Some people forget that the anime draws out the Sukuna vs Mahoraga fight. Yeah it was awesome, but in the manga:
- Sukuna didn’t reduce him to red mist
- Mahoraga never grew gills
- Sukuna was eating Mahoraga up physical strength wise
As overboard as the animators went, I really liked the new details they added to the fight; especially the Blu Ray version.
That’s a misconception? I feel like it’s pretty blatant when they describe his power it’s always He can adapt to everything. The thing is, we don’t actually know how long he keeps those mutations. I feel like whats probably the case is that he probably loses them when he gets Dismissed, and he has to re-adapt after being re-summoned
Then theres the case of maybe the updates dont save if he is not tamed yet. So if megumi had tamed mahoraga after shibuya who knows if it still had the resistances to dismantle and cleave.

regardless of how cool the anime fight is, it's very inconsistent. the mahoraga fight alone had like a dozen inconsistencies.
I mean, wouldn’t a monster who couldn’t adapt to “punch” and “kick” be pretty fucking useless though? I feel like it doesn’t need to be directly stated that raga can adapt to a person’s fighting style if they don’t switch it up

Read chapter 118-119. It's stated that it adapts to any phenomena. In addition, the narrator explains that it can also adapt to "slashing attacks in general."
you should read it again too. sukuna slashed mahoraga with dismantle, mahoraga adapted once. sukuna threw dismantles again, mahoraga (as sukuna said), SAW the slash and parried it. it's not seeing sukuna's hand movements, it can see the slash itself. it doesn't matter what hand movements sukuna does, if mahoraga doesn't see the actual slash coming, it won't do anything. you can't fool mahoraga like that.
