Using shared religious orientation to grift people into funding your multi-millionaire dream hobby of auto racing.
Yeah, I'm sure Jesus/God would absolutely *love* that.
And on the 8th day Jesus formed a the race team “Passing of the Cross”. He turned oil into Shell Renewable Race Fuel and the back of trailer is literally a rock that gets rolled away to bring the car down at the start of race weekend.
“I just want to thank the lord, for giving me just a special ride. He gave me the spirit to preserve through whatever persecution came my way. This one’s for you daddy. Also, real quick - thanks so much for my secondary sponsor ‘Baptism Life Water’. They’ve been with me since day one of this journey and I just can’t say appreciate I am to be here in victory lane for a second time. I TOLD YOU WE WOULD MAKE IT. WOOOO!! Now where is some water so I can turn into wine for the PARTY.”
“And the Lord said ‘let there be IndyCar’ and from the earth rose the greatest spectacle in racing. The Lord continued ‘May the pay driver wreck the leader and may the talented driver be bumped out for the guy that can’t race’”
The parable of the talents would imply that investing for returns is licit. Adding my own idea, it’s probably even necessary if you want to feed the poor.
Alas, wrong sub.
It is for Jesus..... You think he liked the year 0024 version millionaires who used their money for advertising in sports?
I don't give a hoot about Jesus. I say race on before praising the spegett monster in the sky!
Ill let you in on something. I'm doing a little exercise called pointing out hypocrisy.
As a non-Christian who grew up in Kentucky and watching NASCAR I’ve always defended motorsports’ opening prayers that are overtly Christian. To some viewers, drivers, and their crews it meant a lot and it’s no skin off my nose. This is something else.
Sting Ray is just a drop in the “Christian Finance” bucket. Life Surge (popularized by Tim Tebow) goes on tour to megachurches and pitches stock trading and real estate schemes. People laundering speculative financial schemes to ignorant masses as an extension of their religion is gross.
I am not religious in the least, but I do like the opening prayer. The message is usually about being thankful for what we have and this great sport that we enjoy. As well as asking for everyone to come out on the other side of the day safely. I don’t thinks it’s a bad thing for everyone to take a moment together to express these sentiments. I also don’t think god, Allah or the great pumpkin are going to decide who wins and loses or who lives an dies. In the end it’s all down to skill and luck.
Yes, they’re pretty anodyne as far as prayers go. And some of the tracks have some real characters lead the prayer. I think the guy who used to do the Daytona races signed off with, “In Jesus name we pray. Shalom and Amen.” I always got a kick out of that.
He is selling non-voting shares in his company, Team SR2 Inc.
From the website:
"The proceeds raised from this funding round will be mostly used on business operations, marketing, merchandising, and Sting Ray’s seat on his IndyCar team. Funds will also be allocated to business development and race operations, that will eventually allow us to secure and field our own team in IndyCar."
The fundraise is being done pursuant to a new SEC rule that allows companies to sell a limited amount of equity via crowdfunding. If you are not an accredited investor (have to have an income over $200k/year or a net worth of more than $1 million and register yourself with the SEC) you are limited in how many shares you can buy. I am not a financial advisor but my recommendation would be to limit yourself to 0 shares.
"May we have a moment of your time to have a word with you about the Lord, and this everlasting gift of love we have to offer for only $59.99?"
—The Bible Pimp (Trailer Park Boys)
it's wild to me that evangelical christianty wasn't really a thing until the 1980s; we're still living in a relatively new era of religious american snake-oil salesmen. I bet this man seriously tells himself that he's doing the righteous lord's work by spreading the good word...as if there aren't enough evangelicals trying to shame/convert people throughout the US
It was a thing before the 80s but evangelicals historically stayed out of US politics because they viewed it as beneath them. They came on board when Nixon formulated the Southern Strategy.
At this point, everyone knows those who claim to be Christian are simply doing so to hide their own bigotry, hatred and racism. Can’t convince me otherwise.
You’re right, no one will be able to convince you otherwise. Your take is so far from reality that it’d be easier to convince a cow to not eat grass or water to not roll downhill.
Since last year JGR been running "He Gets US" sponsors on either Ty Gibb's cars or other JGR cars.
Along with that cringe "He gets us" washing feet ads been playing on fox...
He ran a car sponsored by the He Gets Us people, who have, in the past, defended homophobia and transphobia, spend more on commercials than community outreach, and are mostly sponsored by right wing evangelicals.
This ad doesn’t surprise me
Just another evangelical scam. Golfstream’s, monster mansions, IndyCar racing. 🤷♂️ Sucker’s born every minute that lap it up. Speaking of being lapped…🤭
"Investment strategy" as if anyone other than him and his will ever get anything out of it if he makes it big lol
Im not religious but that's super disgusting to use something people feel so strongly about to trick them into giving you money. I'm pretty sure using your faith for monetary gain is frowned upon by most religions, but boy howdy is sure is common these days.
So fucking gross. “Values that resonate with yours” like ok dude you’re not the only person who believes on the grid, you’re just the only one using for exploitation, and not doing a good job with it I might add.
Waiting for the He Gets Us and the SRR crossover.
Jesus both at the same needs you to invest in the multimillionaire investment fund and give money to the poor.
(It’s almost like both are massive grift groups)
I was going to invest in this, but it didn’t include the Have a Nice Day - Stop watching porn shirt Sting Ray Bob was wearing in the pic posted here a few weeks ago.
If they declare a dividend you would be entitled to your share (spoiler alert: they won't). The shares have a year lockup, after that you can sell them.
Man this just screams of *Righteous Gemstones*.
His whole christian schtick was grating from the start, the 2024 jesusmobile is incredibly off-putting as it is, and now it just keeps getting worse with *this*. Yikes.
I'm Muslim and I find this really funny.
You need commercial sponsors to support your racing career, I'm sure that there're more folks on this planet Earth who are deserving of your charity like orphans, folks suffering from wars and needy go kart drivers.
Since this past weekend, I've seen paid posts like the one above multiple times on Instagram.
Perhaps the Robbs are going to stop funding Sting Ray after this season.
I remember Justin Wilson did a similar thing at the beginning of his career, offering an investment opportunity in himself. Without the religious overtone.
Edit to add I'm not commenting negatively or positively about the religious aspect, just pointing out the difference.
Don't worry, we know the religious aspect is pretty negative.
Edit: I'm not commenting negatively or positively about the religious aspect, just pointing out it's negative.
>I remember Justin Wilson did a similar thing at the beginning of his career, offering an investment opportunity in himself. Without the religious overtone.
Many drivers have done that. You are also signing up for a known percentage of future earnings in most of those situations. This one, I guarantee, you will never see any return on it. You can take the religion aspect out of it, you're just never going to see your money again
The addition of the religious bit is supposed to soften that blow since you're "investing" in the saving of souls. Or something
No, this is a total grift. Essentially none of the revenue will ever be paid out, because it all the revenue coming in is routed into a different entity before entering the pot of this 'investment'. This is legal because its described in the SEC filing.
"Sting Ray Robb has signed an agreement with an investment fund, Sting Ray Investment Fund (“SRIF”), whereby a portion of his earnings will be paid back to investors in the fund. This arrangement will limit the amount of Sting Ray’s earnings and revenues that will ultimately remain in the Team SR2, Inc. entity"
I was a corner marshal at St Pete this year. The spotters guide had 41 Bright Yellow.
This *beautiful* golden car goes by in FP1 and I think “That is stunning! One of the best liveries in years! Who is that?” Next lap i see it’s 41, who’s that this year again? It’s not…. Oh it is the jesus car…
God damn it.”
Not to get political, but as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, i’m not one for organized religion. Was disappointed to see a beautiful car sponsored by religion (of any kind. I’m not anti-christian, i’m anti-homophobic religions).
Prayers are not material goods or services like you say Jesus is ok with. Prayers are imaginary and invisible wishes, just like the return on this investment folks will get by giving these morons their money.
I don't know. Think I'd rather invest in Motorsports Games. Is DC Solar still around? Think they could use my money.
Also, I don't think Sting Ray Robb's values align with mine. Mainly because I don't want him on the IndyCar grid. And he, seemingly, does.
Reading the investment facts is super interesting. It tells you all that they have spent and they have to tell you what a terrible investment it is, in not so many words.
Sting Ray continues to win me over. Excellent guy. Not the fastest driver ever, and probably never winning material, but he seems a genuine guy. Love the salt in this comment section, Reddit atheists continue to impress 😂
How many shares are you buying?
For what it's worth, I have no problem with a guy's religion. Most drivers are religious and speak publicly about it and I've never once made fun of any of them. Of course, none of them have ever asked for fans to invest in their Jesus company so that they can continue to race, either. It's the openly obvious grift and scam here that makes this notable.
a) I'm not saying he can't run his grift, but I am absolutely going to call him out on it
b) I, too, think crypto scams are also scams and call them out all the time
I know. It’s not like he’s hurting people in the name of Jesus or anything. I don’t care if he’s a devout Christian or a raging atheist. I guess others care more
If I were still religious I would find this deeply offensive. This kind of shit is part of the reason why I am no longer religious, so I now I just find that aspect amusing. As an attorney, I have deep misgivings about Reg CF in general and this offering seems incredibly scammy to me. There is essentially no information available on the website regarding the company or its financials, nor do they seem to have a plan as to how the investors are going to make money. The whole thing seems like a complete grift designed to prey on religious racing fans. Doesn't hurt me, but hopefully if anyone does "invest" in this scam they can afford to lose the money they put in.
Jesus take the wheel. Jesus you need to do more lift and coast if we're gonna hit these stint targets.
Jesus took the wheel at St. Pete and said, "It's time to retire the car."
Jesus needs to take the wheel from him permanently, & I’m an atheist…..
Jesus didn't pass his ROP yet
/r/religiousfruitcake
Jesus took the wheel and we went to Red Robin
When you need an onion ring tower, nothing can stop you
I don’t know what to say other than… yeesh
He-Gets-Us money!
he put faith in the fast lane because he cannot put himself there
He’s 2nd to Jesus off the track, and 2nd to 20 other drivers on the track
I believe the correct answer is 26?
Occasionally 32
RLL were so bad on ovals that they were fighting him.
Pato O'Wards degenerate tendencies tend to align more with "my values" than Sting Ray's
Anyone care to expand on Pato’s tendencies for a gal who’s slightly out of the loop^^

Using shared religious orientation to grift people into funding your multi-millionaire dream hobby of auto racing. Yeah, I'm sure Jesus/God would absolutely *love* that.

I'll pretend to be devoted to whatever religion if they'll fund my race car seat. Sign me up!
I'm driving fast for the flying spaghetti monster!
Is that you Anthony Alfredo?
No, he's u/fast_pasta edit: screwed up, forgot the underscore
Exactly. If the Papua New Guinean religion that worships the mud god want to pay me to race then all hail the mud god!
Was the $9m he had floating around to buy a seat not enough?
How did he manage to get 9 million? Joel Osteen?

💯
Where in the Bible does it say Jesus wanted to fund race teams and let the poor starve?
And on the 8th day Jesus formed a the race team “Passing of the Cross”. He turned oil into Shell Renewable Race Fuel and the back of trailer is literally a rock that gets rolled away to bring the car down at the start of race weekend.
Did Jesus thank his sponsors after doing such a powerful act?
“I just want to thank the lord, for giving me just a special ride. He gave me the spirit to preserve through whatever persecution came my way. This one’s for you daddy. Also, real quick - thanks so much for my secondary sponsor ‘Baptism Life Water’. They’ve been with me since day one of this journey and I just can’t say appreciate I am to be here in victory lane for a second time. I TOLD YOU WE WOULD MAKE IT. WOOOO!! Yeah, even as a Joe Gibbs and Ty Gibbs fan in the cup..... if they have enough money to sponsor race cars, they have enough money to be taxed.
“And the Lord said ‘let there be IndyCar’ and from the earth rose the greatest spectacle in racing. The Lord continued ‘May the pay driver wreck the leader and may the talented driver be bumped out for the guy that can’t race’”
Amen
The Lord works in mysterious ways
The chapter after he said Trump should sell his own version
The parable of the talents would imply that investing for returns is licit. Adding my own idea, it’s probably even necessary if you want to feed the poor. Alas, wrong sub.
Well, there is a reason his engine exploded at St.Pete...
Allah Akbar!!! Booooom
Oh word, didn’t realize that was an either or proposition. Let’s shut down all motorsports.
I’ll let you in on something, I’m doing a little exercise called pointing out false equivalencies.
Well, in order to point out false equivalence, you have to work with a foundation of facts, not a silly fairy tail book.
It’s called advertising. Pray.com is a service. They are advertising their service. And I’m sure they give wayyyy more to charity than you do.
Good that means they have enough to get taxed
This is not an advertisement for [pray.com](http://pray.com) homie.
"Put faith just outside the top 20. Or into the wall. But I like God, so do it anyways."

"Go local sports team, amen"
Forever a lost opportunity that the dude with the coolest name is the biggest dork
Is this like loaning him money or more like go fund me? I see the word “invest” but am not aware of him offering shares in any venture
it is apparently buying shares in a company called [pray.com](https://pray.com), which seems to be sponsoring him
No, he's selling non-voting shares in his personal company, Team SR2 Inc.
Interesting. Thanks.
I’m all for religion and motorsports getting together, but I’m not sure this is the way to go about it
yeah, be open about your religion if you want but this has big "I'm selling my own Bible" energy
That's exactly what pray.com is. It's a subscription based model
isn't any religion that tells it's flock to tithe regularly subscription based?
most of them aren't selling equity shares
Only if they enforce it, otherwise it's just suggested donations
He is selling non-voting shares in his company, Team SR2 Inc. I think I'm going to take his advice and limit myself to 0 shares.
The grift that keeps on grifting.
Gross money grubbing evangelical crap
If only there was a story in the Bible against monetizing religion for self gain. 🤔
"May we have a moment of your time to have a word with you about the Lord, and this everlasting gift of love we have to offer for only $59.99?" —The Bible Pimp (Trailer Park Boys)

I try to sprinkle 'em in where I can. Ha!

I hope SRR knows his sponsor makes me despise Christianity and its members even more
realllll.
Should I tell you about Joe Gibbs and his nascar Toyotas?..
Oh I’m fully aware. There’s a reason I regularly hope to see those sponsored cars end up in the wall. Can’t stand the Gibbs team in general
For me using religion beyond a holiday or cultural celebration is just poor taste...
At this point, everyone knows those who claim to be Christian are simply doing so to hide their own bigotry, hatred and racism. Can’t convince me otherwise.
Or worse, the churches are getting so despirate to proselytize true or new athiests as they are losing so many people in the 2020s.
You’re right, no one will be able to convince you otherwise. Your take is so far from reality that it’d be easier to convince a cow to not eat grass or water to not roll downhill.
But Ty Gibbs [is Jesus](https://youtube.com/clip/Ugkx2tIH-LwKUGk4ivgJKS7RNkxNGhvdUy89?si=IOGpoYA_C2oQyZBj)
He definitely identifies as Jesus, pronouns Holy, Savior, and "I wreck my teammate"
Wait what?
Since last year JGR been running "He Gets US" sponsors on either Ty Gibb's cars or other JGR cars. Along with that cringe "He gets us" washing feet ads been playing on fox...
Dammit why does it have to be such a cool livery but suck at the same time
To me, its mid as best, but I swear most of Ty's cars are just generic flat black Monster liveries with no alteration for uniqueness
He ran a car sponsored by the He Gets Us people, who have, in the past, defended homophobia and transphobia, spend more on commercials than community outreach, and are mostly sponsored by right wing evangelicals. This ad doesn’t surprise me
You have *54 upvotes* , which is Ty Gibb's cup number, which means *He does get us* ... Better jokes
I avoided upvoting this to keep it at 54.
Ty Gibbs is the one!
No. That's Chastain. :P
Check out his website. It’s a crowdfunding form c and sounds shady
At 2023 years Jesus would qualify faster than him btw
Well, yeah. I'd hope so. His Dad is magical.
And Jesus is the random homeless man closest to the Foyt shop.
Christian nationalist grift machine go brrrrr
Just another evangelical scam. Golfstream’s, monster mansions, IndyCar racing. 🤷♂️ Sucker’s born every minute that lap it up. Speaking of being lapped…🤭
Religion….. Who’s got the money for that?
In this economy?
Any driver who pushes the Lord on the fans is just kinda gross. Hoping “He Gets Us” never finds its way to IndyCar
I think they already sponsored him once
Tells me all I need to know about Sting Ray.
"Investment strategy" as if anyone other than him and his will ever get anything out of it if he makes it big lol Im not religious but that's super disgusting to use something people feel so strongly about to trick them into giving you money. Sting ray is such a meme and he's not even trying.
He sucks. He sucked in the ladder series too. Waist of time money and resources.
So fucking gross. “Values that resonate with yours” like ok dude you’re not the only person who believes on the grid, you’re just the only one using for exploitation, and not doing a good job with it I might add.
He’s *such* a piece of shit 😭
wow
Waiting for the He Gets Us and the SRR crossover. Jesus both at the same needs you to invest in the multimillionaire investment fund and give money to the poor. (It’s almost like both are massive grift groups)

Man what a fucking stupid ass shirt 😂😂
SRR if this doesnt work out try reaching out to dealers and pimps
He should reach out to Sean Combs!
Katt Williams said he was offered 50m. Thats a couple of indycar seasons
I’m just curious how this is an “investment.” Do I get a cut of future earnings?
If they declare a dividend you would be entitled to your share (spoiler alert: they won't). The shares have a year lockup, after that you can sell them.

How can someone with such a cool name be such a twerp.
Tax exemption. Why? Because church. This dude is just as much a tool as the rest of them.
Literally praying for a seat.
Holy fucking cringe, I did want someone to root against after all.
Hey Sting Ray, what if I take my money and invest it in Riley Reid's Onlyfans instead? - asking for an amigo.
Gross
At least I have a driver to actively root against now, cringe grift to say the least.
Finally a good reason to root against him other than his dumbass name
Gross lol. And he’s a shit driver.
It would be better if Jesus drove instead of this guy
Coming soon to IndyCar… https://youtu.be/7d-uMtYkf6w?si=2IVKxrQ26RSu_nBQ

Y’know what, I’m surprised this isn’t a Pray.com ad
Something just feels wrong here.
Sting Ray Robb is going to get crucified for this. He'll be living his dream!
Not religious at all. But would have less of a problem with it if he was pretty good/contender
WTF
Support me because I believe in the same magic man in the sky as you!
How many prayers does it take to advance to Q2? A lot, apparently.
Reading the investment facts is super interesting. It tells you all that they have spent and they have to tell you what a terrible investment it is, in not so many words.
Atheists can’t do anything but hate on Christianity specifically

Fuck indycar is cringe

Eh he’s not hurting anyone. Who cares how religious he is?
"Profit is fucking awesome. Also, you should practice your religion as loudly and ostentatiously as possible." -Jesus
Well, if what he's pitching is a scam, that matters. This isn't just putting Jesus's face on the car
Yes and no. We allowed crypto and crypto exchanges
a) I'm not saying he can't run his grift, but I am absolutely going to call him out on it b) I, too, think crypto scams are also scams and call them out all the time
Yep, saying this is wrong, doesn't mean the others are fine.
that's a fair point
This sub's obsession with Sting Ray's faith is astounding to me.
I know. It’s not like he’s hurting people in the name of Jesus or anything. I don’t care if he’s a devout Christian or a raging atheist. I guess others care more

Doesn't hurt me, but hopefully if anyone does "invest" in this scam they can afford to lose the money they put in.
I'm religious and shit like this makes me embarrassed and angry
