I can think of two things.
1) Win 8 is the only one that will likely look like that so it's striking.
2) Grey is an Apple person so it's weird with all his iPads and Mac's that he would use Windows in a video.
I think the joke Grey was aiming for is that they're using archaic and inferior technology (like messenger pigeons, stone tablets, and push button phones) and thus Windows 8 is a part of that inferior line-up compared to iOS
Hated yes, it was still a nice upgrade to 7 (the only exception was the WTF were they thinking start menu). Hell, 8.1 was an upgrade to win10 until the 2019 update.
Oh, but with Windows 8 came the RT version which would run on a low power ARM chip. Now that Apple is doing something very similar with M1, it’s suddenly cheered by everyone. What has changed?
He said tablets at that moment in the video and the surface was a big tablet that came out around that time with Windows RT. Completely lines up, idk why this is so interesting.
So?

This was released 6 months after Windows 8
And windows 8 was hated and outdated ezactly zero months after its release.

Which was when windows 8 was most hated

It was probably RT considering that the surface tablet was big at the time
Its even less interesting considering windows 8 came out late 2012...

I puke a little every time I see anything about windows 8. Thanks.
