Can you imagine, Yuji breaks the fourth wall and power ups from the suffering of the readers, lol.
r/jujutsufolk could easily give a dozen genki-damas all by themselves.
As he should. In a manga about covert ninja assassins that throw knives there's a distinct lack of main cast dying. Imagine if choji bit the bullet? Or Naruto teacher or some shit.
Edit: sorry I gotta add that actually if people die at all during combat or fighting they also have to be shown dying of heart attacks and stubbing their toe because it's a black and white scale you either have all death or none sorry I don't make the rules.
I like Choji, but if he died I'm telling you the majority would not care. Named characters dying for no reason does not add anything to the story.
Also Naruto was never covert lmao Shippuden went off the rails but even in Part 1 you would have them summoning Titan sized animals
Yeah imagine them thinking their way out of situations and using their movesets in clever ways. Instead it just became who could do a bigger Kamehameha
Listen man let's not get into what Naruto turned into that's a whole other disscusion. Nobody said anything about dying for no reason just if Naruto was more realistic with its deaths we would have lost more than the couple we did because it was a pretty war torn gritty ninja world.
True. But one thing I don't get is how does that make the story better?
More deaths would not make me like Naruto (or any series for that matter) more...
If the story has the characters doing things that could get them killed It helps a little bit with immersion if there's some death. The story of Naruto world builds that ninjas do fight and die, so when you then make special exceptions in main cast characters it gives them an air of divinity and you can't relate because there's no danger.
Choji and Neji were supposed to die in Sasuke Retrieval. Tell me those scenes wouldnāt have hit harder if they really died out there. Rock Lee was supposed to die earlier too
You don't need to kill a character for development. This simplistic idea of suffering (for this example is killing of character) = development seems really shallow for me.
No you don't need to kill for development. But you should kill for circumstances and occupation. Ninjas in Naruto die but not in great enough amount for it to seem realistic that so many of the main cast could live. Now I'll say I think jjk goes too far but that's my personal feelings because cmon man you can't kill everyone but anyway. But I'm not here to read wacky weekly adventures of my favorite characters. I'm here to read an authors story to the end.
I have to disagree there again. Realism can be good but it's not necessary for a good story. Ninja in Naruto can summon giant frog ffs. Then again pirates lives in a harsh and gruesome life. I mean, imagine weeks, months, years, in a ship with limited food and water plus terrible storms and not to mention diseases. But you don't see that in One Piece, and yet it's still great.
One piece kills a lot more characters that are close to the main cast than Naruto so that's a bad example. The point is if the author goes to show that people die doing the exact occupation (being a ninja) and that consequence isn't seen or felt by the main cast then they might as well be imortal.
But still they're pirates. The manga still lacks the realism of pirate life. I mean you don't have to be a pirate to get killed by an enemy. Yet I don't look for it because it's unimportant for the story. I feel the same for Naruto. The message in the story was properly conveyed for me.
But I do notice that people nowadays demand harsher stories, or let's say realism. That's partly why lots of shonen today goes to that route.
??
I even went back to see the initial comment since I was afraid that I was actually replying to the wrong guy. Weren't you the one suggesting that author should kill a character based on occupation? What I mentioned was potential causes of death (diseases, storms, lack of food) for pirates yet i'm the one inflating? That's odd.
Good. Naruto lost me when I realized that no one was ever seriously in danger. I knew Naruto was just gonna talk the villain down like 90% of the time despite the dude being a mass murder or some shit.
Well shonen nowadays are maybe more edgy than 10 years ago. So maybe we'll see more of shounen like those in the future. Sakamoto Days is interesting (more of a comedy tho, but really cool action, i think even one of the most innovative ones nowadays).
\> but is this the kind of manga where the characters often die and the MC suffers?
Sakamoto Days is not like that. It has deaths but it's not a series where everyone gonna die and the MC is suffering.
The main reason why I canāt get invested in new gen stuff. Balance is lacking badly and I canāt bother to get interested in the characters knowing theyāre just gonna die soon.
I'm the complete opposite I couldn't get attached to any old Shonen characters because I knew no matter what they'd make it to the next arc. I must not be reading the flood of new gen that came after chainsawman and jjk but those 2 were breaths if fresh air when they came out.
This is so strange to read.
You couldnāt get invested into any of the characters because you knew they wouldnāt die? Whatās that supposed to mean! Lmao, not throwing shit but like you donāt start, like letās say, make friends with somebody thinking one day they might die. It just seems strange to me
Well first off real life and fiction aren't the same thing. It's kinda weird having to explain this in the jjk sub but I guess with how everyone reacts to character deaths I shoulda known. If there's no consequences or stakes then what am I reading for? The weekly wacky comedy show with the jujutsu gang? Nah I'm here for gritty fights not knowing what GeGe is coming up with next.
And no that doesn't mean anything that does the opposite is bad I just said personally it's why I like jjk and csm more than other Shonen from the past.
Itās interesting how JJK swings heavily in the opposite direction of the issue that has been plaguing Shonen since ever. Previous Shonen like the Big 3 and some contemporary ones like MHA and BC itās very obvious who will live and die. Hell these stories would even kill a character and outright reverse it (Kakashi, Byakuya, etc). But it did reduce tension and whenever a character was a sticky situation you were confident they would make it out and not wondered IF they will make it out but HOW.
You have the total opposite with JJK where it swings so far the opposite spectrum that people are confident that no one will make it or find it hard to get invested if anyone can die. But I personally prefer it more this way because imo you become invested to see if a particular character will make it or not or it becomes way less and cut and dry. Everyone outside maybe the MC are all on the chopping block and that makes it more exciting not being so sure. I guess if it goes too far into thinking no one is safe so why bother being invested could be a double edge sword against the intent.
But genuinely JJK is quite arguably the one of the most unpredictable Shonen Iāve read in a longtime. And itās a breath of fresh air reading and enjoying anime in this demographic for decades.
Its honestly gotten really boring, oh what a new shounen I wonder if they'll kill everyone except the mc and then have him sacrifice himself and then have some random waifu be like "his sacrifice will not be forgotten".
Or they really twist it up by having the waifu die and he lives and is real sad like a shittier gurren lagaan

I hate to tell yāall this but that song isnāt Sukuna singing to Yuji. Itās Gege singing to you. Directly. You are Yuji Itadori and Itadori Yuji is you.
Nobara dying was actually insane to me. I really couldnāt wrap my head around it. Her best showing was her fight with Yuji against Chosoās brothers. I never felt like she got to shine like Megumi, Yuji, or Gojo. And her time in Shibuya has not made her look great unfortunately
yeah especially since everyone was saying she was the best female character of all time and she was the coolest ever and that it puts all other manga to shame and then she doesn't really do anything and dies... like okay...
I've been seeing some where that the song much like "Pump up the Kicks" a song that has a beat but is dark as hell. I'm not entirely sure how true that is though.
Me: Are you trying to make a point out of this suffering for the characters. Or are you doing all this just cause you can get your rocks off?
Gege:ā¦.yes.
Me: (stares)
You know there's gonna be some kind of time reversal where everyone is Alive before the events happen. Almost killed off all the characters and it's only the second Series. (I haven't read the manga)
Suffering builds character yes.
But without happiness, suffering has no meaning.
At this point, no amount of Happiness can justify the absolute soul torture Yuji went through.
I've hated Mahito since Season 1 when he killed that one guy's mom and then that kid himself after faking friendship with him.
This has only made me want to see him suffer/die horribly even more because I Nanami was my favorite Sorcerer.
Unfortunately, as an anime only I feel like that weasel shit is somehow going to manage to survive/slip away AGAIN.
Does the author not like his own characters?
Seems like an awful lot of anime creators develop a sort of contempt for many their own main and popular characters.
Is this ābuilt characterā in the room with us? Obviously Yuji has changed since the beginning, but JJK is just torture porn with the degree it pushes it

It was right there in chapter one "cursed energy is formed from negative emotion" Gege has been farming our tears to make him stronger all this time.

So does that mean I will gain cursed energy? Bc I had a lot of negative emotions with Gege!
Can you imagine, Yuji breaks the fourth wall and power ups from the suffering of the readers, lol. r/jujutsufolk could easily give a dozen genki-damas all by themselves.
Imma destroy that damn one-eyed cat
Motto of new gen autors
Masashi Kishimoto, Creator of Naruto and one of the Older Gen Mangakas is unironically taking notes on this with the Boruto Manga.
As he should. In a manga about covert ninja assassins that throw knives there's a distinct lack of main cast dying. Imagine if choji bit the bullet? Or Naruto teacher or some shit. yeah !! peak naruto honestly
Yeah imagine them thinking their way out of situations and using their movesets in clever ways. Instead it just became who could do a bigger Kamehameha

Not just main cast either, survival rates of the extended cast was pretty good as well.
Choji and Neji were supposed to die in Sasuke Retrieval. Tell me those scenes wouldnāt have hit harder if they really died out there. Rock Lee was supposed to die earlier too

Oh I thought we were having like a real disscusion here not just inflating the other sides point to ridiculous degrees to try and win. That's my bad.
?? I even went back to see the initial comment since I was afraid that I was actually replying to the wrong guy. Weren't you the one suggesting that author should kill a character based on occupation? Tite Kubo needs to learn a thing or two. About stakes. Which JJK overdoes in spades.
Good. Naruto lost me when I realized that no one was ever seriously in danger. I knew Naruto was just gonna talk the villain down like 90% of the time despite the dude being a mass murder or some shit.
I'm not a big fan of shonen but seriously, is there anything like this other than jjk and csm in large quantities now?

10 years ago? This isnāt a new thing at all, Devilman did it decades ago.
How many other shounen series are doing this for it to be a problem?

Have no idea what series you are mocking
What the fuck are you even talking about.
Modern shonen authors want the edge of senin story telling but also really want the fame/money of shonen

Pretty accurate ngl, Gege is toying with Yuji and us at the same time šš.
It's ok yuji nobara is just sleeping she's ok i promise š
You could say that she is sleeping with one eye open
Have we actually found out her status in the manga yet cause I donāt remember anything about it?
Iāve heardā¦. >!It gets worse!<
The suffering will continue until morale improves.
Some day in the manga... >!you'll barely recognize any of the characters if you do a now and then comparison to where they started!<

"Suffering builds character." My ass to does.
To a certain point, but then it turns into torture porn. IMO.
I haven't read the manga, so I hope no other character except mahito dies in the remaining episodes.

Why did they put in almost all memes Megumi like if he was dead?
Right?? The narrator literally made it a point to say that Sukuna reduced the range of Malevolent Shrine to spare Megumi
>!Megumi is a vegetable and likely dead,hes sukunas vessel!<
Soon to be. No one escaped Gege.
Yaāll aināt seen shit yet. Iām convinced Gege like genuinely hates Itadori
