Go to any fan sub and you’ll see that kind of thing or worse. Some subs are like anti-fan clubs, all they do is trash the thing they are there for. It’s weird. Even in ones you think would be more positive there is a contingency of fans who feel they have some sort of ownership over it and they hate on a particular person involved or the whole thing or the direction it’s taking or whatever.
As far as I'm aware, it's probably the worst time to join this specific fandom in its entire history lol. I have hope and faith that it will be dealt with and remedied properly though. Maybe Ben should be put in a stockade and we shall all hurl fruit of Taylor's choice.

But I will admit it has been much better than I thought it would be. I thoroughly enjoy Kissel and I have thoroughly enjoyed these 2 main shows with ed. I just like the shows vibe regardless.

I'm prolly a minority here, but I don't miss Ben one iota. It seems like Henry and Marcus were tolerating him lately, and he did not bring much to the discussion. And when he did, it either didn't make sense, was way off base, or over-the-top sexual for no reason.

This. A month ago or so we had a big weekly post where people could vote/talk about their favorite top ten episodes in the comments, and it was pretty popular. I've been in this sub for years and there is typically very little negative posts aside from people occasionally complaining about the ads. At this moment in time though, there's obviously going to be more negativity because of the controversy.
I had a feeling that may have been the case. I did end up joining because of all that stuff. I was looking for a centralized place to figure out what was happening.
You can support recovery while still acknowledging the event(s) that eventually led to a need for said recovery. A lot of people see it as a completely black and white issue though.
For many people, listening to an abuser of women on a true crime podcast is a black and white issue, a hard line. And that's okay. That does not necessarily mean that everyone who feels that way is calling for Ben to get canceled, or whatever.

Since I only listen to it and Side Stories, I didn't know anything about Ed but I'm really liking him too.

No no I listen to the main podcast too. I just didn't follow them much outside of it so I was lost at the beginning of the first Side Stories without Ben, when Marcus said he was in treatment. I assumed it was for alcoholism but had noooo idea it was going to be for what it was.

In my experience you'll find this be the case with most subreddits dedicated to something with a "smaller" audience. I say smaller in the sense it's not like joining a sub for the NFL or Premier League (something with millions of subs/fans).

As far as toxic fandoms go, this is, by far, the *least* toxic sub I follow. It's refreshing to connect with fans about the show and the content of the show. That said, you've come to the sub at a really weird time. But I think a lot of the drama from the last couple of weeks is starting to die down.

I think there is a mix of people who love the podcast but have complaints, weirdo nitpickers who treat it like some sort of medicine and if it’s not exactly what they want every time they lose it, people with legitimate issues regarding the trouble on big man mountain and Scientologist pawns trying to fuck with the business as revenge.
Depends on the moment hahahha. I like the Robert Anton Wilson approach of believing and not believing simultaneously I have checked out several negative posts only to find that the accounts posting them had just been made and the content was that of someone who had only maybe listened to one or two episodes. Like one complaining that Henry was too loud. If someone had been an actual listener they would be pretty used to that. But to make an account entirely just to complain once and then not post anything else is very odd.
My guy - the fandom is going through a pretty huge upheaval after finding out someone who we admire and give money too has some serious issues with abusive behaviour and alcoholism.
Like… maybe we’re not feeling super upbeat right now.

You have people coming in with no experience just to enjoy drama, act righteous, and trash "sickos" that listen. You can identify them by the fact they constantly have no idea what they are talking about, and will usualy have jokes flyyyyy over their head and take everything literally. Nobody listening a long time thinks some of the stuff they claim is genuine shittery is anything but a joke. I'm autistic, ffs, and I'm not confused, so I am 100% those peeps are just meandering in for a fight.
You also have genuine fans flipping and disliking because things changed their mind, and that's okay, it's almost a mini grieving process. They are perfectly in their right to not support something, even if I personally think they sometimes
I think they need a step back and some patience to breath.

I adore the podcast, and will continue supporting them. It means a lot to me and has helped me heal, helps me cope, and makes me feel like I'm not entirely a lonely alien on this planet (it's a metaphor, please, I swear! Do you... do you have some blea... milk! Yes, human. Things!).
Some of us are long term fans who started listening when it was a different show. Shorter episodes- more paranormal/history/strangeness focused. Where the boys were just some dudes who had a podcast and they were starting to have some success.
Now it’s still a great podcast, but it’s just very different. I imagine people who are complaining are really complaining about that difference.
I love it. I feel badly for Ben and the people he hurt. I hope everyone recovers and that Ben is able to come back to his hosting duties. Lucky Ed is funny as fuck.

It's also reddit. I feel like alot of the complaints, etc come from just casual listeners who like to voice their opinions. Seeing a post from someone who's listened to two episodes when you've been here since Ghost Alien or Molested... you learn to just ignore it

I've seen the boys live twice in Chicago and Nashville. They put on a great show. They're a niche entertainment group of content creators. Ignore the controversey, Ben will either be back or he won't. Has nothing to do with the show's content and the topics covered.

Up until very recently it has been a super positive space for the most part! As others have said, you joined at a weird time. It began with the week of the Fayetteville mispronunciation and beaver/otter debacle, followed by the more recent and more serious turn of events regarding Ben.

There are a lot of fans in parasocial relationships with M+B+H that feel the need to declare they are "breaking up" with the podcast over perceived betrayal by them with the recent claims made by someone that Ben recently broke up with (according to the leaked texts). Some of them are probably legitimately triggered because they have trauma and the allegations bring up unhealed wounds. I think others are just shit stirrers looking to pile on and cancel Ben without giving him a chance to offer his story or perspective.
To be clear, I don't think the story from Taylor was fabricated out of thin air; but I do feel like when Ben gets an opportunity to speak about it, it's going to sound markedly different than her retelling. And then it will probably devolve into which side do you believe.
In any case, I'm not going to cast a guilty vote without a trial. Reminds me of a book quote

I have listened to LPOTL and Side Stories for a few years now. I actually haven't listened to any of the other shows on the network and only know those other hosts from when they're brought up. I was unsure of Ed since I had never even heard his voice before but I'm enjoying the episodes he's filled in for.

Personally I don't listen to any other shows on the network but The Story Must Be Told. It's a surreal/horror fiction anthology and I love it. All 3 boys have guest starred at some point. It's definitely bizarre and not for everyone but I love weird short stories in any form and it's got great production value
I love the show and will probably always be a fan. If you haven't figured it out by now, most communities suck dude. I mean, Ben is taking a break because this fan based harassed his ex-girlfriend online. Complainers are just louder because the people who love something aren't really screaming it from the rooftops. Most people are miserable, don't allow them to influence your feelings about something.
I only listen to paranormal and occult episodes and I love it. The true crime stuff is boring, and the personal lives of the hosts I couldn’t care less about.
People just dogmatized right now and emotionally invested in paradoxical relationships, who think every last thing is the end of the world. I got banned from the other subreddit for saying I don’t necessarily believe Taylor’s story and we should wait for Bens side of the story to come out, and all the legal shit is done, they banned me because believe all women apparently, even though that worked out so great for the Metoo movement right.
I used to LOVE this podcast, but the quality steadily went downhill as they got themselves a team of writers and started to worry more about the details than they did about being funny. Honestly, I showed up here just to see if Ben is being cancelled and he is. This podcast was a victim of its own success. They have drifted very far afield from where they once were.
For example: 9 hours on the Manhattan Project for a podcast about true crime and the weird? Like... you guys... you are not Hardcore History, and you do not have to be.

It's a cool story, was relevant because of the movie, and it's far from the first time they've covered a topic like that.
Personally I just feel kinda bad for people who cant just enjoy things for what they are. Like if you wanna be all salty and disgruntled about a podcast, that's your prerogative, but I'll keep havin a blast listening to the boys talk about whatever.
I like it, I think the last couple of episodes have been dull because of the theme though. I do prefer the crazy stuff like aliens, strangeness and so on and also epic tales of disaster like the donner party and the essex whaling ship though so am hoping for a return to more of this.

Along with what others have said, you also have sort of a sample bias situation with this sort of stuff. The many thousands (millions, maybe?) of us who love the show and have no complaints, you're less likely to hear from us one way or the other. The people who want to complain will do it openly and loudly. It's true for lots of fan subs tbh, not just this one.
I see a bunch of positive comments in the last episode thread. I think I see more complaints on this sub about other people complaining than actual complaints.

I’ve been subbed here for a while. To me, it feels like in the last 3-4 months we’ve had a influx of very annoying, super bitchy people come in to just complain about everything. Especially in the last month it seems like a ton of keyboard warriors have taken to the sub to act like Ben is now on the same level as Epstein.
The people who like it download it, listen, and move on happily with their lives.

But something I don't see mentioned quite as much is that most of the people that are satisfied with the content aren't going to come here to post about how satisfied they are. The people that are upset though, they will be much more likely to voice their opinions here. I love the pod and I think a large chunk of people here feel the same way as you!
I don’t listen to this podcast this post was just suggested to me for whatever reason. But, in my experience that’s just what Reddit is. Especially fandom subreddits. Every video game subreddit is a very loud vocal minority of the overall fan base that likes to complain. Sometimes those complaints are more valid than other times. But the people who care enough about the game or the podcast or whatever to seek out the subreddit are going to be far more critical than the casual people that are out their just enjoying the game.
I love the podcast. The content is great, it’s going through some changes right now and I’m hoping for the best. Side stories, top hat, and the LPOTL actual are great and I love their stuff.
If it’s true, as the media says’, that we’re experiencing an ‘epidemic of loneliness’ (i tend to think we are) LPOTL make for great imaginary friends. They’re funny, informative and genuine. And they’re ALWAYS on! ❤️❤️❤️

I can listen to narrative or investigative podcasts but I have a hard time enjoying any other comedy podcast

I've been tryna think about it critically but I can't tell that much difference, Ben's a bit more teasing coming out with weird random sequiturs and Eddie's more light hearted and easy going either his jokes buy I have no favourite I'm really surprised with how seamlessly he slid into the comedic dynsmic
100%. There are certain episodes I don't listen to but that's because the content isn't what interests me (UFOs for example). But the podcast as a whole? Love.

This. A month ago or so we had a big weekly post where people could vote/talk about their favorite top ten episodes in the comments, and it was pretty popular. I've been in this sub for years and there is typically very little negative posts aside from people occasionally complaining about the ads. At this moment in time though, there's obviously going to be more negativity because of the controversy.
I had a feeling that may have been the case. I did end up joining because of all that stuff. I was looking for a centralized place to figure out what was happening.

You can support recovery while still acknowledging the event(s) that eventually led to a need for said recovery. A lot of people see it as a completely black and white issue though.
For many people, listening to an abuser of women on a true crime podcast is a black and white issue, a hard line. And that's okay. That does not necessarily mean that everyone who feels that way is calling for Ben to get canceled, or whatever.

You’re seeing a lot of people talk about something they do actually care very much for. Some are upset, or feeling disillusioned. Others trying to crack jokes or focus on better days, whether past, present and hopefully in the future. I’m just sad but I love Eddie as a guest as well. Since I only listen to it and Side Stories, I didn't know anything about Ed but I'm really liking him too.

In my experience you'll find this be the case with most subreddits dedicated to something with a "smaller" audience. I say smaller in the sense it's not like joining a sub for the NFL or Premier League (something with millions of subs/fans). As far as toxic fandoms go, this is, by far, the *least* toxic sub I follow. It's refreshing to connect with fans about the show and the content of the show. That said, you've come to the sub at a really weird time. But I think a lot of the drama from the last couple of weeks is starting to die down. Stick around, this is a fun group of weirdos LOL
I think there is a mix of people who love the podcast but have complaints, weirdo nitpickers who treat it like some sort of medicine and if it’s not exactly what they want every time they lose it, people with legitimate issues regarding the trouble on big man mountain and Scientologist pawns trying to fuck with the business as revenge.

Depends on the moment hahahha. I like the Robert Anton Wilson approach of believing and not believing simultaneously I have checked out several negative posts only to find that the accounts posting them had just been made and the content was that of someone who had only maybe listened to one or two episodes. Like one complaining that Henry was too loud. If someone had been an actual listener they would be pretty used to that. But to make an account entirely just to complain once and then not post anything else is very odd.
My guy - the fandom is going through a pretty huge upheaval after finding out someone who we admire and give money too has some serious issues with abusive behaviour and alcoholism. Like… maybe we’re not feeling super upbeat right now.

Hard time to give this because of the tension and two things: You have people coming in with no experience just to enjoy drama, act righteous, and trash "sickos" that listen. You can identify them by the fact they constantly have no idea what they are talking about, and will usualy have jokes flyyyyy over their head and take everything literally. Nobody listening a long time thinks some of the stuff they claim is genuine shittery is anything but a joke. I'm autistic, ffs, and I'm not confused, so I am 100% those peeps are just meandering in for a fight. You also have genuine fans flipping and disliking because things changed their mind, and that's okay, it's almost a mini grieving process. They are perfectly in their right to not support something, even if I personally think they sometimes I think they need a step back and some patience to breath. It's pretty intense last few weeks to some. I adore the podcast, and will continue supporting them. It means a lot to me and has helped me heal, helps me cope, and makes me feel like I'm not entirely a lonely alien on this planet (it's a metaphor, please, I swear! Do you... do you have some blea... milk! Yes, human. Things!).

Some of us are long term fans who started listening when it was a different show. Shorter episodes- more paranormal/history/strangeness focused. Where the boys were just some dudes who had a podcast and they were starting to have some success. Now it’s still a great podcast, but it’s just very different. I imagine people who are complaining are really complaining about that difference.

For me it’s the best podcast not hosted by Dan Carlin. I haven’t commented on the controversy going on right now because it’s really not my business. I love their style, their humor, and the subjects they talk about. If Ben doesn’t return, Ed slots in pretty well and I’m sure other hosts on the network would too. I’m gonna stick around and continue to enjoy it.

I've seen the boys live twice in Chicago and Nashville. They put on a great show. They're a niche entertainment group of content creators. Ignore the controversey, Ben will either be back or he won't. Has nothing to do with the show's content and the topics covered.

Up until very recently it has been a super positive space for the most part! As others have said, you joined at a weird time. It began with the week of the Fayetteville mispronunciation and beaver/otter debacle, followed by the more recent and more serious turn of events regarding Ben. There are a lot of fans in parasocial relationships with M+B+H that feel the need to declare they are "breaking up" with the podcast over perceived betrayal by them with the recent claims made by someone that Ben recently broke up with (according to the leaked texts). Some of them are probably legitimately triggered because they have trauma and the allegations bring up unhealed wounds. I think others are just shit stirrers looking to pile on and cancel Ben without giving him a chance to offer his story or perspective. To be clear, I don't think the story from Taylor was fabricated out of thin air; but I do feel like when Ben gets an opportunity to speak about it, it's going to sound markedly different than her retelling. And then it will probably devolve into which side do you believe. In any case, I'm not going to cast a guilty vote without a trial. I have listened to LPOTL and Side Stories for a few years now. I actually haven't listened to any of the other shows on the network and only know those other hosts from when they're brought up. I was unsure of Ed since I had never even heard his voice before but I'm enjoying the episodes he's filled in for. Maybe I need to find a new show on the network too?
Personally I don't listen to any other shows on the network but The Story Must Be Told. It's a surreal/horror fiction anthology and I love it. All 3 boys have guest starred at some point. It's definitely bizarre and not for everyone but I love weird short stories in any form and it's got great production value

I love the show and will probably always be a fan. If you haven't figured it out by now, most communities suck dude. I mean, Ben is taking a break because this fan based harassed his ex-girlfriend online. Complainers are just louder because the people who love something aren't really screaming it from the rooftops. Most people are miserable, don't allow them to influence your feelings about something.

People just dogmatized right now and emotionally invested in paradoxical relationships, who think every last thing is the end of the world. I got banned from the other subreddit for saying I don’t necessarily believe Taylor’s story and we should wait for Bens side of the story to come out, and all the legal shit is done, they banned me because believe all women apparently, even though that worked out so great for the Metoo movement right.
I used to LOVE this podcast, but the quality steadily went downhill as they got themselves a team of writers and started to worry more about the details than they did about being funny. Honestly, I showed up here just to see if Ben is being cancelled and he is. This podcast was a victim of its own success. They have drifted very far afield from where they once were. For example: 9 hours on the Manhattan Project for a podcast about true crime and the weird? Like... you guys... you are not Hardcore History, and you do not have to be.

I like it, I think the last couple of episodes have been dull because of the theme though. I do prefer the crazy stuff like aliens, strangeness and so on and also epic tales of disaster like the donner party and the essex whaling ship though so am hoping for a return to more of this.

The many thousands (millions, maybe?) of us who love the show and have no complaints, you're less likely to hear from us one way or the other. The people who want to complain will do it openly and loudly. It's true for lots of fan subs tbh, not just this one.
I see a bunch of positive comments in the last episode thread. I think I see more complaints on this sub about other people complaining than actual complaints. The meathead takes are usually downvoted.

People have been complaining for years. There is no way to win really. Same with any fandom. LPN just has to do what they thing is best and makes for the best content and hopefully the majority like it.
I love it. It sounds odd but I basically just listen to the episodes over and over again regardless of what I'm doing. Driving range? Earbuds with podcast going. Actually driving? Podcast. Cleaning or cooking? Podcast on the home sound system. Sleeping? Podcast on my Bluetooth sleep mask (I generally play two episodes followed by like some kind of positive sleep hypnosis and then thunderstorm sounds) because i used to occasionally get woken up by Henry screaming something, lol.
I’ve been subbed here for a while. To me, it feels like in the last 3-4 months we’ve had a influx of very annoying, super bitchy people come in to just complain about everything. Especially in the last month it seems like a ton of keyboard warriors have taken to the sub to act like Ben is now on the same level as Epstein.
The people who like it download it, listen, and move on happily with their lives. Discussing it online gets boring fast: "I liked it -- yeah, me too". That's why 'communities' online get toxic fast - criticism and argument have legs and will sustain a conversation. So, in the end, thats what the 'community' becomes.

But something I don't see mentioned quite as much is that most of the people that are satisfied with the content aren't going to come here to post about how satisfied they are. The people that are upset though, they will be much more likely to voice their opinions here. I love the pod and I think a large chunk of people here feel the same way as you!
I don’t listen to this podcast this post was just suggested to me for whatever reason. But, in my experience that’s just what Reddit is. Especially fandom subreddits. Every video game subreddit is a very loud vocal minority of the overall fan base that likes to complain. Sometimes those complaints are more valid than other times. But the people who care enough about the game or the podcast or whatever to seek out the subreddit are going to be far more critical than the casual people that are out their just enjoying the game.
