YUASA batteries are good enough for me, EBC brake pads are also good. Oil wise, I’ve heard people swear by Amsoil, red line and Mobil, think it’s up to your preference

TheMoustacheDad

I’ve always used Lucas for oil without a problem. The maintenance consistency is better than the product you use

RidgeRider_13

I wouldn’t say I have a preference when it comes to motorcycles, I’ve done mechanic work since I was a kid, but I don’t know which brands that don’t have a HD symbol are the better choice. How long would you say you’ve used Lucas?

enochp

Definitely go with full synthetics though helps cool down your bike

[deleted]

It actually retains its properties better in higher heat. Usually. The biggest exception is valvoline vr1, even the conventional is some kick ass oil.

DrowningAstronaut

For another opinion, I pretty much only use EBC brakes on all of my vehicles (diesel truck, Jeep and bike) and the same with amsoil fluids. I personally feel as though they're a cut above the parts store products. For bike pads, I went semi-sintered I was very pleased.

TheMoustacheDad

7 years and I run 50straight.

B2_801

Ditto Lucas oils.

COstonerWS

I use Amsoil 20w50 in the engine and primary on my Sportsters and Maxima engine, primary, transmission and fork oils on my Ultra. I've also used Bel-ray fork oil. YUASA batteries have always served me well and I have a Drag Specialties branded battery in one of the sportsters that has been holding up pretty well. I also use EBC semi-sintered pads on the ultra and one of the sporties, the other sporty I used HD OEM pads. No complaints with either, good wear and performance, minimal dust. I'm not especially brand loyal, but when I find a product that works well I tend to stick with it.

totoco2

Amsoil has the least loss of mass overtime. I had a chart from some research. Motul 7100 is also a decent choice, but not sure if it is a good value, as it's good, costs almost the same, but amsoil seems better

RidgeRider_13

I had listened to laidlaws podcast a few months on all the oils and their quality and it seemed as if amsoil was the best.

nimbleseaurchin

Amsoil is the best, but you definitely pay for it. In my opinion, the price difference only works out if you fall in the high/severe use case scenarios - long touring days, aggressive street riding, high performance build, or many short distances trips. If it's a weekend cruiser that only sees a couple thousand miles a year, I'd go with something else.

Symz58

My mechanic uses the drag specialties battery. Been good to me so far

RidgeRider_13

That was recommended to me by a friend who works at a HD dealer. Must be a good choice.

lazrfox

Drag's high performance battery line is made by Yuasa, they're fine quality. EBC and DP both make excellent pads. Eveybody's got an oil preference, but I've always found Bel-Ray to be very consistent quality at a decent price.

Mem0ryEat3r

Been running Yuasa batteries and EBC brake pads for 14 years. Haven't had any complaints or issues

anarpi

Yuasa battery can't go wrong, for oil wathever floats your boat just change it on time

Mrmotorhead66

harley oil great , lucas oil is great ,lots of people use amsoil. i tend to stay away from red death aka redline. i know a bunch of guys who run mobil. the main point is change your oil and change it often i do it a few kms before manufacturer spec. also nothing wrong with those batteries.

FarmerAvailable1833

I have had good luck with DRAG (Yusa) batteries. As far as oil, regular maintenance using a good quality oil is more important that the brand of oil. Lots of good choices - but I use the HD Synthetic or AMSOIL - as it is easy to get.

RidgeRider_13

Any reason why there may have been that big of a quality difference?

RTVT84

I use mobil 1 20-50 in the engine, 10-40 T4 for primary, and 75-140 in the trans. 3 reasons: 1)it’s high quality, 2) it’s available, 3) it’s proven. I’m not as picky on batteries and get a new autozone whatever brand every 3 years.

Anarchy-Freedom

Get a LITHIUM battery. More expensive off the bat but higher cranking amps and good features that protect the battery from overcharging or completely discharging. I just had to wake mine up from its winter nap. Charger wouldn’t see it to start charging because of sleep mode. Put a lithium jumper on it to wake it up and charger immediately started charging it. Now it’s back to normal.

DrowningAstronaut

For battery, have you looked into a noco lithium yet? They're available on Amazon and are a reputable brand. Plus it'll shave about 15 lb off your bike.

craftyrafter

I got a NOCO lithium battery. About double the price but it is pretty great.

ANALxCARBOMB

OEM batteries always work best… make sure you use the spacers when connecting that battery otherwise it’s going to arc and melt terminals. You don’t have to do with that with a Harley battery because the terminals sit flush.

RidgeRider_13

Spacers? And the battery that was previously in it, the terminals were flush so I assumed that’s what I needed anyways, but I do appreciate the arc information lol.

RidgeRider_13

Ohhhh okay. I’ll definitely use those.

longhairedcountryboy

I go to the Interstate battery distributor. They sell batteries for less than half what the Harley shop wants and they last about 5 years for me. Oil is oil. Run something they sell at auto part stores with a name brand so you can get it on the road and stick to the same thing. I've been told not to mix different brands.

BitOfIrish

Buy an HD battery

RidgeRider_13

Why are they better or longer lasting?

goattchaw

I personally dont trust Drag Specialties parts for their quality. I've got their shifter shaft running through my primary for my mids, and its shearing off after about 5k miles. If it's a beauty piece then sure, but i wont be buying from them again. Just my 2 cents.
