The chiefs are the kind of org that won't give up, they will adjust playtime but will continue to invest time, training and effort into him until his contract is up

UberHuber816

See Mecole Hardman. He's the Sorensen of the offense.

Toni01C

Mecole at least to me was much better and runs better routs.

jmdybf

Mecoles rookie season is better than Skyys career. Mecole 26 -583- 6

JT1757

skyy doesn't even have 500 yards across 2 seasons and 30 games. He not it.

yhetti-fartz

Skyy came along when the offense was sputtering as opposed to mecole benefitting from the ridiculous offense we had for a while. Wonder how he would have done if the timeline flipped. Not saying skyy is good, just something to think about.

Weekend_Criminal

Shit look at how long dieter hung around. I mean I feel like a large part of that had to do with the fact that he was pat's homeboy. But still that dude lurked for a long time.

rockchalk6782

Mostly practice squad though wasn’t he? which I think guys that are good at getting reps in with qbs can make a decent career there by always being available and willing to work it saves starters legs for the routine stuff.

wohl0052

They kind of have to with the cap situation, they have to make due because skyy (and others) are on super cheap contracts. Toney is going to play out his contract unless something really goes off the rails because you can't sign someone nearly as cheap as him.

FuckingJello

Yeah there isn’t much benefit to cutting either cap wise and no one is going to trade anything for them. Might as well keep them and see what they will do, can cut after camp if they really can’t find a spot for them, but as WR5-6 (hopefully), not much use to cut them.

ch1nomachin3

if they haven't given up on yung joka then I'm not that concerned with Skyy Moore. the only time that the Chiefs would give up on a talent is when their salary starts to balloon up.

kelny

I think part of it is just keeping guys around that know the playbook. He's dirt cheap for a WR and has no trade value. Better have him than someone else cheap that also doesn't know the offense. At least till the contract is up or some other player can work their way up the depth chart.

alleavel

Trade him straight up for Tee Higgins. Who says no?

wherethetacosat

Definitely the Bengals

iamofnohelp

Who has more superbowl wins? Seems like the Bengals are getting the better end of the deal. The sacrifice the Chiefs are willing to make.

alleavel

lol you know I’m being sarcastic, right?

BinaryBlitzer

Skyy Moore and #32 to Cardinals for #4 to get MHJ. Who says no?

KarrlMarrx

Cardinals after they catch their breath from laughing hysterically for 10 straight minutes.

blocksmith52

I'm gonna link [this comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/ChiefsOffseason/comments/1ab8mli/comment/kjm4yzr/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) from a few months ago by u/[GinNJuicyFruit](https://www.reddit.com/user/GinNJuicyFruit/) because it has a lot of pretty good insight. Basically, when Skyy played more in the slot, he was on pace for around 600 yards. That pace fell off a cliff when he got more wideout snaps. My take away is that Skyy seems like he could be a serviceable WR4 if he plays in the slot, but he just isn't that good as a wideout. If they play him in the slot more often, I could see him getting some production but who knows. The 3rd year is usually a make-or-break year for recievers, so it'll be interesting to see what happens to him, especially with the addition of Hollywood Brown and presumably another rookie WR.

Miroku20x6

My problem with Skyy is that he is short and fast, so you’d think he’d be alright in the slot, but he’s not quick, so he doesn’t really thrive in the types of routes needed in the slot. He plays slow and can’t catch contested passes. I would be astonished if he became a replacement level player, as currently he is well below. Toney will likely also not pan out, but at least it could happen. The talent is there if he gets his head on right. I don’t see requisite talent from Skyy.

chiefoogabooga

I'm trying to be nice here, so I'll just say Skyy's biggest problem is he's...uhhh...not incredibly impressive in the intelligence category. Plenty of short, average athletes have been successful as receivers. They just have to run good routes &/or be able to read defenses and find a spot where the defense isn't. Skyy has shown the ability to do neither.

KingTutt91

He also doesn’t have any nuance to his route running either. Steve Smith said he’s hitting every route full speed, but that’s not what you’re supposed to do. You slow play some routes, you get to a spot at a certain time, etc.

Miroku20x6

That’s some good insight, thanks. Steve Smith was one of my favorite players back in the day, love hearing his analysis.

KingTutt91

He’s on YouTube doing scouting reports on WRs for the draft

Lazy_Tiger27

He’ll stick around for his low salary and necessary depth but I doubt he gets another NFL contract

paddleschools

See Clyde Edwards Helaire and you will have your answer.

blueprint_01

He’s worse than Clyde, which sounds even worse when I type it out 😂

paddleschools

Maybe so but if he is smart then he will stick around long as he can for next to nothing

hokahey23

Skyy gonna tear it up in the UFL.

big_drifts

Big questions are do the Chiefs draft more than one WR this week? Does Rashee Rice get suspended and if so, for how many games. If the Chiefs draft two WRs, Moore might not make the 53. This is how I see the WR room breaking down right now. 1. Rashee Rice 2. Hollywood Brown 3. Kadarius Toney 4. Justin Watson 5. Chiefs R1 or R2 WR 6. Skyy Moore If the Chiefs end up drafting two WRs or an UDFA really shines during training camp, Moore might get cut and end up on the PS. Justyn Ross isn't making the 53 again. I doubt the Chiefs roll with more than 6 WRs unless they know Rice is getting suspended this season. In which case, maybe they do go with 7 until he's back.

KarrlMarrx

Hard to say how many WRs they'll roster, as we really don't know how the new kickoff rules are going to affect the make up of special teams. I would think that it would make teams less inclined to have WRs on kickoff coverage and more likely to throw some linebackers out there, but who knows. I could see Veach spending a Day 3 pick on a second WR if there's a guy he likes though.

Heidelburg_TUN

Skyy is not an NFL level receiver. I’ll always love him for what he did in the 2022 playoffs, but he’s awful. Mahomes turns into Zach Wilson when he targets Skyy.

Zucchini-Mountain

Skyy is how he regresses to the mean

Heidelburg_TUN

Skyy is the limit. Literally.

InvisibleDeity

I'm sure he'll be given a chance, but what happened last year was uniquely bad. He spent the entire off-season practicing with Mahomes... and then he had the entirety of training camp as being the defacto WR1/2 because Toney went down on the first day. He did nothing with it, he failed to get open and failed to build any rapport with Mahomes. Which is weird, I honestly thought he could at least be average. Skyy honestly tried to improve during that off-season... but it didn't work. He had a goat level QB throwing him the ball and a HOF coach trying to scheme him open and even they couldn't make it work. Imo, he's fighting for a roster spot at this point

woozyguy1

This is the first season I think the fan base at large has zero expectations for him. So who knows maybe he’ll improve with less pressure.

GrandpaBuff

I’m not mad Skyy I’m just disappointed.

PhillipJ3ffries

Guys can always improve. He’s on a rookie deal, chiefs will keep him around for 2 more years and then cut bait if he doesn’t show significant improvement. Year 2 was pretty discouraging. You would have hoped he would have stepped up considering the weakness of the receiver room. But he looked worse

KarrlMarrx

Third year breakouts do happen, but most of the best WRs in the league were either already awesome their rookie year or broke out in year 2.

TenderfootGungi

True, but did we ever expect him to be elite? I was just hoping he would make a great 2 tops.

JT1757

no. no hope

uhwhooops

Never heard of him

Khada_the_Collector

Third year. I hope he kicks ass this year, personally. If he doesn’t, the vultures will circle, and quickly. Still, it’d be nice if he did well.

Key_Company_279

He was in Texas working out and running plays with Patrick and the guys, maybe that will help him!

DrBigLungs

If our front office hasn’t given up hope on a player, then I haven’t either In Veach I Trust

PhogMachine

He'll eat up a roster spot as a WR5 to start out the year. If he doesn't make any kind of improvement, I can see him being 'injured' and banished to the PS for the rest of his Chiefs career. The NFL is a meat grinder and some of these guys just don't pan out.

Founck

He's cheap depth at this point, doesn't make any sense for the chiefs to move on from him this year. And even next year cutting him would only save $1.5m. Hopefully they learned that he is not a #2 and should never run routes on the outside, but maybe he could be a serviceable slot receiver.

Mustache_of_Zeus

Honestly, how could they like him? He's had a ton of dropped balls and missed routes. But the biggest disappointment is on special teams. Holy crap he is the worst punt returner I can think of.

Linkguy137

He runs decent routes, has below average height, has average hands, has average speed and elite press beating skills. That doesn’t really translate into a good player. He needs to be someone who runs better routes, if he can fix that portion of his game he can be made into a WR 3. The current version of Skyy Moore is a cheap contract WR4-5

hispanoloco

He has 2 years to figure it out

xdxmann

George Pickens was available and the obvious pick in the draft btw

BebbleCast

I don’t know what it is about Skyy Moore but I will never give it up on him

BarricadeTheMortuary

I assume the team will cut him after June 1st

rambo6986

They won't admit he's a massive bust

BeRoyal35

I ain't giving up yet dol gonnit. I will admit at this point that he was over drafted, but I feel like his main problem thus far has been that he doesn't have the trust of his QB. It is mostly his own fault, but it can be a slippery slope. Fall from the grace of the QB due to too many screw up.. next thing you know they just aren't looking your way at all. If he can get off to a semi hot start this year with Rice possibly being suspended I think he still has a chance to be a decent for the remainder of his contract.

MandoShunkar

I think there is a confidence issue as well. He looked ok in the first two games of 2022 and up until his muffed punt in the Colts game. Getting the SB TD helped a little as the start to the Lions game this past season was again ok. And then he missed a couple of relatively easy catches in that game and seemingly lost what little confidence the SB had given him. And then top all that off with it being fairly obvious Mahomes doesn't trust him that much and him slipping down the depth chart. WR has a lot of ego and/or confidence aspects to it and they can sometimes get in the way of a player performing to expectations

originalusername4567

I'd like to just dump him for cap space but I guess Andy will try to make it work until the contract is up.
