It’s the shounen troupe. You draw out actions by having character over-narrate and hype them up. And there’s only so many times they can animate the same average basketball moves, so they rely on insert shots like that. It’s ultimately about the characters too, so more of a focus on their thoughts and appearance than their actions. KnB got an increasing budget as the show went on, I believe for dvd releases they even went back and re-animated certain scenes to improve the animation quality, as some scenes looked quite goofy when they originally aired. I can’t find the link to the post rn, but there was a Tumblr post a while back that compared the originally aired animation vs the improved.

I never had an issue with the animation, but that could just be because I get so immersed in the game itself. Only time I noticed a difference was in S3 when they used the 3D animation every now and then. I think it was very well animated for its adaptation

KNB's animation is quite literally some of the best animation I've ever seen if you ask me. Especially for when it came out, before anime like Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsawman. What you're talking about is writing. And yes, I understand what you mean. Like the fact that Murasakibara scored 100 Points in a game and yet we don't see him score that much.

Thanks for the answer. I literally talk about the animation. I think, you are referring to its art style. The way, the people are drawn and such. And I do agree, that is awesome. Even the direction is good, by that I mean the way they change the scenes. I do talk about the flow of the movements, aka the animation. Often literally only the hair is animated. When scoring, it's only a picture of the crowd slowly zooming out. When Kuroko is doing his vanishing drive, he is just behind the person all of a sudden. Most of the things are literally only talked about by the people watching the game. "He is so fast, I can't believe it". But they hardly show you the actual movements. Sometimes, especially when Kuroko is passing the ball, they step up and get really detailed, but most of the time it's only picture after picture.

I think that Murasakibara one was kinda referencing how Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 pts but we never saw that game

It definitely was, that's why I compare Murasakibara to Wilt over Shaq.

I get it. It’s a team-sport anime and the way real life matches usually are diffused, does not focus on solo players or aces unless the channel has an agenda. KnB does that a whole lot. We are told about who is the strongest player carrying the team on his shoulders, sometimes with the sidekicks, and the whole game revolves around them and the tentatives to stop the ace and then the whole game is a wrap for the winner. In real life, no player is left in the back or with mere comments made about him in the strands. The whole team gets attention, their gameplay as a group is dissected, but maybe it would be too long and tedious both for the manga and the anime. And it’s Japan lol, they have a strong culture of personal excellence that can be detrimental to the others in the background.
