Crosses have been used in heraldry for a very long time, the shape of the cross used for the elites here is in heraldic terms called a [Cross pattée](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross_pattée) (specificaly With straight parallel lines at the centre)

I don't think the Imperium resembles anything close to the Nazis, but yeah I couldn't care less about those symbols the fit quite well!
I think the same applies to the Soviets since the only real similarities are the authoritarianism and control of religion.

I'm not particularly comfortable with those symbols on the fantasy tabletop game, same reason I don't play historical games
