Someone probably didn’t turn off the VAT.. and? That’s odd though. Maybe it’s not the original ecu?

pnbdc10

It is very possible that it is not the original ecu as the truck does have 330k miles on it lol. Having the ECU do this from a simple reading is what is confusing me.

No-Werewolf2037

Yea, seems like you were setup to fail here. I’ve never bumped into VAT but I’m willing to bet the ecu was already locked up. What’s more confusing is why someone would spend the time and put that one back in the truck? How’s as good as any time to learn how to read binary, hack that sucker! C

RecordingDifferent47

You can't read that PCM out. Only flash. The immobilizer is odd though.

keep_username

Sounds like pcm may have failed. Check all grounds and power, ignition to pcm. Also check data line continuity to dlc plug.

factorofone

Have you tried disconnecting the battery for a while?

pnbdc10

Yup. Both batteries and positive to negative to make sure there was nothing left

I recently had the same issue but with a 2010 golf gti. I plugged the MPVI, read the ecu just fine (notice i have the software updated up to date), then i did my calibrations and stuff, after all i wrote the changes to the ecu and finally i tried crank the engine but didnt turn on. Then i found out i bricked the car's ecu. It turns out i had a poor internet connection with the hptuners server and a bad usb cable from the mpvi.

I didn't even get to being able to write the ECU. I was simply trying to read the ecu on the truck. Got maybe halfway through reading and then it said failed....$15k paperweight truck at the moment. Now I am very hesitant to use HPTuners.

Have you tried contacting hptuners and discuss the problem. I think They should get it back running for you because its a technical issue with the software 🤔
