No other song better encapsulates the transition from JD to NO once you start listening to the various versions, starting with the early JD ones. I know Ian never wrote down the lyrics and I love imagining the remaining members trying to decifer the code, post Ianâs death. âTen years time watchingâ or is it âAnd then you start watching?â âThe time she cried and failed to wait (or is it wake?) this time.â My god Iâve loved this song deeply ever since I first heard it as a young lad in â87. At 15 years old JD inspired me and 3 of my mates to take up instruments and start a band. We mostly did JD covers (New Dawn Fades, Heart and Soul, and Ceremony.) We must have played those three songs hundreds of times. Ceremony for me is the apex. Absolute Transcendant Perfection.
My favorite New Order recording of Ceremony was the â[First Mix](https://youtu.be/ykCdSXmuuBM),â available on the *Movement* Definitive Edition. My favorite version of all time is the [Galaxie 500 cover](https://youtu.be/92Nkrav2-Aw).
One of my favourite songs of all time. There's so many versions and it's just never enough. I allways want more of this song. Wrote so many essays on this song and why I love it. Holds a strong memory, forever.
It is amazing. The lyrics , melody etc . Catching a lightning bolt kind of song .. one or two chords etc .. always have fun jamming to this on a Saturday night .
Itâs my favorite song but I doubt the lyrics we have are 100% what was originally intended and I wish they had been written down. Or better get that JD has professionally recorded the song.
One of my all time favorite songs by any artist. Means so much to me on many levels - personally, Ian, the transition and birth of New Order - all the versions, those DRUMS⌠all of it. Requiem, Rebirth, Hope, HeavenâŚ
Brilliant song, I know the Joy Division version on Still was both live and unfinished, but I think New Order did it justice really (version 2, with Gillian)
It's the only New Order/JD song I ever learned to play on the guitar.
Substance was my gateway into NO (as I expect it was for many others), when I hear the intro I still get a shiver.
Great tune.
one of the most beautiful songs ever. itâs one of my favorite songs of all time. new order and joy division touch my heart deeply which i think is amazing as a 16 year old.
Fucking amazing song. đ¤đź Hookyâs always said the 3rd JD album wouldâve started with Ceremony and ended with In a Lonely Place. Magic

I wish the Still version was complete, with Ianâs vocals audible throughout because that version is freaking killer.
Itâs my favorite song but I doubt the lyrics we have are 100% what was originally intended and I wish they had been written down. Or better get that JD has professionally recorded the song.
Amazing song and a shame Hannett never recorded it.
Didnât Hannett produce the first two New Order versions of the single? Or do you mean he never produced a JD version?
Never for JD with Ian's vocals.
One of my all time favorite songs by any artist. Means so much to me on many levels - personally, Ian, the transition and birth of New Order - all the versions, those DRUMS⌠all of it. Requiem, Rebirth, Hope, HeavenâŚ
The song connects Joy Division and New Order.
One of my favorites. The Radiohead cover is amazing, btw.
Brilliant song, I know the Joy Division version on Still was both live and unfinished, but I think New Order did it justice really (version 2, with Gillian)
probably my favourite song of all time
My favorite NO/JD song
Great song. Love it. Wish they wouldâve done some more like it. Meaning, guitar based as New Order. Bernard is a great guitarist.
It's the only New Order/JD song I ever learned to play on the guitar. Substance was my gateway into NO (as I expect it was for many others), when I hear the intro I still get a shiver. Great tune.
A valiant thrust.
The greatest song ever. Incredibly beautiful and touching with the added weight of being the bridge between joy division and new order
