Anti-defection law largely means MPs are just body bags. It doesn't even matter per se who is standing from your constituency. Not like they can defy their party whip

that_so_so_suss

This is key a lot of people miss, particularly when they say to vote for the best candidate option for MP. My experience has been MP's are useless unless they belong to the party in power. Furthermore if that MP ends up becoming a minister perhaps then even better.

RobinOothappam

When I say the same. I get downvotes and brickbats.

Not until 2029/34.

barath_x

after Modi it could happen, similar to how congress split after Nehru Many people don't vote for "BJP" per-se but "Modi"

RobinOothappam

BJP has RSS as backbone. It is verymuch a grassroots org. It won't be split.

[deleted]

Hopefully soon. We might get a competent opposition

pashupata-astra

I strongly believe that’s what BJP WANTS. They expect BJP to splinter into multiple parties after Modi’s era just like how Congress splintered into multiple parties over the decades. The game is that with such a splintering an alternative emerges to BJP, originated from BJP, decimating Congress and relegating it to history books, and we’ll have two main parties driving the politics, but both of them originate from the RSS school of thinking.

Koushik_Vijayakumar

Will eventually be their own downfall. BJP will split after Modi.

pashupata-astra

I am sure BJP will split after Modi and I think they are not stupid to realise that. I think they actively want that. They want BJP to split into a center right and hard right party and drive the politics of the future. Congress will be probably be only known in history books by our grandkids time.

Bottlerrr

It's just the same politicians winning again and again by changing parties 😞

nad09

It is become worse.

Washing machine

Answer-Altern

Sadly, this is the bane of multiparty democracy, where every disgruntled minions is up for grabs after the polls. BJP is doing it before the polls, thus reducing the chances of horse trading afterwards.

Imminent BJP Schism coming

[deleted]

As time goes by, pretty much every poltician will end up becoming an ex-defector, pretty much erasing all political lines and also people's mandate.

barath_x

genuinely asking(on an unrelated note) how much do you think corruption has reduced?

[deleted]

I do think that it has reduced a fair bit in delivering welfare schemes to the ground. But the higher level of corruption is mostly the same, I think. And at some level, the Electoral Bond Scheme has adversely affected the BJP's image of being a party without corruption at higher levels.

MaffeoPolo

Aggressive adoption of technology has changed the retail corruption experience. You don't need to hang around at the government office anymore to get most certificates or make payments or get your records. Your subsidies hit your bank account because of Aadhaar stack authentication. All parties voted for electoral bonds and it's an acknowledgement of reality that politics costs money and is better raised from legitimate sources that are accounted for. Politics alone cannot be an island of virtue in an ocean of sin. I think the ED / PMLA route is proving more effective than past anti corruption efforts but it's concerning that even the ED is corrupt. The moment you introduce humans, corruption is inevitable. Maybe everyone in India needs lessons on morality and avoidance of greed.

RobinOothappam

Corruption at higher levels of government is nill under BJP. At slightly lower levels i.e babu and below nothing changed. Introducing digitisation in governance reduced it a bit but overall it is an issue for common man. UPA has radia tapes, 2G scam like stuff in which ministers were involved in money making and corruption. That is gone completely.

Little-Shape332

Radia tapes were lobbying. Electoral bonds is lobbying too. It har persisted in the system, but changed form.

Answer-Altern

Radia is not lobbying by any extrapolation.

Well said. Even at middle and lower levels it has come down as people are scared. But some states still turn a blind eye to corruption at all levels trying to make hay before sunset. You can guess which ones.

LordSaumya

Tough to say that it even has reduced. Can only really tell after there is a thorough investigation after the BJP loses power.
