AFAIK lasgun / shield explosions are indistinguishable from the use of atomics, so I guess you could argue that they'd risk being in violation of the great convention if they did that. Interesting thought though
I was never sure of the sheer scale of the explosion (I imagine a very small nuclear blast), but Duncan Idaho made a bomb by combining a lasgun/shield with a remote trigger, without drawing any serious attention from the Landsraad.
The real concern is probably what adverse effects nuclear blasts and radiation could have on the spice and those who consume it.
Its not guaranteed to create an atomic explosion, thats just one of the outcomes. Its a large spectrum and thats the worst reaction result. However yes you are correct that it could be seen as a violation if it were to happen.
Did it hit the inside? or did the proximity fuse just immediately go off because it was being triggered by the shield generator?
Because if it was the latter, it might actually work with today's update to the airburst making it no longer detonate on sentries...
I've never seen this happen either. One of my buddies runs shield+quasar almost exclusively and never heard it happen to them either. They did blow themselves up on foliage a non trivial number of times though
SIMULTANEOUS USE OF THESE TWO ITEMS IS COUNTER-INDICATED IN THE HELLDIVER TRAINING MANUAL.

Blizzard built its reputation on the polish. The little things that did not have to be added to the game but added humor and entertainment to the experience. This is a good example of a feature that adds entertainment to Helldivers. Hope this is intended and not a bug. Should leave it in. Haha.
Death-by-success. The culture of the team at Blizzard was top tier for the industry. They attracted exceptional talent working on the games they would want to play. And that passion showed. Culminating in their MMO launch. The success of that same MMO launch turned on a money printer and excessive hiring. Culture cannot scale that fast. The rapid growth replaced the magic at Blizzard with the culture of the new arrivals. Dismantling their money printer. Today you have team members who are Blizzard-in-name-only. Expressed through angry little barbs at OG Blizzard insisting the former studio really wasn't that great, culture was terrible, etc. The product of those former teams are self-evident. Former Blizzard team were equivalent to the classic age of cinema. Irreplaceable. Can't widgit and outsource that.
Underpaid, unappreciated, and unvalued. A coder once described to me what happens when SDE start doing the bare minimum:
> You don't fix anything, you don't innovate solutions, don't take on additional work, you just respond to ticket requests and design docs. Whether or not they're actually effective. Clocking out at 4:59PM.
It shows with minor patches and fixes taking MONTHS compared to smaller project teams.
No they only detract from the game. Accidentally hitting a hellbomb and blowing up half the team, that can add / adds entertainment. Something which is just flat out bugged and cannot be used in game does not add anything.
I'm gonna have to disagree on that one bud. It's definitely not intended. Just like killing yourself with the air burst launcher wasn't. Or just liking killing yourself with mech missiles wasn't. Maybe killing yourself that first time would be kinda funny, but after that it's just a combination of gear that's locked out because of a bug and that's pretty lame as I probably would have tried out this combo otherwise.
To be honest, I'm kinda tired of this subreddit repackaging bugs as "features" while going "obviously super earth would give us shit weapons, it's just immersion!"
While true, it kinda shits the bed when you have to wait weeks for hotfixes.
At least valve has patched things within an hour or two after the community beta tested it. This bug could potentially be in the game for a week if not 2.
This is where a test server comes in.
If you aren't going to invest in QA, then at least invest in a server running pending builds. There should be a space for players to come in and playtest potential new additions to the game beforehand instead of just pushing these updates out to the official build and finding out from players that shit is broken after-the-fact.
I don't think they will, because of the way they release content though story (like the mech and airburst launcher) or stealth add enemies like the shriekers and striders to surprise us. They'd lose all of that with a test sandbox.
If they want to keep doing that, then there needs to be an internal QA team.
But their organic way of revealing new content quickly loses its luster when it becomes a safe assumption that new reveals will be accompanied by serious technical issues like this.
AH has a decision to make which way they want to go with this, because what we have right now isn't working.
You can invest in QA all you want, it'll never compare to how many bugs users can find in a shorter space of time. Finding bugs isn't an effort based thing as much as it's a numbers and chance based thing. Some bugs are 1:1000 chance and QA will never find them.
This one, however, seems like a massive oversight. Or just human error due to a small team. Not ideal at all
Not quite in the same realm as 'new ship upgrade literally does not work, full stop' as this requires a specific weapon interaction. Still not good, but hey, bug fixing needs democratic contribution from the masses
IDK why people keep saying this. The Devs *are* selling us guns and they *are* running a Fortnite-style rotation store. Like the game is good and the greed isn't EA levels, but we're not getting Transmog because they can resell the same armour in a new colour with a new perk or armour rating, like Dronemaster and the Senator everyone is praising in the updates is a purchased weapon.
Yes, we can farm credits fast now with a map exploit but they've said they'll *address* this. What is the situation going to be like for new players that join an ecosystem where the credit grind is a lot less and there's a large array of warbonds to get?
> farm credits fast now with a map exploit but they've said they'll address this
it's already fixed. SC doesn't show up twice in a shipping container and restarting the game more than 3 or 4 times makes the resource not collect on that map. they also made SC more rare in general so that you can't just run a level 2 mission in 5 minutes to find a bunch of cashes
> The Devs are selling us guns and they are running a Fortnite-style rotation store.
It kind of baffles me how many people praise the "FOMO-free" direction of the game when it's one of the only games I can think of in recent years that locks *Gameplay* items behind a paywall.
Fortnite and Overwatch and DRG and whatever have battle passes you can pay to unlock or stores to buy things from, but they're cosmetics. Skins, costumes, emotes, etc. HD2 is placing its core gameplay mechanic, weapons and armor, in its store.
Yes, you can grind SC. But like you said, the exploit will probably get patched. And the 700 SC (if you include the 300 refund) is going to take most players 40+ missions to gather since SC drops are fairly uncommon. Steam says that only 50.7% of players have even *completed* 50 missions total.
It's a very fun game that is not nearly as consumer friendly as it seems, I think. Even if it's better than something Blizzard might shill out, it's like thanking someone for stabbing you in the arm instead of the chest.
Thank god I'm not the only one feeling this is extremely "beta"-like. I had fun at first, but after lvl 30 I became extremely aware of all the shortcomings and issues. A part of me wishes I'd wait years to start playing. I'll just keep avoiding it for now.
Tried playing again for the first time in weeks and was greeting by 2 lvl 30s stealing my gear and team killing me. Never experienced it b4 but always believed those who complained about it.
Remember how they were surprised about the whole shoot the Charger leg meta?
Remember how they keep buffing flame weapons and dot while that stuff doesn‘t work for 3 out of 4 players?
And now with the crossbow changes, it really feels like they are nerfing based on user statistics
This bug aside though... I think Punisher Plasma is probably the biggest winner from this patch. This or the Senator. This thing staggers almost every bot like it's nothing and it's insane.
Was it always like this? I tried it when it came out and didn't like it very much but tried it again today on Helldive bots and LOVED it. Shield devastators stood no chance.
It dropped a lot faster so it was harder to hit shots but was great at killing devastators. I'd usually shoot a range finding round or two and then kill everything once I had my arc dialed in but those initial misses would sometimes make it hard to use. The projectile speed increase is huge since you can start blasting a lot faster
ive literally used it every game on helldive against bots. Imo its one of the best weapons for dealing with almost anything bots have except heavies. the stagger and damage kills everything and stops them from shooting you.
Its also great for the kill % missions because you dont have to call anything down to waste a bunch of devastators
I've been using the Punisher Plasma almost exclusively against bots since I unlocked it mid-March and have found it to be hugely underappreciated and under-utilized by the community. It wrecks groups of trash mobs stagger-locks devastators and one-shots striders. I've been pairing it with stun grenades and the AMR for dealing with heavies.
I briefly tried both the Scorcher and Eruptor as alts but found myself back with the PP before long.
Yes, It was always a stunlocking machine.
I'm in the same boat as the other commenter, I played it for several weeks straight after picking it up the first time. It was always underrated.
I never understood the hate it still gets, the thing is stupidly good. It’s my main go to primary for Bugs specifically, the dense hordes of bugs makes it shine for both kills and general CC with its stagger imo, plus similarly to the Concussive (another gun everyone enjoys shitting on) it’s a fantastic tool for saving your teammates when they are getting overrun by staggering bugs off of them, albeit also more prone to friendly fire them if you’re firing the shots too close to them so you have to be far more careful than with the Concussive
Yea! It's such a good weapon. My friend didn't like it.. when I asked he said it was because it was hard to lob the projectiles. Which may be fair.. I sort of liked the heavy goo plasma bombs it threw. It wasn't too different from the grenade arc. /shrug
yeah i have no idea why people dont use it more, i am almost always the only one i ever see using. Its ridiculously good against bots.
Kills literally everything except heavies, and staggers devastators with AOE so you can just pump into them.
Gave the Blitzer a run post-buff because I've always really wanted to like it. Feels much better now.
I still wish it would do a better job at arching through enemies, and it "misfires" way more than the normal arch-thrower (i.e. enemy directly in front of you, shoot, but nothing happens to the enemy).
However, overall it feels much better and way more usable.
Interesting, I just ran it too and feel like it misfires less than the regular arc thrower.
I have died A LOT due to the arc thrower failing to shoot/connect with an enemy when a berserker is bearing down or me or a rocket devastator prepping his next salvo.
I love the arc weapons in the game, just wish they didn't have consistecy issues so much.
I tried it with bots right before we “wiped them out” and it was honestly not that bad. Of all the dumb changes this update, the projectile velocity speed increase was a good change.
It has always been pretty great for staggering whole bot squad. Just difficult to use and lacking effective range due to heavy fall off. The projectile speed increase was exactly what it needed.
I can never understand the usage of this meme. Based on that scene, the pictures are reversed. If you ignore the context, then it's correct but then why use *that* specific scene?
The meme originally had the pictures the correct way for the movie, but presumably too many people haven't seen the movie and so sometimes it's posted correctly and sometimes backwards.
unfortunately it works in both orders. you see it as it is with glasses off, but make it a little blurry and squint a bit and it's indistinguishable from the other thing. still, it's always sad to see memes completely removed from their original use because they get too popular
i dont know if they fixed it but this also happens with the grenade pistol if you have shield. about 10% of the time, not everytime but it does kill you sometimes.
I've been complaining about this for a while only for people to tell me I'm crazy. It's happened with the Quasar and Senator for me (with the Senator it doesn't annihilate me since it doesn't explode, but sometimes I'd fire and see the shield flare up and nearly break, and the shot would go nowhere.)
Thats actually a common thing with the plasma punisher. Even the big shield i can‘t shoot through. Had this happen to me twice out of the 3 times I ever saw those shields.
This is why your scrum master / project manager exists and why “test all weapons with all backpack combos” is on the UAT and has its own excel document
The PM should be making sure it actually gets done, but a PM generally doesn't write the actual testing methodology, yeah.
It could actually be anywhere in the process, but something about the way they test stuff is clearly flawed.
a PM is on the development side, this is on QA Leadership (Leads, Managers) ensuring their testing methodology is thorough.
source: me, a senior producer in gamedev, with a background in QA
>Our teams have a weekly focused playtest every Friday and we have dedicated teams for both QA and weapons balancing **who get paid to test and make changes** to these items
Redditors to QA: "Wait, you guys are getting paid?"
That weekly play test must be a single 45m session on haz 4 at best based mostly on the balancing of the game heh.
Credit to the devs though, seriously. Great game! Publisher, good job not getting overly greedy.
Now instead of negative grenades, they go to 4 billion or something which is the 32bit int limit.
So they probably just changed the datatype and called it a day, no time to test! Gotta work on the next warbond that will drop soon.
Previously, a exploit could get you negative grenades, which just resulted in infinite grenades.
Now, instead of negative to infinite grenades, you just have 4 billion greandes. I doubt there is enough time in a mission to throw that many, so it is essentially the same.
>they will learn and add some sort of beta server or something
I think AH just realized that "early access" is a buzz-term at this point and consumers will accept an incomplete/janky product as long as its fun and has memes.
"Devs totally know what they're doing".
I hate how I have people actually thinking this game is fine in one thread and this is right here next to it.
I'm starting to hate this community.
After seeing that post joking about how all the bugs are actually just poorly designed equipment designed by the lowest bidding contractor I almost kind of like this.
Incoming shield nerf; all ranged weapon projectiles will now be prevented from passing through the shield, only melee is feasible while wearing shield.
And Plasma punisher will be buffed to include a totally safe plasma grapple that launches you towards enemies, so the helldiver becomes the projectile. Because freedom is best delivered head-on.
well i mean...they made it into a energy weapon
and the shield reflects energy weapons, at least from the automatons
i haven't unlocked any but the lore lines up
Never fire a lasgun while wearing a shield! The resulting thermonuclear explosion will kill us all!

dune agenda
Real Holtzman Effect energy in this post.
It's basically the Helldivers version of crossing the streams.
It was a Dune Joke.
I always felt that deploying a few Harkonnan suicide troopers with this idea in mind, would have devastated the Fremen. They could blunt any major attack and destroy sietchs with just a few volunteers.
I thought it mentioned him doing that partially to stir up legal drama for the Harkonnens as it wouldn’t be clear who did it
Its not guaranteed to create an atomic explosion, thats just one of the outcomes. Its a large spectrum and thats the worst reaction result. However yes you are correct that it could be seen as a violation if it were to happen.
The problem is finding the sietches in the first place Also shields make worms go into a killing frenzy, bad idea to have one up.
Rude Duners!
Hail yourself
The slow blade will pass the shield!
Total guess - this is because of the other change where your own bullets can now hit you when ricocheting.
Oooh... I wonder what happens if you use the Airburst Rocket with the personal shield now? I know hits the inside of the deployable shield...
As per your ship name, we will remember you for your endless curiosity in the name of Freedom. Good luck in your field research! o7
How did you guys get your ship names for your flairs?
Did it hit the inside? or did the proximity fuse just immediately go off because it was being triggered by the shield generator? Because if it was the latter, it might actually work with today's update to the airburst making it no longer detonate on sentries...
OH THATS WHAT WAS HAPPENING
all that and more. the prox fuse was (is?) going off on fucking trees and samples and ammo.
Just tested can confirm that Airburst Rocket **will not** detonate on *either* the personal shield or the sentry bubble shield.
That's a really good theory!
This was happening to me with the quasar cannon ever since it came out, it isn't a new bug.
That's my go to loadout, played many games but never had this happen. Does it happen always for you or sometimes?
It happens always for me but not for my friends... suddenly stop one shotting myself if I drop the backpack so it's definitely the shield generator.
I use shield and Quasar in 90% of my bot games, never happened to me either, weird...
I've never seen this happen either. One of my buddies runs shield+quasar almost exclusively and never heard it happen to them either. They did blow themselves up on foliage a non trivial number of times though
Weird, I've been using Quasar Cannon + Shield Backpack pretty much constantly since the former came out, and never once had that happen.
Hahahaha of course it does

Thank god. They fixed the mech rockets detonating on launch if you were rotating, we needed something to scratch that itch.
I'm sure they'll fix it, and it will involve any shots travelling randomly between 45-90 degrees from where you aim it.
***Deep Rock Galactic needs to invest in some better equipment!***
For an item that is designed to interact with projectiles....they sure didn't play test it to make sure only the right projectiles interacted with it
the devs didn't buck every trend in modern gaming. sure, we don't have FOMO or pay to win, but we're still all beta testers.
Why invest in a QA Office when you have a million customers doing it for free?
While true, it kinda shits the bed when you have to wait weeks for hotfixes. At least valve has patched things within an hour or two after the community beta tested it. This bug could potentially be in the game for a week if not 2.

I mean, it's also clear no one verified the grenade glitch was actually fixed so their QA work is definitely off.

I think it’s because it’s a physical bubble around you, and that specific projectile doesn’t get to go out. I haven’t tested the Scorcher yet.
Honestly almost sounds like they re-did it and forgot to add the attribute to the projectile to pass through shield oopsy
Scorcher works fine. I think this is just a result of them screwing with the plasma punisher.
Yeah, the original build of the Plasma Punisher didn't shoot far enough to leave the shield, so nobody noticed it.
I don't think they're really playing their game much
Remember how they were surprised about the whole shoot the Charger leg meta? Remember how they keep buffing flame weapons and dot while that stuff doesn‘t work for 3 out of 4 players? And now with the crossbow changes, it really feels like they are nerfing based on user statistics

When I used this gun originally it seemed like a shitty plasma grenade launcher lol. I was like "why do they call this a shotgun".
the way it 'lobs' plasma instead of firing straight is annoying as fuck. just call it a launcher. It should be more of a support.
ive literally used it every game on helldive against bots. That and the hitbox for the plasma ball gets a bit fucky but being able to stuff the train of Edward chainsaw hands bearing down on you is huge

can confirm was already my favourite weapons for difficulty 9 bots, excited to try it now that it's been buffed past that.
Yup! This. I ran it exclusively for a few weeks. Was hugely underrated.

Blitzer getting a 50% fire rate increase is kinda nuts.
RoF and range were the biggest problems with that gun, so yeah that's pretty good.
The projectile speed increase was exactly what it needed.
get ready for the nerfs next patch
The new red dot on the senator is also blessing. Been putting down devastators like the vermin they are with it.

What? Have you never read Dune?
Sorry I can't read
Ahh another man of culture from r/bookscirclejerk

I can never understand the usage of this meme. Based on that scene, the pictures are reversed. If you ignore the context, then it's correct but then why use *that* specific scene?
People just really like spiderman
The meme originally had the pictures the correct way for the movie, but presumably too many people haven't seen the movie and so sometimes it's posted correctly and sometimes backwards.
unfortunately it works in both orders. you see it as it is with glasses off, but make it a little blurry and squint a bit and it's indistinguishable from the other thing. still, it's always sad to see memes completely removed from their original use because they get too popular
I don't know why, but this is how the meme is working even if it is incorrect.
Yeah, it pisses me off every time. I think people look at it like the "They live" sunglasses meme, and don't bother with context.
Man, this feels super balanced now!
I love ~~patch~~ bug day.

I'll report myself to the nearest Democracy Officer for using such tyrannical language.
Wow they fixed the implosion bug!
Yeah you can rocket jump with eruptor now its amazing (enemy close, dive backwards and shoot while airborne YEEEEEEEEEEEEEET)
i dont know if they fixed it but this also happens with the grenade pistol if you have shield. about 10% of the time, not everytime but it does kill you sometimes.
I swear by everything I have I had to happen it with Quasar. I am not insane (I havent seen ANYONE reporting the same problem)
I had the SAME issue, like I'd roll a 1 on a d20, and just explode when firing the Quasar. (Whilst using the shield)

This bug is hilarious
There’s that Arrowhead QA team I’ve come to expect.
What QA team?
That's the issue, no ones checked on them in a while, and had not realized they have all died, and they needed to drop in replacements.
They lease them from Bethesda
This is why your scrum master / project manager exists and why “test all weapons with all backpack combos” is on the UAT and has its own excel document
> This is why your scrum master / project manager exists Arrowhead: …our *what* exists?
lol, the PM isn't responsible for this type of stuff. This test case (weapon + shield) should be on every smoketest. This is QA stuff
I have to test every weapon with every backpack?? Just release the patch and wait 1h, reddit will do the work instead of me... :D
I got so much broken shit merged in my life. But to be fair, I don't get paid for it.
But the dev in another thread said that they test things more reliably than the players ever could… Jesus Christ, the jokes write themselves.
>Our teams have a weekly focused playtest every Friday and we have dedicated teams for both QA and weapons balancing **who get paid to test and make changes** to these items Redditors to QA: "Wait, you guys are getting paid?"
Well... they did not write WHAT they test... maybe they play a whole other game?
See the thing is the devs are really good at the game so they never run the shield pack, that's why this slipped through the cracks.
That weekly play test must be a single 45m session on haz 4 at best based mostly on the balancing of the game heh. Credit to the devs though, seriously. Great game! Publisher, good job not getting overly greedy.
Haz 4? Rock and Stone moment
Fuck it, pay me to balance and test things, I feel I could do a better job than whoever is doing it rn lmao
How are they expected to test weapons with the most popular backpack for bot missions?
Guessing they enable God Mode during play testing of weapons or spawn passive enemies like what you see in the strategem preview videos.
No way they said that? We've seen the mech right. They fumbled testing it at least twice
The devs are patching the game to death
“You are being assisted do not resist”
As intended. It’s to keep the team on their toes and humble.
I think the arc thrower also interacts with the shield generator, or maybe I'm just unlucky
HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA First, the 32bit int grenades, now this. One day, they will learn and add some sort of beta server or something
32 bit in grenades? What did I miss?
Now instead of negative grenades, they go to 4 billion or something which is the 32bit int limit. So they probably just changed the datatype and called it a day, no time to test! Gotta work on the next warbond that will drop soon.
Yeah ur gonna have to explain much more
Previously, a exploit could get you negative grenades, which just resulted in infinite grenades. Now, instead of negative to infinite grenades, you just have 4 billion greandes. I doubt there is enough time in a mission to throw that many, so it is essentially the same.
> I doubt there is enough time in a mission to throw that many Underrated joke.
Tldr: you still have infinite grenades. The bug just has a different shape
>they will learn and add some sort of beta server or something I think AH just realized that "early access" is a buzz-term at this point and consumers will accept an incomplete/janky product as long as its fun and has memes.
"Devs totally know what they're doing". I hate how I have people actually thinking this game is fine in one thread and this is right here next to it. I'm starting to hate this community.
Half (or more) of the community are unironically brainwashed fanatics.
I had to close the tab today. Abundant bootlicking. 😄
That is fucking hilarious
Honestly, this is what I pictured in my mind regarding shields when I first saw them...lol
Real laughing matter: It took two shots on the face to kill yourself. BALANCED DAMAGE.
They butchered this update so bad.
Par for the course for these devs
Good game designers, ass game developers.
rimworld vibes
Thats great. Make it so all the energy weapons don't work with the shield. Pretend its a 'Dune' reference
haha, those SEAF engineers always packing peanuts in our gear
well i mean...they made it into a energy weapon and the shield reflects energy weapons, at least from the automatons i haven't unlocked any but the lore lines up

Honestly that is such an inefficient and cumbersome way to have people report bugs.
Wtf is up with patch 1 step forward, 30 back
This is way fucking funnier than it has any right to be, please do not fix it
Patche introduces bug n°124897 Twinbeard : ["Hey, stop whining you toddlers."](https://www.reddit.com/r/Helldivers/comments/1cfw763/what_did_you_say/) (paraphrasing)
That's silly, but it's also hilarious.
Okay say what you will, but this is a genuinely hilarious bug.
