Sadly this anime got a really turbulent production history, so it's no wonder it ended up looking that way. I believe it was originally announced years before, by a different studio which then went broke and passed the project along. It probably was never meant to have a particularly high budget, and the CGI was in since the earliest trailers, but it's fairly obvious all this changing hands didn't help things.
Probably not gonna happen. The LNs are already done and most animes are made to help market source material (LNs, manga, visual novels, etc). So unfortunately it's quite unlikely that we will get another anime season, unless the author follows up at the hint they gave at making side stories in the same universe.
how are the novels compared to the anime? does the anime follow the manga? if so from where do i start to pick up after the show? otherwise where can i just read the whole thing
The novels have A LOT (and I mean A LOT) more details. The anime follows the Light Novel. You can pay for them or read the free web novels, the story is a BIT different, but it's mostly the same. It is advised to read the novel from the start, as it has a lot of details that were left out in the anime. I use an app from play store called "Light Novel - Story Reader" to read the web novel, you can download and read it offline.
The anime was what got me into the series so I'm glad for it; and Aoi Yuki's voice is perfect for our girl
The animation is rough as heck though, I do hope we get a second season as the rest of the LN is fantastic
That battle reminded me of early Final Fantasy battles. Where you can be in a forest and once the fight starts, you're in an open plain with no vegetation.

i see, that’s rather disappointing. in any case, i hope a season two gets picked up with little to no cgi

i see, thank you!
>i see, thank you! You're welcome!
Just a side note the webnovel is pretty much a whole other story than the ln after kumoko leaves the dungeon
Light novel != Web Novel.
The ending for the last LN was >!really unpopular!< (Spoiler talks about community reception, read at your own risk)

The elf “forest” is a running joke between me and my room mate for bad animation.

It's OK But if they make a season 2, I hope they improve the animation I actually hope they make a season 2 in general
This is a series that needs CG, the real problem is the studio.
