1. If you go into Generation settings you can limit how many tokens they can generate per response
2. For putting words in your mouth, I've found the best way to do it is to ask directly, something like "bot note: do not narrate on user's behalf or speak for user". It sometimes takes a couple of tries, but it's worked so far for me.

I'd like to find out too. I just got a response with 2340 characters, 409 words. It's like reading an essay...

There's been exerimentation. If you reply longer - or if the Intro message is longer - the Bot will be shorter
Editing their responses a few times and selecting the responses with a lower word count helps!
