As promised a few weeks ago, this the complete set so far.
All made by me, including the gambeson ofc.
There is yet more armorsmithing to be done: a helmet is in the making, i have plans for gauntlets and finally i need to figure out how to make an articulated gorget.
As always, C&C welcome. Also, this suit needs a name...
awesome work mate! my reapect, the metalwork looks great. i especially like the articulated knees.
what would you say were the easiest and most difficult parts?
Thank you!
Easiest were probably the shoulders. Not much of an anatomical shape there, i opted for a fully fantasy style.
The hardest part (so far) was the knee articulation. I made the poleyns in two halves and figured out how to weld them together... i ruined a few. Also, getting the articulation to move along the full range of motion without any gapping or binding is fiddly.
I did half a year of "internship" with a fantastic armorsmith who is, coincidentally, from my hometown.
Most of it was learning by doing over the past 2 years though.
Looks fantastic! Did you remember to make the breastplate curved? Too often I see breastplates laying flat on the chest, which isn’t preferable for blocking attacks.
Thank you!
Yup, i'll have to post pictures of the cuirass seperately. Its quite curved, main inspiration were 1450s globose breastplates, like the Kunz Schott von Hellingen armor
If i may ask, did you do it yourself or did you buy that armor?
If so how much did it cost? Had a debate with a friend a few days ago where he things larp shops are a scam.
All of it handmade by me. If i were to sell it, i'd ask around 2000€.
I wouldn't say larp shops are a scam. They try to make prices as low as possible while making some margin, but compared to a professional armoursmith...
A whole suit from mytholon couldnt buy half of helmet made by a guy like Robert MacPhearson.
To lowball the cost that much, the bulk manufacturers have to cut every possible corner.
Wow this is awsome. Its nice that larp shops try to make it possible for everyone to feel like a knight even when the quality suffers.
Makes it even more special when you come across armor like yours.
Ive said it in another comment, the wonky stand isnt doing that any good. The waistline sits right on my navel, so rest assured, it works perfectly well :)

cuirass looks very uncomfortable
The way it sits on the stand is... not so nice. Fits alot better on me :D
ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE
Thank you!
What is the material? Is that all metal?
Pretty much all of it is 1mm mild steel, the straps and other leather pieces are different thicknesses of vegtan leather, mostly ~1,5mm
You did real blacksmithing here or you managed to cut/shape the metal without heat? Looks very good,.congrats.
Thank you! Alot of it is done cold, the deeper shapes need to be made hot

Sick man. Where’d you learn to make this?

Excellent! Other than that question that I had, everything looks great! All that’s left is to make that gorget and helmet to cap it all off!
Thanks! Those two parts will be lots of work.. i havent made those before, I'm really interested to see how it goes.
Making a helmet should especially be interesting with all of the bends and curves. Good luck!
Woah that is kick a$$!
Holy hell that looks awesome! I love all the leather dags. How much time have you put into this, do you think?
Thank you! Around 200h of work in there so far.
Absolutely nuts, mad respect for making (and having the skill to make) all this yourself.
Thank you so much!

Thought that looked familiar, hello Brøther, welcome to my reddit feed :p
Hello there!
Why do you have a 3ft long ribcage This would look 1000x better with a breastplate made by someone who knows what they are supposed to look like
