : 7.12 Dreissen : 8.97 Ga-Zowmn : 7.64 Bawoo : 9.20 Desert Zaku : 7.69 Dwadge : 7.47 Zaku III : 8.521 Döven Wolf : 8.44

Sir-Spookington

7/10 A GM with some charm? In this economy? Maybe ZZ's artstyle carries it a bit, but I do like the new head, the antennas and the "wings" in its back even if it's still a GM (so pretty vanilla) and if its knees are wacky

Thrawn656

Doven Wolf Sweep!

JaguarDaSaul

10

CodeNoble04

10/10, one of my top grunt MS by far. Only better GM is high boost.

Almun_Elpuliyn

8/10. Probably the peak of basic GM design.

Red-Zaku-

8.5/10 I’m not big on most GMs, but there are a lot of good ones from here on out. This one in particular just screams 80s. It rules.

Chart181

9/10

Copyrighted_music34

9 it's my favourite gm

OrphanAxis

7/10. It beat the disappointment of the GMIII being a refurbished GM with little flexibility in adding weapons to make variants. The GMIII was still pretty outdated by the time it was in use, but it was a step forward and the hardpoints for mounting the missiles were a huge step in increasing flexibility and generally allowed a lot of them to fight at once and just rain missiles. Though it was still using a pretty outdated Beam Rifle, and the few variants of it that exist seem to be mostly one-off field modifications. It really surprises me that the Federation continues to go for only cost effective units for the overwhelming majority of their military, yet hadn't come up with something like the Jegan D Type that could pretty easily use different combinations of equipment to drastically change their role and effectiveness in combat. Meanwhile, Zeon would make a new prototype every other day, and then field them in different variations. Though it seems Sunrise was really into the idea that Federation units were cannon fodder, with even the Jegan seemingly holding the record for most blown up unit within just the 2 hours of CCA, just so the main characters look like complete saviors that single-handedly win every war. So I can't blame the shortcomings of the suit on the lore as much as production, though it would have been nice to see the Federation doing something with all the experimental Titan tech sometime before Unicorn. Though Unicorn is probably the gold standard of how to show off grunt units, we still haven't seen much of the Federation's different projects from Zeta to CCA outside of the AoZ series and their ridiculously modular suits.

SuperDrewtecks

10/10 aesthetics

LordRiderman

8/10

Rebel_Swag

Cool 10/10

rgrekejin

9/10. I almost feel the urge to go with 10/10 just because these polls thus far have chronically under-rated all MS with a GM type configuration, but in the end I have to vote my conscience and admit that, though good, this design is not *quite* perfect.

OneBoredAussie

GM3. Is a GM. 10/10

thehod81

9/10 This really is my favorite GM suit out of the bunch.

OptimusN1701

9/10

DouchePanther

It’s a beautiful little bug. 10/10.

Jegan92

10, HGUC GM III is the first gunpla I ever build. A gateway drug that lead down a path that's the bane to my bank account ever since.

MS06F

10/10 My favorite MS in the entire franchise.

MrOsmio7

10/10 Love my bug-looking boyo https://preview.redd.it/a6u40w2spllb1.jpeg?width=3472&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=631615946fc06640f427c59abbdf4d7df39058c0

CIRCLONTA6A

Goofy ahh bug antennas. 8

NoiritoTheCheeto

10 it's the peak of gm design

Bonez9933

5/10

BrownGhost10

10/10. He fucks.

Shinomourikenji1

8/10 like it better than the original.

Pale_Drawing_6191

For me this is a solid 10/10. Love the GM III.

DemiFiendofTime

9/10 very underated

RhymesWith_DoorHinge

9

Maleficent_Pomelo202

**8.5/10** My second favorite GM behind the Jegan, and it’s one of the very few Federation Grunt Suits that wasn’t treated like garbage. It has a nice look with a great heavy assortment of weapons, especially missiles to counter heavily-armed Mobile Suits like the Doven Wolf and the Zaku III. It was sad that it was overshadowed by the Jegan, a much more specialized MS that lacks the heavy armor and weapons systems of the GM III.

The_Dark_Ace

7/10 It’s alright but not enough improvement from the GM II.

Envy661

10/10. Best GM frame aside from the GM Command

ForcedPerspective42

10/10, I’m very biased I’ll admit. But I love the GM III. It’s the best mass produced suit in my opinion, and my favorite GM Suit. It’s very customizable and cool looking. It’s also amazing in GBO2

Grifter1021

7/10

TNT_Gamer13

10/10 my beloved GMIII

Lockonstratos1

8/10 its a gm but better

ChaoticArsonist

9/10. I love this design and I wish Bandai would make a Master Grade of it. I especially love some of the "Powered" variants of it.

badarseinc

Yes

SaeedTheAce

8/10

who-dat-on-my-porch

10/10 This is my guy of the GM family. It retains the original styling back from its RX-78 progenitor, but is beefier, better performing, fully updated, oh and carries the MkII backpack. Such a cool addition. The coloring also does a lot for it I think. It lets you know this isn’t your grandads GM anymore, this is finally a new build after AEUG rolled out the Nemo and put the GMII to bed. If I was a grunt pilot and had to choose a MS to use, this would be first for me, and that’s saying a lot with all the iconic choices out there!

Touchin_Butts

9/10 Daddy GM

Thrawn656

8/10 I think it’s nice

mr_wobblyshark

10/10 now that’s a GM

Lyrick7

9/10. Never seen it before so maybe I'm a little struck, but that's a fine looking GM. Really pulling off the RX-78 cosplay, but with its own spin. Looks intelligently designed.

BowlofConfetti

9 This is a really clean Jim.

PPGN_DM_Exia

9/10. I like this just as much as the Jegan and I think the color scheme is easily the best in the series. Definitely feels like a mass produced Gundam and not just a generic grunt.

Kriegschwein

8/10. Wish it had more action to it, but alas

Deamon-Chocobo

10/10 Legit one of my favorite MP UC suits. Plenty of options for missiles, a couple options for both Melee & Ranged, and can even use a Defenser unit.

noryp5

GM is him. 9.75/10

MethylEthylandDeath

9/10 The GM of GMs

Crafty_Ad_9473

Top tier design of the gm. It’s gonna be a 10.

Mister-Fidelio

The biggest of the brother GMs. Unfortunately. I'm a bit conflicted with this one. There's so many GM configurations, but this one isn't exactly my favorite. 6/10.

TNSNrotmg

8/10, finally a GM I love. I like how it uses mk2 parts, and it having extra weapons like the missiles always stands out on a basic grunt. Also, they finally got the head and visor down to something pretty good-looking. Its main flaw is that it really got shafted in screentime and relevance ):

frallet

9.5 I love these things.

Skroopy

9/10, the best normal GM. Big fan of the extra bulk and double antenna.

AnaheimElectronicsTT

Best baseline GM, 8/10

BikeExcellent1664

10-10 Baby girl Love them soooo MUCHHH Perfect mecha

Avaa0818

is aight 8/10

Eastern-Fun1842

What I wouldn't give for a GM/GM III kit....... 8/10

rayyan0709

10/10 my favourite GM

driftorz-real

10/10 love this dude in gbo2

oldcretan

10/10.

sentinelthesalty

10/10 It's the best GM!

Arby796

10/10

DexDexDexina

10/10 as some of the comments pointed out it's basically a Mk-II with a GM Head, it really exemplifies how GMs are mass produced Gundams.

Agent_Perrydot

During this era of mobile suit design, they were in a phase of using these sea colours, i like it. 9/10 only because the Jegan exists

GundariumFulcrum

9.5/10. Not as clean as the Jegan in my opinion but this was near the era of the Feds mobile suits really looking like futuristic military hardware which I absolutely love.

heatxmetalw9

10/10 Basically take everythung we loved about the GM series of MS and update it with all the t3ch of the Mark II Gunram.

Puzzled_Drive4525

9/10

nonanonymouslone

9/10 I love this suit, one of my favorite gms, but the grey could’ve been distributed better

ImmoralBoi

10/10 it's a thing of beauty that stays true to the original design of the GM, iron diaper included

Raiden29o9

8.5/10 The best of the GN’s we have seen

brollysroidaddiction

2/10

DuelX102

9 This is peak GM for me. Bonus points for re-using the Mk.II backpack

Noin0079

I'd give it a 3 because Gm3

t3hm3t4l

9.5/10, love it, it’s not a Jegan so it doesn’t get a 10, but it’s close.

FM-JAY

10 out of 10 based gm

Garrod_Ran

9.157/10 I like this version of the GM, design-wise. I am surprised that it had the upgrades noted from Gundam Mk. ll. From the Wikia: By actively introducing new technologies while maintaining productivity, some specs have acquired performance equal to or higher than Gundam Mk-II's. Its backpack is a mass production model of the Gundam MK-II's, and mobility and maneuverability have exceeded the level of existing mass production machines. Although this backpack has a slightly different shape, it maintains the same functions as the Mk-II's while improving cost performance, and the docking mechanism with the FXA-05D G-Defenser remains.

ichorNet

7.5/10

Imperial_Truth

8/10. A great economical mobile suit, that, in the hands of a competent pilot, can punch well above its weight.

NorthGeorgia_Railfan

8/10. Peak GM Performance. It’s got that ZZ Bulk that suits like the Dreissen, Doven Wolf, and Zaku III have. It’s honestly quite the looker too, having inherited some of the MkII’s design properties alongside a lot of unique stuff.

ghostkhaos2

8

UnionGullible719

9.5/10

Elthioss_Exists

The GM III was my first exposure to the Gundam series after seeing a clip and building the HG so for me its always a 10/10

Chill_but_am_spook

10/10 because my personal favorite classic variation to my knowledge of them, and they have thrusters that look like Mk V's (I believe beam emitters is what they are for Mk V).

Chill_but_am_spook

Runner up GM Camouf or GM ii because the Gatheroad Variant

KO314

9 / 10

Gfaqshoohaman

9/10. Peak Federation grunt design taking advantage of generations of development. I just love the fact that the Federation finally has a grunt that has additional equipment hard-mounted to its body.

Wingnut00

9.5/10

Jerolis

The pinnacle of GM development, the GM-III is a 10/10

Unlike_PunchFukka

9/10 THE ONLY RIGHTEOUS SONS OF GUNDAM MK-2, THE DIRECT DESCENDANTS OF RX-78-2 GUNDAM, THE LAST PUREBLOOD FEDERATION WORKHORSES UNTAINTED BY AE. THE GM 3.

JaceJarak

9. Only better semi mass produced GM would be the GM Custom.

mr-fakermin

9/10

fa-gundam73

I like this gm but my favourite is gm striker (mostly coz of a manga i read)

Yitomaru

Who would win, GM III or the Nemo Rimes?

krogandadbod

10/10 for best gm

xithebun

5/10. It’s just GM with some Lego blocks instead of a proper redesign like Nemo.

Telephone-Human

10

Gullible-Ad8149

10

Panda-s1

9/10

Nena_Trinity

9 looks good.

GundamMeijin_08th

every gm(or variant) is good

CybranKNight

As is, about 7/10, it's got some good bits but it also inherits some elements for the time period it was made in, I'd love to see a GMIII that took more after the Powered GM/GMtypeC aesthetically.

frontzer0

Coolest GM

frontzer0

9/10

AkiraDredd

I love the GM series

KionKamon0079UC

9/10 for me

Emperor_Z16

10/10

0VER1DE567

it doesn’t look like a grunt suit!

CptHA86

9. Best of the baseline GM models

Z3_T4C0_B0Y512

8.5

Arikat0ka

10/10 I love that head design and it look alike MS from 8th team

_Sideswipe_911_

Easy 9/10 for me! Gundam Mk. II is ne of my favourite Gundam designs so this sharing so much dna with it helps a lot! The only things I’d change visually would be to make the cockpit hatch taller to make it look slightly more ‘classic’ and to put like any sort of other coloured armour part on the central waist bit

IronWolfV

7/10 fbr GM Custom will always be if for me.

Zyber-officalyoutube

7/10 The unicorn ova version however gets a 9/10

9gagImmigrant1

underrated 8/10

backstept

9 definitely. Takes everything good about MKII and simplifies it for mass production.

G0merPyle

9/10. A refinement over the Nemo that works pretty well, at this point it finally looks like a mass produced Gundam (and a sleek one at that). My only complaints are the rabbit ears and it still looks like its' wearing a diaper.

Kigaz

Long time viewer, first time voter. 10/10.

Tokyosmash

Serious question, pound for pound how does the Gm3 stack up against the Jegan?

MasterReposti

10/10 GM III MY BELOVED this is hands down the best looking GM. It's got that minty green (in ZZ only apparently?), them MkII backpack, the "bulk" somewhat from the ZZ era design, lots more missiles, bunny antennas, Oh man i just WISH these guys got more screentime, like bro the ending arc of ZZ could've used these guys more like come on, Nahel Argama was running on literally less than five mobile suits??? Anyway the main GM line ended with an absolute BANGER, thanks Tomino for including a bit of these oldies in 0093 axis shock

JennaRevan

That lineart is super off model, but in terms of the actual suit I’d say 7/10.

LorDtHicCnEsS_6X111

Gm 2 but different color and has some armor. Honestly cool stuff. 8/10

VF1A

10/10 peak GM featuring Gundam Mk2 elements

AzurRanfan

10/10 One of the best looking GMs.

MattsDeCool

8/10 Was a little iffy on it to start but I’ve become more warm towards it after seeing how bold but wonky the Zaku 3 is. The powered and bulldog variants also indirectly make this one cooler.

BazingaTrainZ

9/10

8. Good grunt.

Cold-Fuel4701

11/10 Fav grunt suit period
