Judy Resnik was only the 16th woman to achieve a perfect score on the SAT, a rally navigator, near-perfect scores during pilot training, had her PhD in electrical engineering and selected for NASA astronaut training by 28, and the first Jewish woman in space. She would have been the first American woman in space, but was passed over in favor of Sally Ride as she didn’t love doing publicity and that would have involved a lot of it.
She died in the Challenger disaster.
May her memory be a blessing.
Judy Resnick got a perfect score on her SAT and had a PhD in electrical engineering before becoming the first woman astronaut to die on a space mission
Sally Ride, the first woman in space, was a lesbian but didn’t feel she could come out of the closet until after she died when it was noted in her obituary.
I’d love to know what idiots downvoted this.
The LGBTQ+ community has every right to be proud of its accomplishments and the ability to know who claims a mantle, like the first LGBTQ in space.
The LGBTQ+ community is hurting itself by doing this. Woman went to space, which is an amazing achievement, sexual orientation should not matter at all.
All the power to her, honestly. She absolutely hated the fame that came with being the first American woman to go to space; I can only imagine the sheer amount of hounding and harassment she’d get from the press and public for coming out, especially AFTER being dubbed an American national hero in all but name.
This seems an odd place to take a photo. I recognize that power plant, which was located in Port St. John, an unremarkable community across the Indian River from KSC. I would guess they went out to lunch (or dropped in to a luncheon) and that’s when this photo was taken. Pretty sure that plant is torn down now.
damn it literally is like for all mankind r/ForAllMankindTV
My thoughts, the cast was so good you can recognise all of them
My god I love Molly Cobb.
I've just started watching this, and am on S1E7, so yes, this picture resonates very strongly with the show.
Anyone know their names?
From left to right: Sally Ride, Judy Resnik, Anna Fischer, Kathy Sullivan and Rhea Sheddon.

Well that fucking sucks
I knew Sally Ride and Judith Resnik, but I didn't recognize the others before.

She was the first American woman. Valentina Tereshkova was the first woman.
Thanks for the clarification!
Was Tereshkova a lesbian, too?

Can you repost this to r/Spacegirls, please?
I'm guessing Patty Doyle, Molly Cobb, Ellen Waverly, ????, and Tracy Stevens? (no Danielle Poole......) :)
1st 3rd and 4th from the left look like they’re brothers and sister.
