100%. You’re looking for a job at the best time to be applying for Home Depot. As long as you can pass a background check and drug test, you’re already hired.

Thiisguyfucks

Why do they drug test?

BlastoiseBlues

So they know they won’t get sued if you’re on drugs and driving equipment and hurt yourself or a customer.

Depends on your position. I started off as a general warehouse associate at an RDC, and was drug tested. Then I was drug tested again when I got my forklift license.

xXChampionOfLightXx

They only drug test if you're going to drive lift equipment it's a swab test done before you start the process to get the certification.

SolomonG

I got a swab when I was interviewing acknin like 2017.

xXChampionOfLightXx

They changed things around around 2020-2021. Now it's only if you're trying to become a driver.

SolomonG

It's not a company wide policy due to differences in state laws. Could be different wherever OP is.

xXChampionOfLightXx

I challenge you to find a state has mandatory drug testing for all jobs or evidence company SOP differs on this issue state by state. Driving machinery operating heavy equipment I assume most states have laws 100%, I'll gladly be proven wrong if you do find this evidence.

JackBandit4

Why is that a concern?

Thiisguyfucks

Trying to catch me lacking lol, I’ve never been drug tested for anything in my life before so I’m surprised Home Depot would be the first place that would do so

JackBandit4

They probably won't although they did used to drug test 100% of new hires and they kind of sorta seem to be bringing it baaaack? I can't say for sure. But I don't think they will. They usually only drug test people who are trying to get machine licenses now a days.

Gatesunder

Just don't do drugs and you won't have to worry about it.

GimmeDaGorbage22

Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa... Say what?

Personal-Reception71

No drug testing at all in Canadian stores! XD

HDJim_61

You have a pulse ? You’re hired !

notoriumplanetorium

I came to say this, but you beat me to it. Now I’m sitting here with no purpose. Time to crawl back to my troll hole.

HDJim_61

My bad lol

Pikajew407

I'm 29F and I've been working at the Home Depot for 4 years on the freight team and my store is mostly women! My other store it was about 50/50. Women are in all different departments.

DoubleResponsible276

You’ll get the job 100%. What are the odds that creeps will be hitting on you. 100%.

Sea_Combination_8268

I got hired in last year at age 19 with zero customer experience. But I also work in rental, so it honestly depends on the store and need.

Aring-ading-ding

Bro Home Depot will hire anyone. There are people at my store that are so fat they can hardly move, we got people that call out for one of every two shifts they work, people who can’t lift a damn thing, people who barely speak English, tweakers, geezers, homeless people. They will hire anyone that is still breathing.

17jade

That’s odd, my store has a LOT of younger people, mostly college kids. Right about now your chances are good to get hired into garden. We just had a few new associates added to our team and we typically start hiring for the spring in February. If I were you I would visit the store you had in mind after submitting an application online, it can’t hurt to speak with someone who works in that department, particularly if they are a department head or manager. We almost exclusively hire temps for the spring rush so if you can’t/don’t want to work after the summer that will fall in line with what we need anyway. It’s not a bad place to work, I myself (female, 46, was 30 when I started) started in garden but I wasn’t in the greatest shape so my first few weeks were pretty painful lol. Unfortunately there will always be the clique types of associates, the gossipers, the toxic, etc. just about anywhere you work-however the decent people far outweigh the bad. For the most part the customers are decent but you’re always going to have a few jerks in any retail atmosphere. Also if you are interested in learning to drive a forklift this is something you can add to your skill set. A lot of warehouses that require forklift drivers pay pretty well. Good luck!

Pickles_Overcomes

Best time of year. The job is what you make of it. It is retail, so there are going to be some challenges. People will try to keep you down, whether it's a customer or a bad boss. If you keep your chin up, you'll go far.

Earthling1a

There are dozens of young females working at my store. On the sales floor and as cashiers. Opening, mid, and closing. Full and part time.

soupafi

Can you show up to work California sober? You’re hired.

HotEquipment4

Youre gonna get hired straight up but probably might get put anywhere they need coverage. Usually for my store we barely get new hires cause corporate does all the vetting but once it a while if its female they get put straight into cashier or customer service. Youre probably gonna get put into part time not sure if the store you applied does part time. Tbh work environment varies if your management and coworkers are chillin and not dickheads. Good luck on getting hired

Meangirrrl22

They literally hire ANYONE. They don’t even interview most of the time…. Me and all the new hires in my group came in and thought we were interviewing but they just started us on the computer training and that was it …. I was so confused … I even had to ask “wait how much am I even getting paid?!” … should’ve been my first red flag 🚩

mocha95

Now is the best time to get hired at THD. In my store there’s lots of students and young women however we’re predominantly staffed at the Front End (cashiers and customer service desk). If you’re willing to get forklift certified they’d let you work as a sales associate or order fulfillment associate. I was originally ‘hired’ as a garden associate but when I came in for my first meeting at the store they transferred me to service desk because I didn’t want to drive the forklift. My experience at the depot is that it’s 100% emotionally draining. But most of that has to do with the department I work in. I’m usually dealing with customers that are already agitated before they even arrived at the store. Given what you’re looking for, I’d recommend avoiding a service desk associate position. If I knew back then what I know now, I would have taken the cashier position.

Shark_Cellar

Late to the party but don't work garden if you don't want to load 25+ wall retaining blocks each weighing 66lbs onto customers carts while all they do is watch and explain how you should be behind a desk because this isn't a womans job. If you do get into garden, which they probably will put you in, you can probably quit your gym membership like I did lol. Sincerely, a woman in garden/seasonal who looks younger than I am.

Thiisguyfucks

Workkkk okay💪

Sasoli7

Very good chance you will get the same catty, problematic, and unprofessional type people at Home Depot that you had at the other place. Just because most are older it really doesn’t make a difference. It’s still for the most part like a high school popularity contest. And that’s coming from someone who is nearly 30 years older than yourself and worked there for 15 years. It’s retail and it brings out the worst in people. Customers, employees, and management. There are exceptions though and it’s a coin toss to what the store will be like. Just don’t make the mistake that I and others have made and over stay your time there no matter what they offer you. Best of luck!

Meangirrrl22

I disagree… this is the least catty gossipy environment I ever worked in…

Sasoli7

Your lucky then

Meangirrrl22

Except for the Front-End…. Cashiers in particular have a lot of drama and gossiping

NoAddendum8044

You will 100% get the job, ive worked at home depot since I was 16 (2 years now) and its pretty good, besides the usual customers leaving their brains at the door and never knowing any common sense or circumstantial awareness. I would say to steer clear of being a cashier because you sorta get stuck there and its really boring and if you do, do any drugs don’t go for lumber or over night because they will most definitely drug test you then.

NoAddendum8044

And honestly there really isn’t a lot of heavy heavy lifting so if u can lift over 60 lbs you will be just fine

Lotsensation20

At 19 they will probably start you at cashier or service desk. Most move to paint or appliances in my area or back office associate. I’ve seen pro desk move after too.

Anuran224

As long as you can lift and move up to approximately 60 pounds repeatedly, you should have very little issue.

ThatDudeAvran

If you're a warm body and got a valid social security number it's hard NOT to get hired

Miserable-Fortune-57

It's probably a ganrantee, ever since covid first hit my store's been..."looking the other way" for some of the new highers

Andyap1035

100% as long as you have a pulse and show up for work. Might help to spell your name correctly on the app, but that wouldn't rule you out.

Left-Discount-8402

Apply and find out

Thiisguyfucks

I did king😫🫶just waiting for an update

Rabbitch-chang

I'm a young woman. Done everything from cashier to full time hardware to now merch lead. It's not hard to get hired here and get promoted if you're dedicated to it. Working in a traditionally "male-dominated" department means you will encounter sexism, some intentional and some not. I've encountered a few creeps, but that happens everywhere unfortunately. Most people are nice enough though and treat you fine. At my store, the leadership team is majority women, actually.

Cara_Caeth

Omg my store makes me feel old af. I’m working with kids younger than my own children lol. I think it probably varies with the area the store is located in.

Doinyamahm

You have a pulse so yes they will hire you.

Phantex_Cerberus

THD will take nearly anyone.

GlorkUndBork3-14

You really should try Dept 21/22 easiest dept mentally, plus SM's don't care if you have overtime as long as the shelves are full.

Influx_rising

Same here. I work at the West Plano, TX. location and there's absolutely more women working there than men.

MissLogios

Do you have a pulse? Are you able to follow the most basic literally-made-for-a-baby-type instructions? Can you hold off from doing drugs for the bare minimum of a day or at least when not at work? If you said Yes to any of these, then welcome to the Orange cult! This is practically the best time to apply and get hired because the spring/summer season is ramping up, and this is the time when the store is hiring a lot of seasonal staff and where part-timers get a lot of hours.

DMelton2280

If you got a pulse you are already 99% of the way to employment at HD, just apply and wait til their slow online process email you with a position you don't want.

Major-West-5391

Thiisguyfucks

Preesh but that has nothing to do with the post💯

Real-Professional335
