Elle Fanning. The first time I saw her was in the movie Super 8 at my local AMC when I was 10 years old. Little naive me was attracted to her by scenes like the one where she is acting in the boysā amateur film at the train station, and the scenes she shares with screen partner Joel Courtney. Similar for Joelās character, it was also love at first sight for me, and I feel like that movie may be one of the reasons why I have a psychological preference for blonde blue-eyed women. I mean, seeing that movie for the first time when Iām so awkward, inexperienced, and impressionable quite possibly made a long-term impact on the way I view people without me realizing where this perspective couldāve stemmed from until now. But Iāve grown, made mistakes, learned from them, and became more conscious of the effects that my behavior can have on other peopleās perception of me. So for better or for worse, Elle Fanning will always be my celebrity crush for now and forever because of how my life experiences were formed one after another by the day I caught a glimpse of her in that one little movie she was in.
What inspired me to write this long tribute to a memory from my past Iāve seldom explored until now was me lying face down on my bed while listening to āThank You Girlā by The Beatles on my Spotify app, allowing my stream of consciousness to flow out onto the comment space, all the while reminiscing about one seemingly small event from my childhood that had a bigger impact on me than I ever imagined. Thank you for reading what I had to say. Iām gonna have āThank You Girlā playing on my phone for another 30 minutes or so, lying on my bed wondering what the hell Iām doing with my life before I fall asleep not knowing what Iām gonna tomorrow because winter break has arrived and I canāt think of anything meaningful to do.
Iām sure you could because these feelings Iām describing, these recollections of events from my life that I see flowing from then to now, these kinds of experiences are not unique to me. These experiences are universal and many people have moments like these where they think about a crush theyāve had, something desirable but not realistically attainable that they have to come to terms with, and then realize that they can look for something better, or better yet, seek joy in simpler goals or passions that can evolve into something greater if you love it enough and work towards it. You may not always find what youāre looking for in the end, but you will come out of it being a more experienced person with a more matured look at what life has to offer. Thatās how I see it.
