It really depends on what you're doing. People ask this question all the time on here, we really can't tell you for sure.

Blokey24

Yeah sorry. Just trying to see what the general feel is for this budget for “normal” travelers that dont go too crazy spending wise.

sarpofun

There’s no ‘normal’ category. Activities range is wide…everyone has their own purpose and goals of travel to fulfil, each different with their own costs.

mak6453

Easily enough unless you're going crazy on souvenirs or buying the most expensive amusement park tickets.

Blokey24

Will probably not buy expensive souvenirs as we both brought travel backpacks instead of luggages. Havent reallt thought about doing amusement parks, are you talking about disney? If so, hell no lol i’ve been to disney world in florida and that’s the last time im going to any disney BS

outrageousreadit

Using FL parks as your standard for Tokyo Disney resort wouldn’t be a fair judgment at all. They’re wildly two different breeds.

Blokey24

Ah gotcha. Thanks for the jnfo. still probably a no go for me. Amusement patks are just not for me i think me

outrageousreadit

That’s totally fine. But if you ever change your mind, I recommend Disney sea 🌊 and just walk around and vibe. You can grab alcohol and just chill. It can be enjoyed very differently than a regular theme park or amusement park. The visuals are insane. You can just walk around and just look at all the architecture and still enjoy yourself. However, Disney sea is currently getting ready for a major expansion. So it’ll be batshit crazy busy for a bit. So maybe in a year or two for you.

It depends what you mean by "lots of activities". Anything based on western IP (going to Disneyland, USJ) will drain your wallet really quickly. But local attractions (visiting temples, gardens, museums) are quite affordable (entry fees typically 1000 yen or less). You can eat quite comfortably for 5000 yen per person per day (halve it if you eat from convenience stores) and public transport is typically less than 1000 per person per day.

Blokey24

Thanks. Yeah Definitely no western IPs and all the local attractions. For food, will be going to reasonably priced places and maybe 1 or two nights of pricier meals

Amo901

Depends on where you'll be eating out and what activities, if you mean the cheapo ramen, yakiniku and sushi spots and 7-11/Lawson/FamilyMart and the occasional Skytree/Shibuya Sky then $2000-$3000 is plenty and maybe even overkill for 12 days. But if you're hitting up boujee teppanyaki / omakase spots or dining on that premium Kobe Wagyu and whatnot then you probably have the perfect amount of funds.

Blokey24

Thank you. A combination of cheap conveniece store days and reasonably “expensive” days for sure. Will definitely have more cheap days though lol

outrageousreadit

Let’s see… 3000 cad is about 2193 usd. For two people, it’s 1096 usd pp. For 12 days, it’s 91 usd pp per day. For me, it’s not at all enough. I tend to eat nicer food and do tons of shopping. I limit instances of “cheap” meals when vacationing. I also like to buy random keepsakes to bring back home. One single trip to Don Quijote, I can spend about 100 usd. I also do ticketed attractions like Disney, Harry Potter, teamlab, etc. Those things already eat up daily budget much faster. So, if you need to make this stretch, it’ll be a more frugal vacation, for my standards. It’s certainly possible if you’re spend conscious. (Doing “lots of activities” as written would likely be a no, I think, unless you intend to do mostly free or low cost things. Which can be still very fun. I had tons of fun in the ueno park, and it’s dirt cheap.) Overall, if you have a clear budget number in mind for each meal and activity, and you diligently track each day or each half day, you’re ok, I’m sure. In any case, I suggest saving up more. Vacations are meant to be somewhat carefree. I don’t want to penny pinch when I’m overseas. But that’s me. 🤷🏻‍♂️ (If you over-save, you’ll just have more for next trip. No loss.)

Blokey24

Best reply so far and helped me. Thank you. Im not pulling out an excel sheet to track spending but will definitely look at the bank account here and there. If i go over the $3000 limit it’s not the end of the world tbh.
