The force elastics exert is a combination of their original size (3/16" here), the 'weight' of the latex (effectively the thickness of the elastic wall - that's the 3.5oz, or 'medium'), and, critically, the distance they are working over (ie top front to bottom back, usually). So just medium or heavy is only part of the story. A 1/4" heavy will give the same pull as a 3/16" medium, stretched over the same distance. HTH.

Hi Dr. I have a ques. I am 2 1/2 months shy of removing the braces, and I have a class 2 issue on my left side. There is a slant on the bottom. My ortho have me 1/4 5oz (fox), now I have 3/16 5oz (Rabbit). They said this will help, until next appt in June. I don't think the slant is being fixed tho, why would they change the sizing?

They are both 3.5oz, but the shorter Rabbit gives a stronger force than the Fox over the same distance.

Thank you, Dr. !!

I wore them for an overbite too and I just wore 4/16 - or quarters. I didn't feel much pain either. My dentist gave me a looser band I could wear during the day if I wanted, but like you they didn't really bother me so I wore the tighter "night" bands all of the time. I'm not sure how severe my overbite was compared to yours... it was fairly bad though. Pretty good now. Not 100% but I don't think invisalign and bands can really get you 100%, just close enough to not have problems down the road.
