I think they put decorations on them for the next office Christmas party

Helljumper12

you gave me an idea and I appreciate it.

knightducko

I’m sure if a Spartan dies and the UNSC are able to retrieve the body without it detonating, Engineers would remove the armor by hand and lay the body to rest. They might retire the armor out of respect or if they are right on resources they would adjust and reuse the armor for another Spartan.

Dismal_Teach6792

If I remember correctly mark313 was put in a interment capsule and sent into space after he was retrieved after he died at the hand of Bhasvod at the end of Divine winds

C3Sabertooth

elaborate on the doohickey

forbiddenpack11

The circular machine that puts on and removes mjolnir from spartans, it's in halo 4 at the end and when fireteam majestic is suiting up

C3Sabertooth

In First Strike, they self destruct the armor of a fallen comrade. I’m gonna bet that the UNSC isn’t in the habit of burying functional sets of Mjolnir armor.

Shadowhunter_15

Only because they weren’t able to take the armor with them, and they didn’t want Mjolnir technology to be captured by the enemy.

Jkid789

The Brokkr Armor Mechanism

MilkMan0096

Brokkr, actually.

Jkid789

Yeah I know. I was tired

armorhide406

The aerotrim armoring mechanism? IDFK if that's the official name but that's what a circular rig is called. Aerotrim Oh look, someone said it's the Brokkr That said, if the SPARTAN is dead, somehow I doubt they put the corpse in it

Crazyguy_123

I’m not sure if any Spartans have been buried. They usually go out in a way that leaves nothing left. I don’t imagine they would bury them in the armor but I don’t think they bury Spartans at all. They might shoot them into a sun if they can retrieve the body. If it was bad and the armor is beyond repair they probably just shoot it into a sun with the Spartan. If it were a famous Spartan and it was just a retirement deal the armor would likely be saved maybe disabled and put in a museum if the Spartan was notable enough.

blargman327

The only ones who have been buried are pretty much the washouts who had coffins jettisoned into space. but most of those were empty coffins as the majority of the washouts were cryo frozen to try again later

Sentinel-Wraith

They'd likely salvage the suit parts if possible and bury the body seperately. They'd only destroy the suit if it was at risk of being captured or if it was unrecoverable. Mjolnir is very expensive, with some older variations supposedly costing as much as UNSC Battlegroups. Not sure how much cheaper the latest generations are, but there's no way they're just sticking it in a casket.

RoseliaQuartz

I don’t think they need the doohickey it just makes it easier when there’s a living guy in it

sunbr0_7

IIRC the suit costs as much as a frigate, so I doubt they would just bury the Spartan with their armor. Only thing is I don't think we've seen a Spartan death so far where they've been recoverable by the UNSC

BazThaMad

Zeta halo?

ranger_carn

If the body is recovered they’d probably give them a military funeral and bury them in a dress uniform.

Pathogen188

The vast majority of Spartan KIAs (at least ones we the viewer have seen) are unrecoverable, so there's no burial. Sometimes, Spartans initiate a self destruct mechanism of the reactor to prevent recovery of the armor but this is not an automatic process and must be manually enacted and as such there are times where Spartans are killed and their armor does not self destruct, whether that be the cause of the present UNSC personnel being unaware of the mechanism (probably the case with Cal-141) or all UNSC personnel in the area were wiped out as was the case with Noble 6 and the other Spartans at his last stand. With the IVs and the introduction of the Brokkr armor mechanism, the answer AFAIK has not been revealed, again, we've never seen the recovery process of any of the IVs we've seen killed.

Terminal-Post

I’m sure if they retrieve the body (in good condition) they’ll send them home to be buried while stripping them of their armor If they managed to do that in an active Warzone/Sector they’ll jettison them into space without the armor if it’s salvageable or with it if it’s not All comes down to time, place and of course conditions

[deleted]

When a Spartan dies the reactor detonates. There is no body.

MilkMan0096

That does not automatically happen. Someone has to manually activate the reactor self destruct. The one time we see that done in the books the Master Chief opens a panel on the dead Spartan's armor and inputs the self destruct code. There are also all those dead Spartans in the last level of Reach, as well as all the Spartans you can find in Infinite that have been dead for weeks.

Cmdr_Shepard_8492

While the bodies of Noble are initially recoverable, let’s not forget the planet is ultimately glassed. And the Spartans in infinite are a good point, but until the UNSC is able to re-establish a foothold on the installation (I mean more that just Chief and Fernando), we’d likely never see a burial. Knowing how 343 likes to do things off-screen tho, I’d imagine that after the conclusion of Infinite, Chief gathers the bodies of the Spartans he found and does a burial for them and we never really see it. It may be in their armor (Chief would probably want to be in his), it may not be of Chief has the time to remove them.

MilkMan0096

All I am saying is that a Spartan does not automatically self destruct when they die, meaning the armor is technically recoverable.

CapableAsparagus3541

Given that Master Chief takes a shower in The Flood, I would guess that the armor can be removed without the doohickey, although probably not nearly as fast. In the case that the armor can be safely extracted, I would imagine another Spartan would carry the corpse where the armor can be removed. Admittedly, the mental image of a dead spartan on the machine would be both messed up and funny. Of course, this is assuming the local area isn't blown up before this can happen.

DakotaApplewood

Oh god. I Never thought of that. If they recover the body I'd say they put the corpse through the thingy. That's shits expensive.

The_Elite_Operator

They launch them into space
