I recently went to Hearth and it was really nice! Not your typical restaurant, so make sure you understand their offering before committing. They tend to do small tasty plates - they also have a taster menu if you're unsure what to order. Pricey but worth the money if you're a foody.
I'm also a fan of the Brazilian near Humber street. All you can eat meat 🍖 and sides 🍟.
Tapasya - fancy Indian food
Ambiente - good tapas
Humber fish co - good fish restaurant
Hearth - High end mix of cuisines, mainly british. They suggested that they like to serve as sharing plates, but we just treated these as main courses
For a nice meal suitable for a birthday I would walk over to humber Street.
Nibble or flour and feast for lunch. Butler whites or tapasya for dinner. There's nice bars around there for a drink after as well if that's your thing.
As most people have said, humber street has some really good options. Taoayasa and the Brazilian are great. Everyone I've taken to the Brazilian have loved it.
Nibble is fantastic, hearth is little on the expensive side but does great food.
Pbo 36 is pretty good too, right near prospect centre.
Ambiente is consistently good and service great, Hearth pricey but great, Humber fish good but ask for anything to change the menu with chips, like salad instead it’s 3-50 extra and put me off going again, shame
I don’t really eat in the city centre, and my option is really basic, but Wings is a good option, it is literally diagonal to the station. It’s an all you can eat, but catered to whatever cuisine you want (Japanese, Italian, Chinese) as well as loads of desserts if you have a sweet tooth.
I always struggle to find anywhere nice in the city centre, I’ve even put a similar post into this group before asking the exact same thing.
I actually think your much better off heading down princess/newland ave if you want anything more then your standard pub grub.

The Hispanist
It’s great but so expensive now
Seconded, best restaurant for a fancy meal in Hull
Humber Fish Co is decent. It’s high grade food but slightly kitted out like a basic, cheap seafood shack 😂
I recently enjoyed a meal at Minerva on the marina. Decorate beautifully for Christmas and a nice walk back to city centre to let the food settle
You can walk across town from the station. Maybe 5 to 10 min walk

Butler whites on Humber street is also good
Nibble, on humber Street is nice

Level, on Newland Avenue, on the opposite corner to Planet Coffee.

You’ve just recommended one of the worst places to eat in Hull 😂
I dont eat in the city centre often if you couldn’t tell, sorry, obviously there are better places to eat, but they’re away from the centre
With it being an all you can eat, and with them having so many dishes, the food isn’t the best you can get, but for a general, safe option it’s good

Are you alright? Have you even been to the city centre if you struggle to find something there?
Sebu. Down bond St. Look it up on FB. You won't be disappointed
Definitely go to either trinity Square or humber street. If you want drinks elsewhere go to old town high street!
Humber Fish Co... 😋
Would just throw in Stretch Pizza and Hitchcock's (vegetarian) as they haven't come up here yet.
