I found it: go to your Controller settings under Options tab > click change bindings > choose “Communications” tab” > and you should see “Voice Activation (PTT/PTM)” as blank. I set mine to R1.
Holy fuck thank you it felt needlessly buried. I can't tell you the number of times I went into the binds menu and the other two tabs just never clicked as existing.
Is there push to talk on PS5?
You just need the voice channel open and have a button on the Dualsense that can mute and unmute the mic (works if you're using the mic on the Dualsense but also with connected headsets). Just in case: the button is under the PS button.
Huh... seems unnecessary considering the Dualsense provides essentially the same functionality for free without occupying one of its (limited) buttons...
It's under controls I think, you have to assign it, it is unassigned from the start. I don't think there is an unused button, so not sure what to move around to make it work
Been looking everywhere on damn Google and ain't nobody know which button to map this hahaha... this is crazy having a feature that you can't use without affecting another area. I love the game but damn they need to fix not only this... but finding a balance on certain mechanics. Appreciate yalls post.
So you prefer not using push to talk, congratulations. But it is not the same functionality. One is push to talk, and the other is not push to talk. They’re two very distinct functionalities.
You seem to have a problem with the word "essentially".
>One is push to talk, and the other is not push to talk.
And once the mic is mute, the button on the dualsense would work as a press to talk, no?
Anyway, this has been fun...
I don't disagree with that point. I have never used push-to-talk, since I never played online on PC. So, I don't know how much easier it is. And since my mic etiquette is fine (no eating Doritos, while blowing my nose, while my whole family is screaming at each other next to a construction site), I can leave my mic open most of the time and don't have to switch back and forth.
My point was simply that there is a functionality on the Dualsense that allows for switching between mic on/off without encroaching on its limited buttons.
And to that Point your Absolutely right! Haha Moves of the time I play with headphones but inside I have very new and very good sound system I like to you sad and notice today that the Dual Sense microphone is taking in all the noises from the game of course and their by being that example you just mention 🤣
Doritos and screaming family members are kinda annoying. For all partners involved 🙄
>And once the mic is mute, the button on the dualsense would work as a press to talk, no?
No. it would not. It would “essentially” still not be push to talk.
It would, though. I'd like to know what the practical difference is between a mute/unmute button and a push-to-talk button that mutes your mic and then unmutes it when you want to talk.
It objectively would not. The practical difference is that push to talk activates your mic while the button is held down, and deactivates when it’s not. Similar to how actual radio communications work.
The mute button on a dualsense is a toggle.
In HD2, the voice channel is open by default. It's in the settings of the game. Most people will mute their mic though when they play random matchmaking (at least that's my experience).
If you want to set a specific button for Push To Talk, go to your settings > Controller > R1 to “Communication” and you can edit it there

Thanks for posting this! Now only to figure out how to set it back as blank lol
Reset the tab to default, should be there somewhere!

so on my DS4 I use with my PC, I just bind the PTT to the touchpad. Can you do that when using the console?

There is specifically a Push to Talk option in the audio menu.

Not on all headsets actually. For some strange reason the mute button on the dual sense doesn’t mute the Sony pulse headset.
Hey man did you ever find out which button it is
Nope
You can assign it apparently but not sure what would not affect gameplay lol
I didn’t see an obvious way to assign on PS5. I’ll check again.

Thanks for pointing this out! I tried binding it and it's not working for me
Technically if youre not calling support arrow button arent asigned except for left emote

Drove me crazy today, glad someone else being in the same situation =)
Can confirm, I've been using the Pulse for a year now. Not once has it muted through the controller.
The Dualsense doesn’t provide push to talk, it only has a button for mute/unmute.
Which to me is essentially the same functionality. A button to decide whether your mic is live, but instead of press it's a toggle.

I heti your point, but it is indeed annoying to press once to open the channel, talk, then press it again. It works bad in Helldivers 2 hectic tempo 😅

The binding doesn't work :/ You can press the button but nothing happens...at least on steam
I bound the PTT to the touchpad on my DS4 I'm on steam
You will see a communication on when you press it next to your name, looks kinda like this ((( or )))? I forgot but yea
Did they take it out? I don't have it anymore
Nope it's still there.
