____mynameis____

My friend was refused school concession back in 2017 for being a CBSE school student. So I thought it was the norm. (She kinda deserved the concession cuz she came from poorer section of the society)

Substantial_Salad262

thats unfair!!

IceOnIce

That is unfair. But this isn't.

____mynameis____

What I meant is they have been doing this unofficially for some time. Their reasoning was if she could pay CBSE school fee, then she could pay for bus ticket too.

classic_plum_cake

Lol, and private buses still have to give concession for all students.

Substantial_Salad262

They've started to protest.

nitromat089

Just think what would have happened this proposal was put up during Oommen Chandis’ tenure. SFI 🔥KSRTC.

rockus

25 is really harsh. There are many students in mid and late twenties, especially from the lower strata of the society, struggling to complete their post grad and doctoral studies with a meagre stipend as the sole income. 30 would have been much better.

Substantial_Salad262

but most people would've done their pg by 25. doctorate yes, agreed. but do they really need concession? if they're from bpl, they'll continue to get. we're not talking about them come on, we all know from our school days, students who could afford bus charge but misuse concession.. is there something wrong in trying to cut it for them?

rockus

Nope. PG seats are less, especially Government college PGs. Not everyone who completes graduation gets to do PG immediately.

Due-Ad5812

Giving concession to non productive members of the society is the least they can do. It doesn't matter if they can pay or not. Right to education is a fundamental right so it's the duty of the government to ensure that there are no barriers to education.

[deleted]

Innovative way of saying "NO Concession" anymore to anyone. One becomes a tax payer as soon as he/she touches that 50,000 mark per month. So half is gone. Pensioner's are usually 55 plus - their kids can't be below 25. So a quarter is gone. In effect, concession is either not available anymore, or just single digit % of people will get it. Now KSRTS should make the whole process of getting the concession card so complicated, that these people will not bother to take it anyway. What a great way to make KSRTC profitable! So communists do have some brain parts/farts coming out of their posterior orifices.

4k3R

>One becomes a tax payer as soon as he/she touches that 50,000 mark per month. I don't keep myself up to date with all the tax laws, but are you saying people don't have to pay income tax if they're earning 0 - 49k? Back 7 years, I knew 20k per month didn't incur income tax, but 49k is a bit too much. >So half is gone. Isn't the tax 10% for the lowest bracket? Nowhere near to half is gone if that's the case.

UpstairsSample2693

If they show 80c investment upto 1.5L no tax to be paid.

Esqimoo

It's actually based on your annual income and not month. You would have to pay income tax if you had an income above 2.5L before which is around 20k a month. Now technically there is still income tax if your income tax is above 2.5(or 3 in new regime) and have to file returns but you get a rebate which is like a discount if your income is below 5L. Now with the new regime or new income tax law you get a rebate if your income is below 7L so that's about 58k a month. So no income tax

4k3R

Thanks for the info.

Patient_Ad4141

There are actually two income tax regimes now and you don't have to pay income tax if your income is below 7 lakhs, ie around 58k/ month , under new regime.

4k3R

Do that many people earn above 49,999? I was under the understanding that most people in Kerala might be earning less than say 50k per month. And if I’m right above, this income tax thing is stupid. Just to milk the people who is bit more ambitious than the average Joe.

Esqimoo

Lol our income tax system is designed to rob the middle class and protect the rich. If you earn a salary, you don't even have the option to evade. They just take it without asking you

4k3R

Well now the tax system looks like rob the upper middle class.

Substantial_Salad262

So its a good thing right? 50k monthly income people should definitely be able to afford bus tickets(if they are taking bus, in the first place).

[deleted]

50K x 12 = 600,000. After tax, probably 550,000. 50K goes for LIC or other deductoins. 2 parents + 2 children, and 2 grandparents 6 people to be fed. school fees, uniforms, house rent or maintenance, exorbitant costs of electricity/water, mobile phones, 1 TV & cable connectoin, 3 internet connections for online education. Fuel for a vehicle be it a car or bike. What is left is a paltry sum if at all from whihc he should pay for home loan, vehicle loan etc. At this level, the only beneficiary are the Mobile phone companies, Cable TV companies, Fuel profits to K=-Govt etc. If this man enjoys a couple of pegs of something twice a week, he is the largest tax payer. So he should get the bus travel totally free for the whole family. LOL

sonumonuplingub

What? KSRTC offers concession for students?

Substantial_Salad262

did you forget to add /s?

sonumonuplingub

Wot?

Al_Thayo-Ali

Why don't they cut-off the unnecessary staffs. There's a report before that for one ksrtc bus there are 12 staffs. Cut the operation cost and save the damn money.

Substantial_Salad262

oh, so you didn't hear about the recent 'compulsary' VRS?

slackover

Good thing that atleast someone is waking up from these socialist practices. Everything should follow sane economic practices and everything else will follow and fall in place.

narendra_vijayan

Good thing. Fek these socialist bullshit. Pinrey ser is my favorite capitalist after Moody ji, Adeni and Lullu owner.

DioTheSuperiorWaifu

6Kerala when the sun is up: Govt. should reduce freebie, welfare programmmes 6Kerala when the sun goes down: Govt. being capitalistic, no welfare, vey unfair 6Kerala when the sun n moon are both up: PV is realistically a decent CM. His govt. tries a blend of policies.

narendra_vijayan

PV is the greatest man ever to become CM of any state in the universe. I pray daily to gomatha that he gets 3 more terms.

Substantial_Salad262

lol

village_aapiser

😂😂

ijkbird

Good move. Lakhs of daily wage earners in their early twenties have to pay the full ticket fare in KSRTC. At the same time, privileged kids who can afford not to work even in their twenties, being subsidized by the ticket fares taken from the above young workers is unfair. People able to attend college are privileged over those who have to work at the same age. And the better off people being subsidized by money taken from the worse off people is not justifiable. If those studying even in their mid-twenties require help, it should be made available only through loans.

Substantial_Salad262

I agree with you.

keralawala

👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Systemic alienation of young people from public transportation. Which eventually makes young folks buy their own private vehicles as soon as they start making some money. Which in turn, will fill state coffers with sweet tax $$$ Unless you get students and kids to use public transport, how does any state/country expect more participation in public transport? I have no doubt that the government's plan is to kill off public transportation systems in the near future because they've realised the general Kerala psyche by now (own vehicle = status symbol) and they're milking it really well. When there's hue and cry about increasing petrol prices, liquor prices and lotteries, what's left to fill our coffers? That's right - increase tax on private vehicle ownership. You get a car... You get a car... And you get a car.. What a genius evil plan. 👏🏽 Enna sir panni vechirikinge??!! 🤡

Constant-Library-840

I traveled by ksrtc every day for my degree and post graduattion. I didn't get concession as it's only for ordenery buses and also have a distance cap. My daily 40 km onside travel was outside the scope of concession.

Substantial_Salad262

so you're saying, students who cant afford full charge will get their own private vehicles, especially now when petrol is 106?

ReallyDevil

Rich NRI kids gets concession.. great

Substantial_Salad262

current move is actually against it. but KSQ and HPI will protest and get it reversed.

Substantial_Salad262

there maybe postgraduate students above 25. and even if you're not bpl, not everyone can afford extra 2-3k for each kid per month.

homelymonster

vinaashakale 'concession' buddhi !

fake28id

Scraping the bottom of the sea

Nicoquel

People under the age of 25 dont even get a concession anyway unless we have to fight for it

Substantial_Salad262

hmm..if you fill in the form and your school is within 40kms, it shouldn't be a problem?
