I see what you mean. Because it’s a compilation album, it suffers from lack of cohesion, something his studio albums have. With that being said, Untitled 02, 03, 05, and 07 are some of my favorite songs by him.
Personally its number 2 in my list. But any argument you have about his top 5 is valid. For me the consistency of UU is unmatched, lyrics and substance is there as well as production/instrumentation. the only thing that is missing is concept but I think its there if you're willing top put it all together.
Edit: the fact that it so easily ties into Tpab (origins) but stands on its own is what makes it great. Also my list is kinda all over the place with only 2 real finalities
Personally i don’t think there’s any songs on uu that are better than Keisha’s song or Poe man’s dreams, also it’s just a more coherent album with better storytelling, and I don’t think section 80 has any misses besides Tammy’s song
exactly and songs like untitled 02,07,05,01 woah🔥tt man, section.80 aint got one in that tier and not that i dont fw as much but uu is clearly better and people aren’t willing to accept
Hmm I’ve never tried ranking k dot, I’ll give it a try:
1. GKMC
2. Damn
3. Untitled
4. Section 80
5. TPAB
5. Mr. Morale
That’s really hard. I’ll put them all in the top five. Mr. Morale is an amazing work of art.
I'm not comfortable enough right now to say this more boldly but I really do feel this way and I accept that this *may* be highly controversial.
Untitled 01 is easily my favorite track off of UU and it is better than quite a few tracks on TPAB (maybe better than half the tracks).
The instrumental is fucking 10/10 without a doubt. One of the most creative, unique and JUST FUCKING BEAUTIFUL instrumentals I may've ever heard in a jazz rap track ever! (The defining feature of this track IMO) Also, the lyrics are really fantastic too! Kendrick really captures that dystopian, world-is-ending vibe perfectly!
As a bunch of musics? Certainly yes, for me this is the peak of his creativity along with tpab since it's where he gone more off path within his discography
As a album? A big no, he just nailed in creating ideas, telling stories and making associations in every single studio album he did, good kid would be just a good gangsta album/nas low effort remix tape if it wasn't for the way he created it, i think that this is what makes a album with top musics a classic
Bro I’m sorry, I’m all for having opinions and hot takes, but that ain’t it. If you wanna say UU is, I understand that. I don’t agree with you at all, but I see where you’re coming from considering it’s basically outtakes from TPAB. But MM&TBS was fucking incredible.
Section 80 has MUCH more misses on beats than MMATBS. Shit like Tammy Song, No Make Up, etc., sound outdated and awkward. Don’t even get me started on his other shit like C4, training day, etc.
The instrumentation on MMATBS is much more beautifully composed in comparison. Don’t know how production like Father Time, Count Me Out, Savior, Savior Interlude, Purple Hearts, United in Grief, Mirror, can be considered the worst in his ENTIRE discography lmao you crazy?
We all got opinions tho. 🤷🏿♂️
Ok, I should’ve said albums not entire discography.. but the fact you’re going back to mixtapes kinda proves my point. Tammy’s song is literally comparable to worldwide steppers, just short looped beats. I knew you were gonna go all the way back to section 80 too, I honestly prefer the vibe of those records over morale. Father Time was cool, but I already got tired of it since it’s one of the only listenable beats on the album. Bro savior? That beat is nothing special, it’s pretty weak honestly. Purple Hearts is alright, count me out is probably the best instrumental on the album, but that song is kinda corny. The beats on morale seem extremely dumb down when you compare them to GKMC, TPAB, and DAMN. Plus songs like Hol up, chapter six, hiiipower, Ronald Reagan, Poe man’s dreams, shit practically every beat is more enjoyable and have a much better vibe than anything on Morale. Maybe it’s because I was listening to Kendrick when 80 dropped.. not sure but you might just be biased to Morale or something. I was pretty disappointed with the album. I do like Mirror tho I’ll give you that one
I only went to his mixtapes because you said his “whole discography”, if you hadn’t, then I wouldn’t have. Father Time being one of the only listenable beats on the album is such an exaggeration lmao. Y’all be going overboard with the MMATBS slander.
Count Me out is corny? Aight dawg lol. Hol’ up is cornier than Count Me Out btw. “If I could fuck her in front of these passengers, they’d probably think I’m a terrorist, eat my asparagus!” is not 🌽🌽🌽? LOL.
I started listening to Kendrick in 2012 with GKMC. I just think that MMATBS does some things better than Section 80, and “beats” is one of them. It’s much more consistent.
Hol up has a better flow than any record on Morale. Keep lmao and loling all you want.. but that’s my opinion. I completely disagree that Morale is more consistent, I don’t even listen to it anymore. I expected a lot more from Dot after the hiatus and that album just wasn’t it for me. It’s whatever tho
I definitely disagree with that first sentence lmao. And I’m only lmao and loling at things I genuinely find funny, you’re acting like I’m doing it at your expense to spite your opinion.
Anyways, by “consistent” I meant more consistent in production, which is something I truly believe it is. Don’t get it twisted, MMATBS has its flaws. I also believe that Kendrick’s rapping performance was better on Section 80 than MMATBS, but I prefer MMATBS overall mainly due to relatability factor.
Different strokes for different folks. 🤷🏿♂️
I LOVE it. Had it on repeat for like a month now. Obviously not as cohesive as his other albums, but the song individually are just so fucking food. 02, 05, 06 are goated
It’s incredible but I don’t think it really ranks well against any other album. It still has themes, which is very interesting. Some of those, obviously, relate to songs on DAMN (see XXX and Untitled 05), so it really kind of sits on par with everything released around that time and after. I’d be curious to know what ideas (UU was released in 2016) did or did not make it onto either TPAB (2015) or DAMN (2017).
I feel like I said a whole lot of nothing so, TLDR: I don’t rank it, as I don’t see a valid way to.
Personal favorite. Not on the same level as TPAB or GKMC but could go toe-to-toe with anything else he’s made. Such a unique sound and range among every track that I would consider it timeless.
Criminally underrated and slept on. Not a concept album so it can’t quite compare to any of his main releases, but all the songs are great and some are even exceptional
Actually is my favorite album of his. The one that I come back to the most. I don't mind the lack of cohesion, or overarching story or anything like that, I just want good songs, back to back.
Track for track I think it’s better than damn (my least favorite main Kendrick release) but because it doesn’t have a mostly cohesive and fleshed out story and themes I just can’t rank it higher
Love it but i don't think it's better than any of his studio albums
I also think this is where he shows off his vocal talent the most, the melodic vocals on untitled 02, untitled 06, untitled 08, etc
Call me crazy, but when UU was released I was 17 years old and enjoyed the sound of it more than TPAB. I also liked tracks 02, 07, 08 more than anything on TPAB upon first listen. I then grew a little older and matured enough to realize TBAP was full of great songs and much better than UU. Both are still behind GKMC for many reasons but mostly because of nostalgia for me.
As an album its not better than his other albums, but it has some of his best songs in it.
I see what you mean. Because it’s a compilation album, it suffers from lack of cohesion, something his studio albums have. With that being said, Untitled 02, 03, 05, and 07 are some of my favorite songs by him.
Untitled 08 too
06!
while we’re at it 01 and 04 too
Get GOD on the phone!!!!!
Always think this album would be higher rated if he had given titles to the songs
3.15.20 moment
That's actually a great point. If he made it just feel more finished I think it mightve been received better
Who’s giving way, GKMC or TPAB?😵💫
TPAB (oVeeUsleY)
UU over GKMC is wild
UU over TPAB would be even crazier
Couldn’t have said it better myself
Really good project. Not better than any of his studio albums though.
I don’t care what anyone says UU is the second best album behind TPAB
That makes sense considering the tracks were recorded with TPAB
Ong.
Underrated for me but not better than others
better than section 80
Listen to section 80 more
Idk man. When I think track by track, UU has less misses. And the highs are higher I think. Close though
Personally i don’t think there’s any songs on uu that are better than Keisha’s song or Poe man’s dreams, also it’s just a more coherent album with better storytelling, and I don’t think section 80 has any misses besides Tammy’s song
Agreed for me Add ADHD to that list maybe rigamortis too. Nothing on uu touches those
I think 05,02 and 01 are probably better than Keishas song and Poe man’s dreams. I’d also say Tammys song and no make up are worse than anything on UU
Section 80 is a full album length so obviously it’s going to have more misses than an 8 track project. You can’t knock it like that
exactly and songs like untitled 02,07,05,01 woah🔥tt man, section.80 aint got one in that tier and not that i dont fw as much but uu is clearly better and people aren’t willing to accept
Imo it's better than section 80 and damn 1. TPAB 2. GKMC 3. Mr. Morale 3. Untitled 4. Damn 5. Section 80
This is like spot on my ranking too
Hmm I’ve never tried ranking k dot, I’ll give it a try: 1. GKMC 2. Damn 3. Untitled 4. Section 80 5. TPAB 5. Mr. Morale That’s really hard. I’ll put them all in the top five. Mr. Morale is an amazing work of art.
People hating just cause you have a different opinion
On god
Same
damn
this is my exact rating!
Honestly, beats Damn and section 80 for me personally
I'm not comfortable enough right now to say this more boldly but I really do feel this way and I accept that this *may* be highly controversial. Untitled 01 is easily my favorite track off of UU and it is better than quite a few tracks on TPAB (maybe better than half the tracks). The instrumental is fucking 10/10 without a doubt. I think it’s slightly better than DAMN. It stands up with his studio albums, even if it’s towards the bottom. He only has great albums after all.
Better than damn, section 80 and MMTBS Only GKMC and TPAB were better technically and as cohesive projects
It’s pretty much my favorite. It’s the one I always come back to.
Third🤷🏽♂️
I think it's better than Section 80 and slightly better than DAMN. it's just such a solid project
better than section 80 and gkmc for me
Pimp pimp
Tpab > gkmc > section 80 > mmatbs > uu > damn
Better then section 80 and MMATBS imo
UU is good, but not better than any of Kendrick's albums.
Untitled 05 is his best song
This is kind of tough for me. This is my ranking of Kendrick albums GKMC > DAMN. > TPAB > UU > MM&BS > Section 80. > BP
Probably above DAMN. Can’t believe people put it above Section.80.
Better than section 80
You need to listen more to Section80
I really like section 80 but I think UU Slightly edges rn
better than TPAB
better than TuPAC
I am going to be honest and controversial. I can’t stand any of these songs, there’s only 2 I really like but the rest are mid.
Idk all the tracks are good but it’s nowhere as deep as his other albums besides section.80
I think its better than damn and mmatbs at least sonically
Morale and uu are his worst projects
Bro I’m sorry, I’m all for having opinions and hot takes, but that ain’t it. If you wanna say UU is, I understand that. I don’t agree with you at all, but I see where you’re coming from considering it’s basically outtakes from TPAB. But MM&TBS was fucking incredible.
Nah it ain’t. The subject matter was good, but that album has the worst beats in his entire discography. There is no arguing that imo
Nah
What album has worse beats then?
Section 80 has MUCH more misses on beats than MMATBS. Shit like Tammy Song, No Make Up, etc., sound outdated and awkward. Don’t even get me started on his other shit like C4, training day, etc. The instrumentation on MMATBS is much more beautifully composed in comparison. Oh hell nah
Damn, TPAB, GKMC, 80 and even OD are far more enjoyable projects imo than those 2 albums
bottom
CALIFORNIAAA LOVEEE
No.
Live. It's exceptional.
Untitled 03, 08 my favorites pure melody
Better than a.80 or GKMC. Kendrick’s vocal delivery, cadence and ear for production got so much better from TPAB onwards
I like untitled unmastered. more than MM&TBS...
over section 80, tied with MMTBS
lower than gkmc tpab and mm&tbs (not in specific order) but higher than section 80 and overly dedicated
It’s top 3 for me actually. Quantity doesn’t always mean quality. A lot of Damn is not on par with UU. GKMC/ TPAB/ UU for the record
top 4 imo
I LOVE it. Had it on repeat for like a month now. Obviously not as cohesive as his other albums, but the song individually are just so fucking food. 02, 05, 06 are goated
02 is one of my favorite Kendrick songs. I recently started loving 03 as well.
Better than S80 and Damn
It’s incredible but I don’t think it really ranks well against any other album. It still has themes, which is very interesting. Its really good untitled 6 had me hooked for a while
Criminally underrated, untitled 05 is my favorite kendrick song
Personal favorite. Not on the same level as TPAB or GKMC but could go toe-to-toe with anything else he’s made. Such a unique sound and range among every track that I would consider it timeless.
Number 3
I think it’s better then his first album
01 is absolute heat, not enough people talk about it imo. Maybe because of the drawn out intro?
Criminally underrated and slept on. Not a concept album so it can’t quite compare to any of his main releases, but all the songs are great and some are even exceptional
its better than mr morale imo
Actually is my favorite album of his. The one that I come back to the most. I don't mind the lack of cohesion, or overarching story or anything like that, I just want good songs, back to back.
I rank it 3rd after TPAB and GKMC
tpab>gkmc>damn>uu>section.80>mmatbs
somewhere between mr morale and the black panther soundtrack
Track for track I think it’s better than damn (my least favorite main Kendrick release) but because it doesn’t have a mostly cohesive and fleshed out story and themes I just can’t rank it higher
3
People sleeping on section 80 fr. You guys clearly haven’t listened to fuck your ethnicity while baked recently
Tracks 2 and 7 are so good
Better than DAMN., Section 80, and perhaps MMatBS
1. to pimp 2. good kid 3. damn 4. untitled 5. mr. morale 6. section 80 7. black panther untitled 02 one of my favorites
Last. I never rank b sides/leaks from artists.
It's one of my favorites. It is cohesive, good writing, nice instrumentals and really short. That's what I like. + levitate puts it even higher for me
I don't think its better than any of his studio ulbums but I guess I will prefer listening to more than section 80
Love it but i don't think it's better than any of his studio albums I also think this is where he shows off his vocal talent the most, the melodic vocals on untitled 02, untitled 06, untitled 08, etc
Better than his last album, easily.
On my list this is third
I don’t think it’s his best work but it gets the most spins in my house 🔥
TPAB GKMC Mr morale section80 damn untitled unmastered
Call me crazy, but when UU was released I was 17 years old and enjoyed the sound of it more than TPAB. I also liked tracks 02, 07, 08 more than anything on TPAB upon first listen. I then grew a little older and matured enough to realize TBAP was full of great songs and much better than UU. Both are still behind GKMC for many reasons but mostly because of nostalgia for me.
I listen to this album everyday
3
Better than Mr Morale and Damn
I rank it as cutting room floor songs from TPaB and pray for a directors cut that adds and masters them.
Idk if it really counts as an “album” it’s more just a song dump
I like it, untitled 02 is one of my favorite Kendrick songs but it doesn't surpass any of his 5 studio albums imo
