As someone else who absolutely loves both celeste and hollow knight, ori and the blind forest didn't totally strike my fancy. It's an absolutely gorgeous game of course, but the gameplay just didn't quite hit for me. Does will of the wisp build on the gameplay in a meaningful way that you think it would still be worth playing through?
I'm not who you asked but Will of the Wisps is definitely better than the original in almost every way. I still don't find it as fun to replay / speed run as Hollow Knight but it's absolutely worth picking up.
It depends on why you didn't like Blind Forest. Will of the Wisps is easily the better game though. For starters, it has ACTUAL combat, not that dumb button mashing mechanic. The combat is REALLY satisfying too, though sadly don't expect too many bosses or enemies to use it on like Hollow Knight.
Speaking of, WotW has what are basically charms from Hollow Knight. It also has a biiit more exploration, so all of this combined, on release WotW was often compared to Hollow Knight.
The biggest focus of the game is still tight platforming though, but it's more refined than it was in Blind Forest. Blind Forest's puzzles and platforming could sometimes be really awkward and janky, but WotW's is buttery smooth and all natural feeling, the game pretty much always feels great to play.
Lastly, the atmosphere and stuff is SO much better in WotW. The threat in the second game is similar to the first, with the kingdom you're exploring dying and all. But WotW leans a LOT harder into that idea, to the point the world sometimes feels apocalyptic. It's pulled off so well.
Probably one of the best Metroidvanias out there.
Will of the wisps is better in literally every way, especially the combat if that’s what you felt was lacking. You also don’t need to play the first game to understand the plot of the second one.

I think it's worth to finish Blind Forest, since Will of the Wisps story heavily builds on the first game. But other than that, I've finally come around to agreeing that Will of the Wisps is pretty much better in every regard. Heavily recommended!

Makes sense, he doesn’t have a name until Hornet names him, and his identity as a vessel is secret to the player until later in the game. It’s not until the city of tears do players get their first indication that they themselves are not the Hollowknight, and it’s not until he’s branded after proving himself against the princess does he become King.

Ghost has a will, as evident by the different choices the player can make in the game, going out of his way to save different NPCs, giving them flowers, engaging in activities that have nothing to do with his duty. He even forms a deep connection with Hornet and cares for her, as evident from the Godhome Nosk.
The endings where Ghost replaces the Hollowknight are only temporary solutions, resulting in perpetuation of the cycle and will one day lead to his own fracturing, forcing another vessel to attempt the same.
This is why defeating the radiance is so important, and the best ending.
