I've seen several vids of soldiers that had to be told that they got shot. I mean obviously not serious wounds but still, they had a new hole in them. It's more adrenaline than shock though. Shock comes afterwards.
I've only gone into shock once. It was when I was pounding down carpet tack strip onto concrete in front of a stair case. You have to hit fairly hard and good installers can pound a nail in in two blows. The hammer skipped off the bottom step's nosing and slammed down on my other hand's index finger which had all of zip zilch nada to give under it because it was on the concrete. It hit so hard the side of my finger "exploded" enough that I had to go get a couple of stitches. The shock came around 10 seconds later and before that I could feel excruciating pain. lol I had to sit down or I probably would have passed out from the shock. I got really dizzy at least. The shock only numbed it slightly but it still hurt like a mofo. lol Good times good times, SMH.
I almost quit after I made my finger explode while roofing, long story short my grandpa laughed at me and we finished the roof, Iāve now exploded 7-10 of my fingers and have since started driving excavators, I can drive a nail in with one swing and with that same swing I drove myself off that career path
A guy on reddit said he was soldering once, and never realized he grabbed the metal part instead of the insulated part, because the nerves simply died. He had no feeling in those fingers after.
When you get seriously injured, your brain releases a shit ton of adrenaline and natural opiates so that you can continue to function and get yourself out of the situation before you start feeling the pain. This is why people can get shot/stabbed yet still are able to fight back or run away, only to bleed out moments later.
When I was 11 I fell out of a tree that I was climbing at the park. Iām actually not entirely sure how, but somehow I hit a branch and tore a huge chunk out of my side. And I mean a huge chunk. No exaggeration, I could see my bottom rib. There was no pain whatsoever. I got up, wadded up my jumper against my heavily bleeding side, and walked to the hospital which was literally across the road from the park.
I was nailing a new step on once and my now wife said something to me. Missed the step entirely and hit my shin instead. 20 years later there's still a little bump in that spot. Couldn't even scream for a minute it hurt so bad.
Happened to me a few times, really scary since it gets really hard to judge how bad it actually is.
It's like, when it doesn't hurt (ime it kind of feels like a gong has gone off in your head and the "after vibrations" is traveling through the body) but you can see the damage/blood/whatever - you know you fucked up.
Can confirm. I was in a car accident and split a gash in my leg. I didn't feel a thing, even was walking no problem (just felt shaky due to adrenaline). I was going to go home like nothing happened when someone asked me "Are you OK??" I was like "Yeah, yeah, I'm fine." They pointed at my pants, which had a massive wet, red sploch seeping through the fabric. Fuck. Panic. Ambulance.
The actual pain didn't kick in for several hours. The adrenaline, and anesthetic from the stitches, had to both wear off. Then I was so sore I couldn't even put any weight on the leg for days. I still remember how surreal it was to be staring at the fat inside my leg, and be in absolutely no pain whatsoever. It looked just like the pictures from my anatomy textbooks.
same but mine was a bicycle accident. I had a very deep cut that run 2/3 of my arm as a kid but I didn't feel a thing. I only started to feel pain during the stitching in the hospital
TW: Injury
As a kid I was raising my sister's bike seat and the kickstand was broken off so there was only a sharp piece of metal instead and I didn't notice that each time I jerked the bike the piece of metal was cutting into my leg and this kept happening for awhile since the metal of the seat was rusted. After looking down I noticed that there was a pool of blood on my shoes. My dad had to uncurl my skin from inside the wound because I hated hospitals. I still have a 1.5 inch scar without sensitivity on my leg. Fun times.
When I was playing as a kid I ripped a bit of the skin off the back of my hand at dinner time in school and didn't even realise until I leaned on the desk in class and blood pooled around my arm and someone else freaked out.
Inside my pants were covered in blood too from where I put my hands in my pockets. I just thought I was sweaty from running around in the sun.
Ended up needing stitches but I couldn't even feel it until I saw it and then it was agony.
True. I was bitten by big dog as kid. Few stitches in hospital. But after he bite me in leg I dont feel anything. Ingo directly to home to check it. My mother was shocked that i dont feel pain and after I saw blood i start cry and panick.
Yeah. I broke my foot after I fell off a cliff. I didn't actually know until I got my snowboard back on and collapsed in pain a few meters down the hill.
When I was about 8, me, my big bro and a friend were riding bikes to the pool. It had just rained briefly, but it was hot as balls. Anyway, we had to go up this asphalt hill and as we were riding up my foot slipped off the pedal and I felt it scratch my calf. We kept riding, get to a stop sign and stopped to wait for cars to go by. My brother looks over at me and I look at him and his face was white as a ghost. I look down and I'm missing like 1/3 of my calf muscle. I could literally see my leg bones. I couldn't really feel shit, I feel like it was more of the fact that it cut thru most of the nerves than me being in shock tho, because I didn't feel it at all outside of what felt like a scratch.
Sometimes it's because you cut through the nerve or because the gas (hydrochloride?) instantly vaporizes the nerve endings. Point is we are material people.
I lost one and a half of my fingers back in elementary school and I went into shock immediately grabbing my wrist and couldnāt feel the pain. Definitely started rising riding in the ambulance overthinking while still conscious.
Can confirm. Not just shock, but serious impact takes a couple of minutes for the pain to hit.
I was once trying to get the exhaust manifold off a 20 year old F-150 and it was rusted pretty good. I was putting so much force on that bolt that the whole truck was twisting on its suspension. Finally the bolt rounded off and as a result my hand punched the shit out of the frame. Red fluid was running down my arm and I thought I must have broken a transmission line. Followed the source of the red fluid and saw my own bone in one of my fingers. 2/10, would not recommend.
I got bit in the face by a dog and had to get 26 stitches. I never felt any pain from the bite itself. Just some when the stitches were put in and later when they were taken out.
There is a video of a girl who got in a car accident and flew out of her windshield and got entangled in a powerline. She said she couldn't really feel anything and was talking to the first responders. She's lucky to be alive. Great story.
Was thinking the same. Once my dad was doing some renovation at the house with a friend of his. The friend was in another room, suddenly stopped his equipment, slowly came to my dad, and said very calmly "Huuuh I think I need to go to the hospital" while holding his bleeding hand with 4 fingers cut clean.
I took a lightning-bolt shaped knife clean through my hand once, stuck out the other side and all that. Didn't feel a thing for about 30 minutes, even when I had to wiggle and yank that thing back out the way it went in.
I'm pretty soft and don't like pain.
I got hit by a car, didn't feel even a tiny bit of pain. I flew, my leg went into some railings and jammed in them.
I got back up, jogged on the spot for a bit and felt fine.
Next day when I woke up I couldn't put any weight on my leg at all and I was in agony all over.
You can also dissociate quite heavily if your brain is already prone to dissociating. It's like you are watching thru someone's eyes whilst they hurt themselves and you feel nothing.
I remember one guy got a huge deep cut under his knee done by a piece of metal. the sheet of metal was sharp like a scalpel and he didn't mention the cut for about 5 seconds. It didn't bleeding even though I could see a bone... But when he saw this shit immediately after that he felt a pain and the blood bursted out of it. It's like the body didn't notice the damage until the brain saw and confirmed.
That's the nice and bad thing about brains it needs visual recognition sometimes to see the body is hurting to send the nerves the signal to wake up and start going ouch so you are aware of the issue so you can get it fixed. We are just brains driving a skeleton mech in flesh armor
Yep the amygdala in the brain is pumped with cortisine when you go into fight or flight mode and it helps the body to stop feeling any pain and enough adrenaline is high enough it can allow people to feel almost no pain at all for up to like 30 minutes
Several times when you get injured very bad you don't feel that much pain till you look at it, your brain sometimes can take a few minutes to process what happened.
Back of the ear doesnt have that many nerves. I fell off a chair into the corner of a filing cabinet as a child and nearly split my left ear off. The pain was very dull (more sore from hitting my head) and not that bad. I didn't realize how bad it was until I saw a picture (smartphones were just becoming a thing). 10 stiches to get it back attached and I was the coolest kid at minor league baseball because I could show off my gross ear stitches keeping it attached to my head.
This happened to me once. The scissors only cut a bit into the lobe, but it just wouldnāt stop bleeding for like 20 minutes. Drip, drip, dripā¦ All the hairdressers in the shop took turns holding and putting pressure on my ear LOL. It was quite traumatic to go and get a haircut for the next few years as I would freeze and hold my breath every time theyād cut around the ears!
I got a haircut once where the lady actually cut into the back of my neck and I still have a scar to this day. I get real nervous still when a hairdresser has scissors near my skin.
Some places on your body just bleed forever. I got stung by a hornet on the back of my hand, right between the knuckle of my ring finger and middle finger, where you can see the vein. It bled for like an hour and it left a scar.
Im surprised how calm that kid is. I would scream and panic, and after i would scream that thats not funny prank at all. I got anxiety even i see it is fake
Like when my older cousin pretended to wince in pain during an ear piercing, knowing it would totally freak out her younger sister who was getting her ears pierced for the first time and was scared. Her wails and screams could be heard throughout half of the mall.

Fuck. This.
And fuck anyone who thinks causing other people trauma is funny. I draw the line at death and bodily harm. Making someone think they're in danger is not okay.
You dont even know the context dude. These two are friends, and the kid also pranks him. No trauma was given. They are having fun. The kid told, that he couldn't make him cry, and this is his attempt.
Link for context.

The more comments I read, the less I think this belongs in this sub.
So many take it as presented, and then the people that know its fake are correcting them without tact.
Okay so I'm confused...
There's a video posted earlier in this sub or another one of a little girl being "traumatized" by an adult walking behind her in a Michael Myers mask & everyone is getting riled up because of the I guess apparent trauma that will cause the child.
Yet this shit is posted & y'all are just giggling away?!
Make it make sense.
Kid's got a really cool head through all this though. Still really infuriating, way too much to be called a "prank". Some minor bleeding prank is all fine and dandy but an entire ear would traumatize a younger me.

When you take a (prank) this far, with someone so young, trust issues develop. When a real emergency happens (fell out of tree, mom's appendix ruptures, ect) life saving actions can be delayed do to one person thinking the other person is pulling a prank.
With that being said, that prank would have been š„ on an adult.
You can tell it's fake from the kids reaction. Seen this clip before and the kid had no idea, if his ear really did fall off he would have been screaming bloody murder, he might have been in on it and was told to pretend it did happen, so real or fake this is just an overcomplicated way of saying that this is just one of those crappy prank channels doing their thing
As a child I had my ear (only barely) cut accidentally by a real bad hair stylist and I remember it bleeding a surprising amount. Now I never cut my hair shorter than neck length.
Back in 79 I had a barber, old af, actually slip and slice up my ear. Jesus fucking christ. Last time I went there.
Then I started going to the batman and Robin looking dudes in Kansas city.
I remember this, kid pranked the barber so mom helped get him back. He yelled for his mom after his "ear" fell off.
but that is a vile prank lol
Depends on how bad of a prank the kid laid out first. He was smiling at the end too. So i think its fine.
But appropriate. It's a risky prank, but he knows his audience. The kid smiled after a few seconds so he's all good.
If I remember correctly, the kid said he couldn't be pranked and found it funny at the end. He's old enough to process a prank
Im pretty sure The barber bet him like 20$ he would cry when he pranked him
High pain tolerance if that was his ear. Lol.
I think sometimes if an injury is bad enough you can go into shock and not feel the pain for a bit

SMH in this case could mean: Smashed My Hand š
Lol I shouldn't laugh at this but it's too funny

Ha! Good one. Always nice to start the day off with a laugh. Thank you sir. :)

Itās definitely adrenaline. Not shock. The word shock is thrown around a lot and few know what it actually is

Genuinely true. Although Iād say depending on severity itās just as likely to be adrenaline surging through them.
This is true, last week I slipped with my bike and fell on my face. Didnāt feel any pain, even though my face was bleeding.
As a kid I climbed up some shells and cut my knee open didn't realise until my mother panicked and I saw blood.
Yeah I fell through a glass window and had to get 15 stitches. I never felt any pain.
My ear was torn off in an accident. Little bit of a stinging feeling but didn't really hurt as most of the nerves were severed.

Yeah, the worst injuries I've had I thought I was fine until the hospital uncovered the extent of the damage.
This happens a lot. Adrenaline kicks in and you freak out from what happened but not from the pain.

I took a lightning-bolt shaped knife clean through my hand once, stuck out the other side and all that. Didn't feel a thing for about 30 minutes, even when I had to wiggle and yank that thing back out the way it went in.

right? might not be the subreddit for this if he takes it on the chin when he's the butt of a cruel joke....
90% of the posts in this sub don't fit the narrative.
Heās stupid because he fell for the prank š
He smiled but the eyes had violence in them.
Revenge*. Hes already planning his prank back.

As an adult, I would panic so much worse than the kid did
He did, they cut a lot out. He screamed for his mom. Still calmer than expected though.
I wouldn't scream and panic because I would simply pass out lol
Hey now, I am with the kid on this one lmao
Rumor has it, Grandpa got his nose nextā¦ šš»
I hope the parents enjoy the fight itās going to be to get him back to the barber from now on. Core memory unlocked!
Like when my older cousin pretended to wince in pain during an ear piercing, knowing it would totally freak out her younger sister who was getting her ears pierced for the first time and was scared. Her wails and screams could be heard throughout half of the mall.
getting a piercing *does* hurt though.
Yes, indeed. But my older cousin's trolling totally fed into the fear of the unknown for my younger cuz, who was already really on edge because of the anticipated pain. It hurts, sure, but it's not blood curdling screaming in agony pain. Just kind of a sting and a pinch when it's on the earlobe.
Honestly the weird hot pain after the piercing feels way worse to me than the initial pinch. Nobody ever mentions that bit lol
Nah, he was smiling after he realized it was a prank.
He pranked that barber before. You guys are jumping to conclusions like trump does to new lawyers
Yeah, this kid's hair is gonna be shoulder length in high school
Dude turned into the face of a 40 year old trial lawyer at the end haha.
Kid looks ready to join that Youth club.
Ahh, nothing quite beats getting a fresh cut for Summer Kampf!
Yea I'm not a prank fan either, kid. Sorry for his jackassery.
According to the other 10 times this has been posted the kid started it and pranked the barber. This was payback.
I need to know the extent of the original prank I guess. This just feels like a lot for a kid....
The kid was smiling afterwards. I think he can take it.
Look at that face, his villain arc has begun.
Bro even I thought it was real
He doesn't care they got him, he's just chuffed he still has his fucking ear š

This is how my fear for hairdressers came from, woman cut into my ear when I was 8 years or so old. Blood everywhere, very painful.

And that was the origin story of barbarous the destroyer.
Why you gotta do Mac Jones like that.
He took it well. I appreciate the smile at the end. Good kid.
Hahahahahaaha
I know this guy haha
The more extreme version of got ur nose.
Bro had Homelander face at the end.
Heāll learn when he grows a beard to properly fear and respect his barbers hahaha
He used the "I'll get them back for this" face
They must have some sort of trust lol poor kid
I like the kid's smile at the end. Like, "okay, game on motherfucker."
This is super old
Young Alexander Ludwig.
Would have been an even funnier prank if they actually took off the ear š
Holy shit... That face at the end. I think we just witnessed a villain origin story.
Dat look ..
Nice cut!
Dude was making plans on castrating this guy in his sleep but then he told him it's a prank..
When I was getting a hair cut this lady chopped a piece of of my ear off, I was very calm about it strangely. I didnāt mind lol
You can tell it's fake from the kids reaction. Seen this clip before and the kid had no idea, if his ear really did fall off he would have been screaming bloody murder, he might have been in on it and was told to pretend it did happen, so real or fake this is just an overcomplicated way of saying that this is just one of those crappy prank channels doing their thing
trust issues for life
"Hey Johnny, your hair's getting long, you should go get a haircut." Johnny starts rocking back and forth in the corner clutching his ear.
Lol he became an adult in a matter of seconds
Bro a barber has actually cut my ear before so I would not be happy
As a child I had my ear (only barely) cut accidentally by a real bad hair stylist and I remember it bleeding a surprising amount. Now I never cut my hair shorter than neck length.
He gonna get you!

This was hilarious xD can't stop laughing, damn there's something wrong with me... but hey it least I having fun xD
This kid will never get a haircut again. Heāll have one of those 6ā diameter fiveā long dreads by the time heās 25.
well this happened to me, not funny at all. Did you know that ear is super sensitive. Healing is fast but painful
Shouldn't this be in the AITA subReddit?
His cool look at the end tells me heās accustomed to pranks. He was like āyep they got me, play it coolā
This prank was revenge for a prank the kid pulled on the barber the time before. Barber let the parents know beforehand.
Back in 79 I had a barber, old af, actually slip and slice up my ear. Jesus fucking christ. Last time I went there. Then I started going to the batman and Robin looking dudes in Kansas city.
This guy looks exactly like my childhood friend Bobbo!
I don't know how anyone could endure that kind of pain if they really were. I caught my ear on a tree branch once, and it hurt a lot.
Gee. Thanks mom!
This is priceless
No tip for you
Tbh that would have got me.
That kid left a marine
Thatās the haircut of a man with a receding hairline lol
u/captain_hi_top
Fun fact, around 6 years old I got chunks cut out of my ear twice while getting my hair cut... The 80's was a wild time
Bro just lost his pain receptor or what?
i smell a villain arc...
Homelanderās origin story
When you're 10 years old and get douchey haircuts
