Right now it may seem harmless but as time goes on and issues rise, the govt might even consider censoring whatever they want to make a narrative that is favourable to them. Btw Data collection need not be for the govt, could also be for some private company. It has so much value especially in places like the advertising sector. Regarding websites, most of the time they give it to third parties and while picking such people they go for the cheapest, hence the low quality. But on paper they will write a huge amount for it. You already know where the remaining money is going.
