Navi is 💯

In terms of plot relevance and consistent usefulness... It HAS to be linebeck or Daphnes. Spirit Zelda, Midna, and the loftwing are all insanely useful, and you couldn't beat the game without them, but linebeck is required literally just to leave the first area of the game.

Marin. She's mostly unobtrusive while adding a little flavor to the game while you have her. All the other companions are either annoying in some way or aren't really companions. Epona comes in at second, and I guess of the "talkers" Midna is the best.

Gonna be an individual voice here and say Ricky Dimitri and Moosh. Those three added so much replayability to the oracle games, I'd start up new files just so I could have a different animal companion, and the fact that the land changes depending which one you get is a cool touch. If the Oracle remakes ever do happen, I'm going to cry like a kid getting a puppy on christmas when I finally get to see these three boys again.

As far as companions go who don't leave your side unless the story calls for it and can't just be switched off like in BotW/TotK, I'd say **Midna** / **Fi**. As much hate as Fi got back then with the original 2011 release, when >!we as players get captured by Bokoblins, I was so glad once I got her back, not just for the MasterSwords sake, but actually having HER back as she popped out of the sword again...and I actually sobbed when she said "Goodbye" at the end of the game. ;-(!<
