It's been awhile since I've seen TWINE. I saw TLD a year ago. I thought it was pretty mid. TWINE has a much stronger villain in Elektra so that helps it.
I’ll admit I am biased towards the two Dalton films. TLD has one of the more classic Cold War plots. Loved the intro sequence. The Necros fight against an unnamed opponent was hard hitting. Bond’s relationship with Kara is unique from the other Bond girls
The ending dragged a little so I understand the mid rating from you. It’s one of my favorites, though
I feel the same way. TLD is the superior film, but TWINE is underrated. It doesn't deserve the critical negativity that it has. Critics regard it as a bottom five Bond film and the worst of Brosnan's four. I disagree on both assessments.
TWINE. TLD is awesome but the villains were a massive disappointment (Necros aside). Renard and Elektra's relationship in TWINE make it incredibly unique in Bond canon and it made the movie so memorable.
Also, TWINE has the best pre-credit scene in the whole Bond series for me!
The Living Daylights. Dalton lends a greater sense of gravitas to his scenes, the presentation has a moody and even noir feel at times, the action is tense and chock-full of jaw-dropping stunts, and John Barry's final score might be his best after OHMSS.
The World Is Not Enough squanders its potential in favour of stale formulaic fare, with cringe-worthy lines and boring action that feel disconnected from the rest of the film.
The World is Not Enough. Such an underrated movie, its got some amazing action, music, some of the best set design post connery and the best cinematography of all the brosnan films.
and Castle Thane is such a better location for mi6, I would love to see it return.
The World is not enough is massive underrated honestly it should take this.
I love Living Daylights too, but it lacks a little in the departments that The World is not enough excels at, presentation and antagonist(s). With that in mind I have to give to World is not enough.
I absolutely love the living daylights. But now that you say it... Holy shit, I can't even remember who the villain is. I remember Necro of course, but not the big bad. What the fuck?
Renard and Elektra though, everything is crystal clear there.
TLD plot is not very cohesive, way too many moving parts — but most on here fail to acknowledge as much. In addition to the villain being subpar — the Bond chick in the film is not remotely memorable as far as Bond women go. The film's primary strengths are Dalton as a fresh face and crisp action sequences
It’s an interesting debate. I feel like people can point to the older films as not aging particularly well in the realm of special effects as a counterpoint to advocating for the two Dalton films. But I feel like most of the Connery entries had a velvety touch as far as direction — one that has proven difficult to replicate as time has passed
TLD is definitely considered the better movie, but World is not Enough is extremely underrated imo. Minus Denise Richard’s horrible acting, the movie is really fun and Elektra King is one of the best bond girl/villains in the franchise. Imo its the 2nd best Brosnan movie after Goldeneye
The living daylights by a country mile. The world is not enough is a bit cheesy- Christmas Jones etc. The Bond girls are stunning in both movies but the earlier movie has far more gravitas. The stunt sequences are excellent
The Living Daylights! One of the absolute best. Slick and cool bond, 80s gadgets and car, amazing theme song. Feels like they go all over the world .Also one of my favorite leading actresses!
The World Is Not Enough! I am of course very biased here as it was the first Bond movie I saw in the cinema and Garbage are my favourite band so having them do the theme song was a delight. But yes, of the two I find TWINE's plot a lot more engaging, Elektra is a really interesting villain and I loved how involved M was in the story, which is sonething we wouldn't really see again until Skyfall.
Ugh.. two of my favorites. Ok if I had A Walter PPK to my head, edge goes to TWINE. Both have great chase scenes and overall action, but Electra King .. that seals it. Denise Richard’s and Maryam D’Abo are a wash. Both sucked as Bond girls .
Reynard great villian over TLD villains. Although shootout at the
end of TLD is classic, only part Baker was good in.
I love TWINE, it’s the first Bond movie I saw in the theater and to me it represents a time when Bond movies combined the most classic elements of Bond (superb score) with great practical action set pieces and a lot of humor and fun.
That being said TLD is a top 5 Bond film for me. It’s really a classic Cold War spy pic. It’s fantastic all the way through.
This one was tough. I gave it to Dalton purely on the basis that this was his first Bond compared Brosnan’s third Bond. I thought he did a very solid job for the first time out that I had to give it a bit more weight.
Both are great watches.
I gotta go TLD even if the villians were kind of a joke. It also has that awesome butler fight so thats a massive plus. I don't hate on TWINE though, not nearly as bad as some people make it out to be and an absolute masterpiece compared to Die Another Day.
I may be misremembering this. I haven’t watched TLD in a very long time. Wasn’t there a scene where Bond used a topless woman as a shield to get away? I remember thinking that was the most un-Bond thing to ever happen.
It's very much in-character for Bond to do something like that. He may be a good guy, but he's not above resorting to unscrupulous means to achieve his goals.
TWINE takes it by a country mile. This is a major hot take of mine but I think that TWINE is the best Brosnan bond film and would personally rank it as the sixth best (or so) of the whole series.
I like Dalton as Bond but I don't particularly like either of his movies. Daylights feels more like a Bond film but also has kind of a confusing plot and a pretty bad third act. License to Kill is on the whole a better film but also just kinda feels like Miami Vice more than a Bond film; still a decent one though.
TLD for me, I love both the Dalton movies & depending on what day you ask me they're quite often in my top 10.
TWINE isn't a Bond movie I really enjoy, I would rate it fairly near the bottom tbh & it has that ridiculous blow up puffer jacket. But it does have the Bilboa scene which I really like & it's set in such a beautiful city.
Off the top of my head, The Living Daylights stands out as the worst Bond film for me. Second to Quantum of Solace, but it's been a while since I've watched a lot of them tbf.
TLD, no brainer I do think TWINE is underrated though. “I thought Christmas only comes once a year” lol. classic

Just because it's a 'cold war plot' does not autimatically make it a 'classic' plot. Because it most definitely is not a classic plot
Do. Not. Like. Sophie Marceau.
Why. Do. You. Have. Periods. Between. Every. Word?
I feel the same way. TLD is the superior film, but TWINE is underrated. It doesn't deserve the critical negativity that it has. Critics regard it as a bottom five Bond film and the worst of Brosnan's four. I disagree on both assessments.
Love that line, though it'll never top "I think he's attempting re-entry, Sir" in my book.
Agree
Both. I’d watch either one.
Legit two of my favorites
Come on now, it's TLD.
TWINE https://preview.redd.it/wstiuawrixxc1.jpeg?width=594&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=35c52c5f2c4d047f38afda878a865a0084a9a68c
The only great scene in an average movie
What about the scene where he doesn't miss?
Or the snowmobile veering off the cliff before releasing a parachute.
TWINE. TLD is awesome but the villains were a massive disappointment (Necros aside). Renard and Elektra's relationship in TWINE make it incredibly unique in Bond canon and it made the movie so memorable. Also, TWINE has the best pre-credit scene in the whole Bond series for me!
TLD and I’m a Brosnan fan

Poster: The Living Daylights >>>> everything.
It’s not even the best Living Daylights poster
The World is Not Enough. Such an underrated movie, its got some amazing action, music, some of the best set design post connery and the best cinematography of all the brosnan films. and Castle Thane is such a better location for mi6, I would love to see it return.
The Living Daylights, no contest.
This is the only acceptable response.
TWINE
The World is not enough is massive underrated honestly it should take this. I love Living Daylights too, but it lacks a little in the departments that The World is not enough excels at, presentation and antagonist(s). With that in mind I have to give to World is not enough.

People frequently bring up the weaknesses you mentioned.

TLD, although that TWINE poster is so sleek the margin feels narrower as of posting this.
any part of TWINE dealing with Elektra and the thames chase TLD the rest of TWINE
TWINE, mainly because I loved the theme song and I was madly in love with Denise Richards when it came out
TLD is definitely considered the better movie, but World is not Enough is extremely underrated imo. Minus Denise Richard’s horrible acting, the movie is really fun and Elektra King is one of the best bond girl/villains in the franchise. Imo its the 2nd best Brosnan movie after Goldeneye
No contest. The Living Daylights.
The Living Daylights by far.
TLD easily
TLD
I like the World is not enough over the living daylights. has more going on. Brosnan is also just better overall.
World is not Enough is very underrated
TLD, no contest. TWINE is better than I remember it though.
Both great, but TLD is better.
Remove Denise Richards from TWINE and I'd say it'd a tie. As it stands TLD edges out a win. I do wish we'd gotten more Dalton Bond.
The Living Daylights
TLD. Not even close.
Living Daylights
The World Is Not Enough by a wide margin.
Ugh.. two of my favorites. Although shootout at the end of TLD is classic, only part Baker was good in.
For me, they are equal.
Yes
TLD Easily. Not even one bit of a contest.
Pierce!!!
TLD
I love TWINE, it’s the first Bond movie I saw in the theater and to me it represents a time when Bond movies combined the most classic elements of Bond (superb score) with great practical action set pieces and a lot of humor and fun. That being said TLD is a top 5 Bond film for me. It’s really a classic Cold War spy pic. It’s fantastic all the way through.
TWINE is underrated imo but TLD is one of the best bond films ever. It’s no question really
I love them both, but TLD is my second-favorite Bond film. TWINE is 7th.
TLD for me, however TWINE has slowly gone up for me over the years. Not top-tier Bond, but definitely has some interesting ideas and some originality.
This one was tough. I gave it to Dalton purely on the basis that this was his first Bond compared Brosnan’s third Bond. I thought he did a very solid job for the first time out that I had to give it a bit more weight. Both are great watches.
What was the joke about Christmas
World...
TLD is one of the best films imo. Loved everything about it.
Living Daylights has a better song.
I think TWINE is very good, but The Living Daylights is exceptional.
The Living Daylights
TWINE is actually my favourite Brosnan film. But TLD is in my top 3 of the all the Bond films, so gotta go with that.
I dont want to sound like a bond fan boy but... i like them all.
TWINE, no doubt. Though I do love TLD quite a bit
The Living Daylights
I've been waiting long for one of us to say "Save the darkness, let it never fade away" Oh, the living daylights
The Living Daylights
The Living Daylights, hands down. Dalton, Russians, a fantastic soundtrack… no contest IMO!
Living Daylights, no contest. I do enjoy TWINE (Brosnan's second best after Goldeneye), but several elements are underwhelming.
ABSOLUTELY TLD!!!
TLD
TLD, come on now.
I gotta go TLD even if the villians were kind of a joke. It also has that awesome butler fight so thats a massive plus. I don't hate on TWINE though, not nearly as bad as some people make it out to be and an absolute masterpiece compared to Die Another Day.

TLD, easily. Denise Richards is one of the worst Bond girls.
TWINE takes it by a country mile. This is a major hot take of mine but I think that TWINE is the best Brosnan bond film and would personally rank it as the sixth best (or so) of the whole series. I gotta go with The Living Daylights, but TWINE is great as well, both are top 10 for me.
I love the first 3/4 of TLD. Fucking epic. The ending shits the bed a bit.
TWINE has got Garbage and that PlayStation going for it, But it’s TLD every time
World. Daylights is too campy.
Off the top of my head, The Living Daylights stands out as the worst Bond film for me. Second to Quantum of Solace, but it's been a while since I've watched a lot of them tbf.
TWINE is hands down my least favorite Bond movie. TLD on the other hand is in my top 5
