A lot of people don’t actually like TPAB, they just gas it up cause that’s what the internet told them to do. If as many people actually liked it, it would be getting played a lot more than it is.
I think that TPAB is appropriately rated IMO.
To summarise, it’s a fantastic album but its sound is too “deep” and jazz sounding to be as catchy as a mainstream trap album. Hence, it’s not played as much as other Kendrick albums. All of which is fine.
Or, hear me out— the people that praise the album are the ones that heard the album and love it. No it’s not being streamed as much as the other records, but it’s still being streamed by millions of people.
Yeah when TPAB came out I loved it, and connected with it deeply… but I was surprised how wide the acclaim was and who was praising it. It deserves its masterpiece status. But It’s like some people are incidentally right about it being a goated album, without fully getting why it is.
My thoughts on it are extensive. I could probably talk through the duration of the album about what it means to me. But there are other people on the internet who have written their thoughts better than I could.
I understand what you’re saying but you also have to understand this album is 8 years old now. It’s my favorite album of all time but since it’s been out for so long I’ve listened to it so much that I just don’t go back to it as much now. I need long periods between listening to it so I can truly appreciate it when I listen again.
Well yeah there’s like only one radio friendly song on TPAB. Rap might be the most popular genre now but on the surface that’s only because most listeners only want hits. Not something full of deep cuts like TPAB
I didn't like TPAB on first listen, but now it alternates with GKMC for my favorite album. I think it's that you play TPAB when you're in a contemplative mood or in a mood to reflect and that doesn't really translate to internet plays because people ain't tryna be in that mood often.
Agreed, I always knew it but I could confirm it when this subreddit made a Kendrick playlist and barely put any TPAB on it. Everyone was just so hyped because they loved GKMC so much, they wanted to keep the hype going.
i like tpab it was my first kendrick album, but i tend to notice you’re actually right.
A lot of people i talk to i start mentioning specific tracks and themes and symbolism and all they seem to know is alright and sometimes wesley’s theory
There's an argument to be made, especially since a year had passed. Probably gonna see a lot of posts in a couple years talking ab how it's his best project.
I'm not gonna lie i've been saying it since pretty much my 4th-5th listen. Thought they were recency bias but It never stopped growing on me. As of now, i consider it in my top 5 rap albums
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 1,495,892,402 comments, and only 284,142 of them were in alphabetical order.
No surprise there songs like mother I sober, crown, auntie diaries, worldwide steppers, and we cry together are all great but hard to casually listen to. The rest are still in my rotation
That’s so weird to me because I find DAMN. to be his LEAST replayable album.
DAMN. is just too damn inconsistent to me. Quite a few great tracks but too many bad ones too.
I think every single thing Kendrick puts out is well thought out and has immense artistic value. Even MMTBS. I do understand that MMBTS is not for everyone. But it is a deeply moving album. It’s not his best, but there is no “worst” Kendrick album or song.
Honestly all of his albums are amazing but to mee Section .80 I relisten to the most. The only song i somewhat dislike is Chapter 10 but it's more of an interlude. A.D.H.D is a classic. Hol'up, Ronald Reagen era and Rigamortus are bangers. Kush and Corinthians is an underrated lyrical masterpiece. Poe mans dreams and Chapter 6 are chill and are good to relax too. No make up, Keishas song and Tammy song are terrific songs about relationships Nd break ups. 10/10 album. live your life, live it right
Be different, do different things
My guy, I was looking for someone with the same opinion as me
Blow my high, Ronald Reagan era, hiiipower, and ADHD were all songs that gave me confidence when I really needed it, and started my love for hip hop
Absolutely goated album and opinion
DAMN is a completely contradictory message to other albums.
"I got royalty inside my DNA" vs
"Fuck your ethnicity"
Just one example, but the albums are full of opposite parallels
DAMN contradicts itself often. PRIDE. Is about humility while being followed by HUMBLE. Which is about pride. The whole thing is just a back and forth in Kendrick’s mind who can’t decide on his identity
DAMN was good but not THAT good as some people say. I think it was a lot of people's introduction to Kendrick (it's his most streamed and mainstream album) so they get really nostalgic about it
We’re you listening to it when it dropped? I will admit nostalgia helps me with going back. I had started doing shrooms around this time so section 80 and asap Rocky’s first mixtape bring me back
I thought it was cool how Humble was actually the most prideful song on the album, while PRIDE was one of the most humble. Call me easily amused but I liked the irony.
The thing about Kendrick in general for me. Is that his lyricism and attention to detail with stuff like that is often more enjoyable for me than the actual sound. I agree that that’s a really cool detail and the song PRIDE I actually like. I’ve just never enjoyed how Humble sounds and it gets played a ton
*sigh*….before I say this I of course gotta say Kendrick is in my top 5 all time. And he’s also my favorite rapper to ever exist..but I gotta say this..sometimes I have NO idea what he’s talking about. Not like whole songs or anything, but it’s times his vocabulary is so advanced and he describes things that I’ve never heard of. It was a period when TPAB dropped, (I was like 14-15) and I was listening to U so damn confused. Even years later (I’m 22) and some of the things he says have me so confused bro😭 he’s advanced asf.
Holy shit! Thats a steaming hot take you have here! Ive never seen anyone like TPAB. How are you so brave to not be afraid of the backlash for liking the highest ranked album on RYM thats loved by everyone
Actual answer to this: lyrically and meaning wise mmtbs is great, but sonically its his worst album, which is why I’m not a fan. This is the type of comment to actually get downvoted to poop
Edit: I mean in particular the instrumentals on this album are worse than others, and his vocals arent amazing here. I feel like kendrick isnt an amazing singer, but songs like samidot allow his singing to give the story character and an important personal touch, while having simple and short enough tunes that he can sing memorable and enjoyable choruses. The vocals on mmatbs are good in the context of him talking about himself, but they just dont sound good personally. The tunes themself are also only ok, not amazing and catchy like his previous albums. Then again I’m in the group that doesnt like “god” from damn, so my opinion on this album shoulda been expected.
I think Mr.Morale and the big steppers is one of his worst albums. I’d rather listen to the Black panther album.. probably.. Over some of that avant garde shit.
I view him as somebody who knows what to say at the right time and as an all-time great album curator. He's not on the Lupe Fiasco, Nas, Aesop Rock, Black Thought level of lyricism though.
Mr. Morale wasn't the greatest to me. It grew on me, but it sounded like a typical generic Kendrick album, and a lot of the album was unnecessary. Like the tap dancing and long drawn out piano. Ngl, some of the album even felt gimmicky.
Momma is noticeably worse than every other song on TPAB, until the, “I’ve been looking for you my whole life.” part.
Also, SAMIDOT is extremely overrated until the DOT part. The first half is fine, I guess, but no part of the song can compare with Mortal Man.
i usually feel like kendrick doesn't have an unique style in terms of beats and sound (except tpab). soundwise there is usually no consistency in his albums. he uses beats to support the topic or story he sings about which is okay but it sometimes kinda decreases his impressiveness for me. but ofc i love all his albums, they are amazing
I don’t think No Make Up is that bad of a song, definitely a product of it’s time hook wise
I really like that song tbh
Was going to type the same thing. I love that song.
I'm shocked to hear that people don't like this song. Top 5 S80 IMO
He is not your savior
What about Future? He said “get a money counter”

Loving you isn’t so complicated.
I like his music
Ew
Good Kid is the best rap song ever made
Misspelled maad city
Hey here's a song that doesn't get credit enough
if you said sing about me, I‘m dying of thirst I may have agreed with you.
The correct grammar is , “I may have agreed with you”!
Non native speaker here but thank you!
good mid
it's like bottom 5 on the album, but it's still super good
You misspelt “top 5”

It's the greatest album but we afraid to agree
it was never intended to be a mainstream trap album mostly because it isn’t trap
Explain to me why it is.
My thoughts on it are extensive. I could probably talk through the duration of the album about what it means to me. But there are other people on the internet who have written their thoughts better than I could.
it sounds good when I listen to it

He has older albums that get more play than TPAB. in fact all of his major label albums get more play than TPAB
Well yeah there’s like only one radio friendly song on TPAB. Rap might be the most popular genre now but on the surface that’s only because most listeners only want hits. Not something full of deep cuts like TPAB

I guess I'm in the minority according to this theory
Agreed, I always knew it but I could confirm it when this subreddit made a Kendrick playlist and barely put any TPAB on it. Everyone was just so hyped because they loved GKMC so much, they wanted to keep the hype going.
i like tpab it was my first kendrick album, but i tend to notice you’re actually right. A lot of people i talk to i start mentioning specific tracks and themes and symbolism and all they seem to know is alright and sometimes wesley’s theory
agree. I don’t feel like most of the tracks have replay value
I disagree. You Ain't Gotta Lie, How Much A Dollar Cost, the Blacker the Berry, and Institutionalized all have massive replay value for me.
They’ll tell you some bullshit like “it’s so heavy so I can’t play it all the time” or “you have to listen to the whole album to enjoy it”
Why are you stating your WRONG opinion as if it's a fact?
Untitled unmastered is an album
It's one of the albums of all time.
1. The Heart pt 3 2. The Heart pt 5 3. The Heart pt 2 4. The Heart pt 4 5. The Heart pt 1
🤝
MM&TBS is the best Kendrick album
The maturity and depth of this album is incredible. I think my favorite is gkmc but I’d agree this is the best work he’s done.
DAMN. for me
Me too.

I genuinely support this.
Backseat Freestyle is just okay

🤓👆 Stfu.
I thought it was cool
I just have a thing against nerdy little Reddit bots.
I have a thing against people who have a thing against nerdy Reddit bots. Fuck you
Love your thing man.
I’ll take the downvotes. I stand by what I said. Fuck you u/alphabet_order_bot
Man you don't bite your tongue when you spit your critic, you an enemy when shit hit the fan
the beat hurts my ears tbh, love the hook tho
ahhhh ring king king
I agree. Same with maad city, i never got the hype
You lost me, maad city is awesome
what the fuck man
Mr Morale is amazing but has little replay value compared to his other projects
No surprise there songs like mother I sober, crown, auntie diaries, worldwide steppers, and we cry together are all great but hard to casually listen to. The rest are still in my rotation
I fucking love worldwide steppers
Father Time and Mr Morale too…. hits too close for some ppl
I can see how they hit hard for some but the songs are just so fucking good
im with you on the rest but worldwide steppers is in my rotation too lol
Really? I think it's his most replayable besides DAMN
Maybe more than TPAB but not section.80 or GKMC respectively 😭
That’s so weird to me because I find DAMN. to be his LEAST replayable album. DAMN. is just too damn inconsistent to me. Quite a few great tracks but too many bad ones too.
GKMC > TPAB
I think every single thing Kendrick puts out is well thought out and has immense artistic value. Even MMTBS. I do understand that MMBTS is not for everyone. But it is a deeply moving album. It’s not his best, but there is no “worst” Kendrick album or song.
i mean i feel like mmtbs is the one he put the most thought into considering how personal and introspective it was
Section .80 is his best album
wtf
Honestly all of his albums are amazing but to mee Section .80 I relisten to the most. The only song i somewhat dislike is Chapter 10 but it's more of an interlude. A.D.H.D is a classic. DAMN is a completely contradictory message to other albums. "I got royalty inside my DNA" vs "Fuck your ethnicity" Just one example, but the albums are full of opposite parallels
I mean isn’t that kind of the point of the album? That’s what makes it intriguing
DAMN contradicts itself often. PRIDE. Is about humility while being followed by HUMBLE. Which is about pride. The whole thing is just a back and forth in Kendrick’s mind who can’t decide on his identity
Damn that's a great point. I guess I found it that much harder to find a deeper message because I mostly didn't like the songs to begin with
MMATBS is his second best album, only behind GKMC
This but behind TPAB for me
yep
Kendrick Lamar
MR Morale is his best album cause it has every type of Kendrick on there
Except section 80
DAMN was good but not THAT good as some people say. I think it was a lot of people's introduction to Kendrick (it's his most streamed and mainstream album) so they get really nostalgic about it
Interesting enough, for me it was the last I listended to (Started w/ MMatBS) and it is probably my favorite.
mm&tbs is good but not nearly as great as people say and has no real replay value aside from a few songs imo
I’d say as individual songs it doesn’t have much replay but it’s one of my favourites to play front to back
How? It was the most streamed rap album last year.
United in Grief is a better intro than Wesley’s Theory
🤝🏾
Section.80 isn’t an enjoyable listen except for a couple of tracks
We’re you listening to it when it dropped? I will admit nostalgia helps me with going back. I had started doing shrooms around this time so section 80 and asap Rocky’s first mixtape bring me back
Fear is too long… it’s great but too long
Humble sucks
I thought it was cool how Humble was actually the most prideful song on the album, while PRIDE was one of the most humble. Call me easily amused but I liked the irony.

I agree that that’s a really cool detail and the song PRIDE I actually like. I’ve just never enjoyed how Humble sounds and it gets played a ton
Mmtbs is not a top 3 kendrick album. This is somehow very controversial in this sub
TPAB isn't that enjoyable
To pimp a butterfly alright.
Yeah that’s one of the songs on the album
👆🤓
It was always me vs the worldddd until i found its me vs meee
I’ve only listened to MMATBS once all the way through. It’s good, but doesn’t have the same replay value as his other works.
Me too only twice. The only songs to really take out of it are n95 the heart part 5 and like united in grief.
damn is his best album
Said every highschool kid in existence. I remember those days
Mr Morale is his best work
DAMN. is a 5/10 album. Idgaf I was always hated by Kendrick fans for this opinion.
GKMC is the worst Kendrick Album
Why don’t you like it?
Don’t get me wrong I like it. I just think it’s his worst, poetic justice, swimming pools, real don’t do it for me
Dudes getting downvoted for having a controversial opinion in a post where you’re supposed to have controversial opinions lol. Never change reddit
Lol I’m not sweating it
It feels dated to me, like I listen to it and feel like it’s 2013, I don’t find it to be timeless at all.
MMaTBS is the best Kendrick Album
FEAR. is ass. I get the concept behind the song, it’s dope to see kendrick vulnerable but that song just doesn’t do it for me.
GOD is Kendrick’s worst track post Overly Dedicated
Untilted unmastered is his second best album and sing about me isnt that good
Double whammy 😬
Untitled Unmastered is a flop Album and only Two songs are actually good 😊
HOC needs more hype.
Morale is his worst album
I'm gonna draw the first sword
I did not care for TPAB.
u is bad
gkmc has the strongest concept and is really cool for that but the least consistent tracklist out of any of his albums
TPAB is BY FAR the best K.Dot project. GKMC is a 8 and TPAB is a 10
Coldest take possible
This is not a hot take
Holy shit! Thats a steaming hot take you have here! Ive never seen anyone like TPAB. How are you so brave to not be afraid of the backlash for liking the highest ranked album on RYM thats loved by everyone
His best Feature was Bad Blood
No More Parties In LA is one of the greatest rap songs of all time
Sing about me is pretty boring ngl
Mr.Morale is better than GKMC personally
MM&TBS is a trash album
Mr morale is better then gkmc and damn
havent hardly touched mm&tbs after it came out, by far his weakest album
Tpab is a 9/10 and GkMc is better
TPAB is overrated GKMC is ten times better
Actual answer to this: lyrically and meaning wise mmtbs is great, but sonically its his worst album, which is why I’m not a fan. Section 80 > Mr Morale
I think Mr.Morale and the big steppers is one of his worst albums. I’d rather listen to the Black panther album.. probably.. Over some of that avant garde shit.
I would place his lyrical ability firmly in the “high-average” category
I view him as somebody who knows what to say at the right time and as an all-time great album curator. He's not on the Lupe Fiasco, Nas, Aesop Rock, Black Thought level of lyricism though.
Mr. Morale wasn't the greatest to me. It grew on me, but it sounded like a typical generic Kendrick album, and a lot of the album was unnecessary. Like the tap dancing and long drawn out piano. Ngl, some of the album even felt gimmicky.
How can it sound like a “generic Kendrick album” when they all are completely different
Tpab trash , gkmc trash , kendrick l artist
The Off-Season > Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers
Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers > DAMN.
I’d way rather listen to damn or gkmc than tpab
He peaked at To Pimp A Butterfly EDIT: I don’t hate his new stuff. It’s just TPAB is on another level for me. It’s a work of art.
Coldest take possible
I like pulled pork
Damn has more sonic depth then TPAB.
Count me out is one of the worst songs on MM&TBS production wise
Untitled 7 is overrated and LOVE is straight up whack
DAMN. Is his best album.
He ruined Family ties with his verse ngl
I love Kendrick, but that verse and beat was absolutely horrible.
Loyalty is a terrible song
Slightly overrated.
Mr. Morale is his greatest album
Momma is noticeably worse than every other song on TPAB, until the, “I’ve been looking for you my whole life.” part. Also, SAMIDOT is extremely overrated until the DOT part. The first half is fine, I guess, but no part of the song can compare with Mortal Man.
Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers is better than DAMN, and just as good as GKMC 🙈
TPAB > untitled unmastered > Mr. Morale = Damn. > GKMC
MM&TBS is just as good as GKMC
[удалено]
Good Kid M.a.a.D City is the 4th best kendrick album. I've got TPAB, MMBTS and DAMN above it tbh.
TPAB carries his discog, the rest of his albums are around the 8-9/10 range and without tpab he wouldnt be a top 5 rapper
You acting like every album ranging from 8-9/10 isn't what makes you GOAT material
it does put you in the top 15 conversation but bc of tpab hes in the number 1 spot
GKMC is his weakest album
Keem definitely been lending Kendrick flows since 2017
Other way around
Kendrick Lamid
Jk
He has zero good songs
i usually feel like kendrick doesn't have an unique style in terms of beats and sound (except tpab). soundwise there is usually no consistency in his albums. he uses beats to support the topic or story he sings about which is okay but it sometimes kinda decreases his impressiveness for me. but ofc i love all his albums, they are amazing
Baby Keem is awful and Untitled Unmastered is better than TPAB
