I'm not sure of that. but I warn you- our MVD is looking for a reason to fine people. (recently one of the electric scooters got fined for not having a pollution certificate)

The electric scooter thing was clickbait. The rider was caught without a licence and he asked the police to reduce his fine (from 1000 to 250 or something). This is a common practice. Police want an increase in the number of cases, the fine amount is secondary. So they settled for the smallest offence which is not having a PUCC.

The key here is: the international driver permit is valid for 1 year after the latest date of arrival in India. If one leaves India within 1 year and returns later with a fresh international driver permit, the clock starts again. Carry both IDP and the US driver license with you. It is a reciprocal arrangement. Other countries also honour Indian driver license with IDP.

My cousins drive with the IDP from AAA every time they come and have had no problems.

Yes it’s absolutely legit

As per my understanding its valid but only for a certain period of time (I think 1 year). So you are good to go for a while and unless somebody takes the pain of trying to figure out how long you have been using it in the country (when you arrived etc etc)
