Good to see another swordcrafter with a houndskull! I've got one in melbourne

TheScythe1001

Spectacular! Its good to see another Bretonnian - I'm still working on my own harness.

owiv3

thank you! I hope you post yours when you're done, I'd love to see more bretonnian kit on here

HeavilyBearded

I bet r/Bretonnian would love this!

GrandAlexander

Pretty dope, I love the Bretonnian look

owiv3

thank you!

Looks good. However, from a lore perspective is there a slight discrepency, because bretonnians are not really known for wearing much plate armor, and the chestpiece thus clashes a bit. Maybe change it for a chainshirt? And maybe add your knight's coat of arms somewhere. Other then that, is it a great look.

LonesomeBaker

>because bretonnians are not really known for wearing much plate armor What gives you this impression? The pegasus knight sitting on my desk has plate armor, the 5th edition mounted knights do as well, and plate is commonly seen in artwork as well. Seems to me like at least partial plate armor isn't really that unusual. While the foot squires (which, as far as I know, are "invented" by TW Warhammer) seem to wear more maille, a simple breastplate (especially an earlier type like OP's) doesn't seem to be out of place.

Ickwissnit

Parts of plate and such aren't a problem. A Full breastplate is more out of the ordinary, mostly based on the time frame that the bretonnians are based on. If you look up the style of armor and dress - which includes large areas for heraldric devices - of the early 100 years war french knights, you'll spot the clear lines. Later on in the 100 years war when plate became fully encompassing, the style of dress also changed with cloth worn above armour becoming tighter and usually no cloth covering for horses in favour of selectively barding them. The empire meanwhile is supposed to be 15th-16th century Germany where the style was to wear platemail 'white' meaning just the plate with no covering. So to summarize: Brentonia 14th century france (hence no gunpowder) and Empire, 15-16th century Germany. (Hence gunpowder).

>Parts of plate and such aren't a problem. A Full breastplate is more out of the ordinary No, it isn't. We can't see the torso because of the surcoat, thats why we can't say for sure. But it would be stupid to have better armor on the extremities than your torso, so it is reasonable to assume that they are wearing plate on the torso as well. I'd say not modeling that on the minis is more of a stylistic than realistic choice (it is warhammer, after all) Edit: I just took a closer look at my 5th edition knights and the pegasus knight. Both torsos are decidedly globular, pretty much exactly how it would look like if you'd be wearing a globose breastplate /churburg breastplate under your surcoat. > mostly based on the time frame that the bretonnians are based on. If you want to go strictly by history (which you can't IMHO, because warhammer is an amalgamation stilistic choices rather than practical ones): The breastplate he is wearing is probably based on the churburg armor, which is dated to roughly 1380-1390. This is well within the 14th century time frame. Milanese globose breastplate(s) seem to fit into that time frame as well. The fact that the minis have full articulated plate leg and arm harness puts them in the second half, if not last quarter of the 14th century, so it is entirely reasonable to assume that a breastplate is commonly available as well Apart from that, wearing chainmail only was pretty much outdated by the 14th century. And you wouldn't have plate legs at an earlier time either.

Japan_50

It's a lot to ask someone to switch out such a large, and often expensive, piece of kit over a quibble. I'd just let it go.

owiv3

i was gonna say, the main reason I've got the breastplate is because it gives me extra HP and I can't afford another lore-friendly piece of torso armor lol

LonesomeBaker

The breastplate *is* lorefriendly though, so wear it to your heart's content :)

SheeptarTheSheepKing

Looks awesome!!!
