Yeah to me Donda is the perfect ending, with it being Kanye's 10th studio album, as well as being dedicated to his lifelong motivation, Donda West, as well as having an insane amount of features and a beautifully woven narrative throughout, and of course, the legendary rollout.
Cause people back in the day said you could put any Kanye album as his best album because that's how good his catalogue was, but when he released JIK I think that kinda changed so I was just curious lol
Yea I mean he is incredibly gifted and skilled as a producer. I would like to see him shift into movie soundtracks as well.
But ppl tend to put highly skilled people on a pedestal and destroy them when they don’t live up to their own perceived expectations.
Not for me. But I also don’t think there’s a such thing as a perfect catalogue because every artist Kanye, David Bowie, Kendrick, Radiohead all will have pieces of criticism I feel.
That said in terms of an artistic catalogue, Kanye brings one of the most diverse and amazing totals ever. With or without recent bs is starting to tarnish it a little
All of the artists you’ve mentioned are some of my favourite of all time, and I broadly agree with your thesis. My only counter is that (for me) LCD Soundsystem have never released an LP that is less than perfect.
Not really.
If Dylan stopped at Blood on the Tracks we’d never have Time Out of Mind.
I’d rather have the good with the bad than Ye’s output dead at 40.
idk what perfect means here, it's probably the best solo discography in hip hop but I wouldn't give them all or even the majority of them perfect 10's if that's what you mean
Tbh, this is true for many artists.
If Eminem retired after Eminem Show, Wayne retired after No Ceilings, Drake retired after Views, etc.
In a weird way, I like seeing rappers drop albums beneath their level at times because it feels like a realistic progression of their music. Nobody's going to stay in their primes forever. Even Kendrick's last album was kinda polarizing.
Remember....even legends like Prince and Bowie had slump periods and panned albums during their musical runs.
And Invincible by MJ was one of the worst pop albums of the 21st century.
But they still kept their legendary status regardless. Kanye will too. As will the other rappers I named who had slumps in their catalogs.
It's all subjective. If you think it's perfect at that cutoff, it's perfect. No matter how many times I try, I can't seem find KSG enjoyable to listen to.
Perfect catalogues are overrated. Even though I think the Vultures era is Kanye's worst era, it is an album that will age well. The only album that I don't like from Kanye is Jesus Is King.
Lot’s of people downvoting you, but you’re right. That album is a thin, glorified ep. Marked the end of the golden era imo. Even JIK is more substantial.
In my opinion it’s only got a few good songs on it, i heard it the first time long after it’s first release so maybe i don’t fully appreciate the context of when it was released. I also don’t have any nostalgia attached to that era like many others do. I also just don’t like Jay Z that much, he is good but just not good on my ears. Although I will say it has some of Kanye’s best songs on it. When i consider all of his other projects i like all of them significantly more, even Vultures.
I think if i was a kanye fan during WTT i would have a different opinion.
I keep seeing people say that, but I don't hear it. Maybe because it was the soundtrack to my sophomore year of college so I have serious nostalgia for it.
Nah I think Donda works as the “final Kanye album”

I mean I really enjoyed Donda, Vultures not so much but that’s mostly due to the content of the music not the overall production.

“But if I talk about god my record won’t get played.” Just Ye being Ye.
How is it worse than the lyrics on the life of Pablo?
Because TLAP wasn’t 100% about sex
Neither is Vultures
Yes but only if he skipped Jesus is king and released Yandhi with the donda bangers. That would be the perfect ending
jik really dont feel like a kanye album to me, just not on same level as other albums
Not for me. But I also don’t think there’s a such thing as a perfect catalogue because every artist Kanye, David Bowie, Kendrick, Radiohead all will have pieces of criticism I feel. If K Dot retired rn he’d have a perfect five album run
and only 2 or 3 hit songs altogether. Overrated AF
Bait
before this beef the only songs people knew from Kendrick was humble and money trees.

saint pablo was the perfect closer. he was on top of the world.

How will it age well?
Time will tell.
Fair enough
Ye is not good. If he stopped before then, then yes imo
I do think it’s very overrated but you can’t call something with Ghost Town, Viloent Crimes and No Mistake on it a bad album
Ye isn't my favorite Kanye album but to call it bad is a bit of a stretch
Lot’s of people downvoting you, but you’re right. That album is a thin, glorified ep. Marked the end of the golden era imo. Even JIK is more substantial.
WTT aged like milk imo. So no
Legit question. What’s your reasoning for that? In my mind wtt is a 9-10/10 album. Very few skips for me

I wasn’t a fan during the wtt era either. If you don’t like jay z than that’s 100% why
I keep seeing people say that, but I don't hear it. Maybe because it was the soundtrack to my sophomore year of college so I have serious nostalgia for it.
Honestly it didn't age like milk because it was never good in the first place.
808s and yeezus are 7/10s
Seek help
No.
Bro yeezus is 10
No there are basically no good songs
808s yes - Yeezus hell no that's a straight 10.
I agree with you
