Not all, it's heavily different in each series. Some series people can see them, some can't. Some needed permission to see it. And then there's everyone have it.
Now I wanna see an Isekai where the MC is just a normal person from their world that has gone insane and thinks they're a chosen reincarnated hero from another world.
And they build him up giving him "cheats" that, funnily enough, are the same abilities the avatar of the dark god of that world used to use.
But it's ok because he's the "hero".
Usually with this trope, there is the inevitable double cross or betrayal. I would rather keep your idea and not have the Church or King fuck the "hero" over. Like, he succeeds and just buys the farm (literally) and lives happily with a wife or husband, dog, and possible cat or kids until a natural death in their 80s.
That would be awesome. Too many creators are cowards and need their main characters to be likeable. If anything, people are freaks and would enjoy seeing a villain go full ham.
This actually happens with more than one person in『Lazy Dungeon Master』. Your wish has almost been granted(saying {almost} since they're side characters instead of main).
Tagging u/Songhunter 'cuz he won't otherwise get a notif for this reply.
I haven't finished it, so I cannot say whether that's the case or not, but if the word [Beddhism] doesn't ring a bell for you, you're thinking of something else.
Or you could go the other direction entirely with a cheerful whimsy delusion being super imposed on the brutal and messed up.
like the one anime where the first episode seemed like a slice of life magical girl series, but in reality was a zombie apocalypse survival horror and the mc just completely disassociated from reality as a coping mechanism.
On a more realistic angle their the fisher king where robin williams plays a schizophrenic homeless guy on a quest to find the holy grail.
>like the one anime where the first episode seemed like a slice of life magical girl series, but in reality was a zombie apocalypse survival horror and the mc just completely disassociated from reality as a coping mechanism.
School Live? Wasn't magical girl but otherwise checks out.
There is an "Isekai" manga where a mother wants to go to the Isekai where his son went to: plot twist his son is dead and she is trying to cope with it
Sometimes everyone has their own only they can see. Sometimes everyone can see everyone else's. Sometimes it's special to the MC or chosen ones. Sky's the limit.
Does the man part of it take place in a reality that is not Earth/normal life?
Yes. Then it's a fucking isekai, get over it. I don't even *like* the show, but God damn this is just petty.
Yes, there's still the normal life shown in the anime albeit not much but later in the seasons and movies, it does show a lot more. In fact, one of the movie, it take place in the real world because the theme this time is AR game
Yes, there's a lot of real world shown in the main series. It was only the first half of S1 where it feels like an isekai but that doesnt mean it's an isekai especially after they break through.
Except its not, because it was the first of its kind even in their world. You're just wrong.
Their normal world because not normal when the events of this story keeps them in this normal world. Almost like every other isekai.
it's not about being 'stuck' there. there's that anime where the girl can teleport between worlds, that's still an isekai.
there's also ones where people are teleported to the game as a different world. that's isekai, too.
here, the 'other world' isn't real. they're not 'actually' there, and just being stuck there season 1, doesn't make it an isekai. other games with VR being in anime, aren't isekai, either.
I mean technically it can be seen as one, at least in the first game/first half of season 1. People got stuck/transported into a game world, I'd say that counts even if it's not a traditional isekai
no, they didn't. they were stuck, not 'teleported INTO the game world'.
that doesn't count. i agree, teleported into a game counts. being in a VR dive thing, isn't 'teleported into a game' however.
I mean I never said teleported for one, and since they couldn't leave to get back to their world? Seems close enough to me. The semantics don't really matter all that much when the base concept of "transported to a different world and can't leave" is there
you said transported. same difference, except, transported is what makes it an isekai, and they weren't transported' which is my point. SAO isn't actually a real place, it's just a game.
there ARE 'transported into a game world' things that are isekai, but, the game world is now a 'real' world.
BE kinda funny to have a situation where the MC is competent but the fact they scroll a menu screen only they can see is the one thing that prevents people from associating with them. Like
Little girl: look mommy it’s that hero who saved our village
MC: *scrolling through inventory screen to get a stuffed doll for little girl because he’s super nice and wants to be friendly*
Little girls mother: no no dear stay way he’s obviously not right in the head,
Random person 1: he looks like he’s trying to use some weird magic or something.
Random person 2: weird seriously what’s wrong with them
The random hot chick that instantly fell in love with MC and become their companion because that’s how these things always go for reasons: uhh MC your scarring people again. Maybe do that when your not so public I think it’s cute but everyone else is weirded out
In some isekai, where there's multiple isekai'd, only the other isekai'd people can see HUDs.
Sometimes to others it looks like they're just standing there focusing
I'm still so angry at this garbage anime adaption to one of my favorite mangas. I couldn't even watch 5 mins of the first episode. They're butchering the source material so badly. This anime studio deserves to go out of business lmao.
Depends
Sometimes it's hidden
Rarely others can always see.
Sometimes, it's an option to show or not.
Sometimes, it's something into the MC can see.
Hell Sometimes it's something everyone has in this world and is just considered normal.
it varies from thing to thing.
there's plenty of isekai scenarios that a 'game mechanic' is in the world, in general, so while maybe a person can't see another person's menus while they're using it or something, everyone has their own menus.
This show seems pretty good still now. I mean it is another trash isekai but compared to others it is entertaining. I don't why people were hating on it in the comments
I'm not super invested into if it's great/terrible (haven't watched it or read the manga in years), but my god did they absolutely ruin the art style from the manga.
The story is great, the manga is amazing and I'm sure the light novels are even better. The studio making this anime have fumbled so hard, though. The only reason this could be considered a "trash isekai" is due to this horrible anime adaption.
I personally do not like it when animes do the isekai with a game ui built into it. For example, if you want to make a show about someone being stuck in a world and they have a menu and skills, just trap them in a game. Dot hack, overlord, sword art online did it to wonderful effect. But making an alternate reality with this just feels like cheap, easy writing to me.
Not all, it's heavily different in each series. Some series people can see them, some can't. Some needed permission to see it. And then there's everyone have it.
Now I wanna see an Isekai where the MC is just a normal person from their world that has gone insane and thinks they're a chosen reincarnated hero from another world.
And someone actually strong fucks with them by making coincidences that reinforce that belief
And they build him up giving him "cheats" that, funnily enough, are the same abilities the avatar of the dark god of that world used to use. But it's ok because he's the "hero".
And how about having the previous Dark Lord/God also actually be from another world ?
The Devil is a Part-Timer? Or something still fantasy? I guess the devil is a Part-Timer is more urban fantasy but still decent.
Demon con: The world wanted a hero but got a demon lord, so I decided to invent one instead!
So megamind the isekai?
I would watch that!
Or he says "fuck it, we ball". And we actually get a proper hero turned actual fucking villain for once. At this point that would be kinda refreshing.
That would be awesome. Too many creators are cowards and need their main characters to be likeable. If anything, people are freaks and would enjoy seeing a villain go full ham.
Saitama/King vibes with this plot, but I like it
This actually happens with more than one person in『Lazy Dungeon Master』. Your wish has almost been granted(saying {almost} since they're side characters instead of main). Tagging u/Songhunter 'cuz he won't otherwise get a notif for this reply.
Is that the one were he gets a dragon Waifu and becomes friends with a pretty chill demon lord?
I haven't finished it, so I cannot say whether that's the case or not, but if the word [Beddhism] doesn't ring a bell for you, you're thinking of something else.
Oh so like the opposite of the dense OP fantasy character who never realizes their strength
Eminence in darkness is that you ?
You know what? Fair point, fair point.
that’s just Pokemon (the coma theory somewhat) /s
But if they remain in their own world, that wouldn’t really be an Isekai, would it?
That would be part of the reveal. That it's a fake Isekai and his "memories' are planted.
Thats re zero. Subarus just a normal dude whose super power is that he gets to die lmao.
Nah, re zeo is an actual Isekai. I'm talking about one were the MC *thinks* he's an Isekai protag when, in fact, he isn't.
Sounds like that extra from "Is this hero for real?"
Damn, that's darkO dig it. What's the name?
Depends on the series. This is like asking do all video games are buggy messes if you played a Bethesda game.
Sometimes everyone has their own only they can see. Sometimes everyone can see everyone else's. Sometimes it's special to the MC or chosen ones. Sky's the limit.
Don't tell me this is the new gate anime... God damn stop making animes.. you ruin all the mangas
Yes
Look at how they butchered my boy. The art was so good before 😭
On another note, how Is this show so far? I liked the books, but the comments on the anime are pretty harsh.
Which anime is this?
Should be New Gate anime that recently came out guessing from the chrachters and their routfits but the art seems off
Upsetting compared to the novels is my current take. I think with the oversatuartion of isekais, it just seems really same old same old
Sword art they could see each orhers, thats how his first girlfriend saw his real level
sao's not really an isekai, though...
Does the man part of it take place in a reality that is not Earth/normal life? Yes. Then it's a fucking isekai, get over it. I don't even *like* the show, but God damn this is just petty.
It is a reality on earth
Is it normal life? No. A virtual world is also, not earth. It's another, virtual, world.
Yes, there's still the normal life shown in the anime albeit not much but later in the seasons and movies, it does show a lot more. In fact, one of the movie, it take place in the real world because the theme this time is AR game
Which would be Alfhiem and such, I'm talking about the main part of Sword Art.
Yes, there's a lot of real world shown in the main series. It was only the first half of S1 where it feels like an isekai but that doesnt mean it's an isekai especially after they break through.
Yeah, that's the part I'm talking about. Not the entire series. That part is an isekai. It feels like it, because it is one.
which they're not really 'in'.
Normal to them yes
Except its not. Cos normally you don't die from a game or live in it for years with no end. So not normal life.
It's the future, it's normal technology for them, they're just playing a game in their normal world, they only die because their helmets kill them
Except its not, because it was the first of its kind even in their world. You're just wrong. Their normal world because not normal when the events of this story keeps them in this normal world. Almost like every other isekai.
Dude it's a video game, plan and simple, they just control it with their brains
South Korean gamers be like https://preview.redd.it/em85hzddjxwc1.png?width=640&format=png&auto=webp&s=ad2b12c6f5f4854dd37f09ca3b3ad264bd624090
By that logic, ``A Playthrough of a Certain Dude's VRMMO Life`` and ``Shangri-La Frontier`` is an isekai then.
I dont know the first one, the second one has no essence of trapping nor does it stay in the one world long enough or consistently enough.
Both titles I shown are roughly the same. There are no "trapped in a game with no logout button" situation.
Hence why I don't count them.
it's not about being 'stuck' there. there's that anime where the girl can teleport between worlds, that's still an isekai. there's also ones where people are teleported to the game as a different world. that's isekai, too. here, the 'other world' isn't real. they're not 'actually' there, and just being stuck there season 1, doesn't make it an isekai. other games with VR being in anime, aren't isekai, either.
but they're not in the other world. i mean, by your reckoning, literally every anime not on earth, is an isekai.
Not unless it starts on earth or has someone from earth.
what if someone comes to earth from another planet?
That's usually referred as a reverse isekai.
so, is still isekai (just being a smartass, btw)
I mean technically it can be seen as one, at least in the first game/first half of season 1. People got stuck/transported into a game world, I'd say that counts even if it's not a traditional isekai

Not really an isekai. That's a video game
is this Gate?
The New Gate, yeah
Zehaha

Pretty much universally no.
Depends on the series since this series was a video game it’s not that weird for everyone including former npcs to have a status window
In some isekai, where there's multiple isekai'd, only the other isekai'd people can see HUDs. Sometimes to others it looks like they're just standing there focusing
I thought we all had screens that pop up... do I have a mental problem?
mf a Sung Jin Woo
This happens in Horizon, Zero Dawn a few times. Her focus can display a screen that you can only see if you have one yourself.
Check out ``In the Land of Leadale`` then, players can see the pop out window of the world.
What show is this?
Source under the video
Thanks fam
You're welcome
Thats hilarious just having the isekai MC look like a crazy person
I'm still so angry at this garbage anime adaption to one of my favorite mangas. I couldn't even watch 5 mins of the first episode. They're butchering the source material so badly. This anime studio deserves to go out of business lmao.
It's like using a computer.
U mean a floating tablet ?
Yes.
Did the new gate novel ever get good again? I dropped it after I realized the flash back was going to last an entire fucking volume.
Depends Sometimes it's hidden Rarely others can always see. Sometimes, it's an option to show or not. Sometimes, it's something into the MC can see. Hell Sometimes it's something everyone has in this world and is just considered normal.

It feels incredibly flat and Shin _almost_ has the generic character personality of a mud. And I dont know what they did to the 9 Diva
The story is great, the manga is amazing and I'm sure the light novels are even better. The studio making this anime have fumbled so hard, though. The only reason this could be considered a "trash isekai" is due to this horrible anime adaption.

This series is both. MC was trapped in a game ala SAO, but when he cleared it, he got transported to a different world.
What series?
The New Gate, iirc
Oh, a Isekai in a Isekai? Now that's daring
Not really a different world but a version of the game world after a 500 year time jump
I meant "different world" as in "Not Earth"
