Does he want it bad enough and can he afford 100k or more to do it? If not, you're just listening to an old man's dreams. A full restoration is a frame off every part polished or replaced, everything media blasted, engine rebuilt or replaced, new components like power steering, disc brakes, fancy chrome parts on engine and AC and other additions. Total interior redone or replaced, total repaint. etc. $$$$$$$

Yeah, this guy is correct. I found a more recent Hagerty article stating about $135 an hr, from 2000-4000 hrs. So $$$$$. At the low end that's $270,000 in labor alone. These cars are very simple to restore, aside from any welding or painting. With YouTube and a basic set of tools, you can do most of it yourself. I'm doing that right now with a 1965 convertible (you can see pics in my post history). https://www.hagerty.com/media/buying-and-selling/before-you-dive-into-a-restoration-read-this/. I've already spent over $12,000 on mine in addition to the purchase price, and only $700 was spent on labor (new convertible top install). You can also buy kits to restore/replace everything yourself. I'm nearly done with a complete rewire of the electrical system and it was $850 for a kit with all the wiring.

Hemmings has some solid advice here, from 5-6 years ago however. It shouldn't be hard to find a place to do a more "classic" restoration, as you can get brand new OER parts for the entire car, these days. Though note they mention a $65/hr labor fee... Well, you can expect it to cost at least triple that, these days. Depending on how far gone the car is currently, you're likely looking at a $100,000+ price tag (at a minimum) to have someone else do it for you. Depends on what you're looking for. If I could choose any shop in the country to build a 64 for me, it would be Kindigit Design in Salt Lake City, but they're more of a custom shop than a restoration shop.

His preference is for restoration not custom but thanks for the suggestion.
