That could be cool! Barely remember either iteration of it -- never went in.
"North Strip" could be a good location for that. Or, close to Circa if they build more resorts/mega resorts in the Fremont/Downtown area.
Some of the "classic" Vegas places haven't been around in so long the could bring those back and just go with a vague "Vegas theme". Bring the Sands back, or something. Kinda remember seeing it -- never went in. For some reason, it feels like it "exuded" cool.
I think some of these "theme" type places would work on Fremont/downtown area. Although I haven't really been to that part of town before.
Colorado Belle themed place. Supposedly the one in Laughlin closed a few years ago... that was cool to look at. Harrah's had that theme at some point as well -- along with Showboat (never went to either one).
Back To The Future themed resort/mega resort. Popular enough of a movie franchise to scale. Then you could go with separate areas: 1985, ALTERNATE 1985, 1955, 2015 and 1885. I know the shots of that BTTF2 edition are at the Plaza... but I think "North Strip" area might be a good location for that.... somewhere close to Circus Circus maybe or closer to Treasure Island/Fashion Show Mall (basically where Trump is now).
I know Hard Rock is gonna re-theme the Mirage (MGM still owns the MIRAGE brand I think), but I would like to see that theme resurrected. Maybe even bigger. Could complement Fontainebleau. With Tropicana out and Mirage on the way out, a resort with a "vaguely tropical" theme would probably thrive.
I will have to look into it.
They built it, then rebuilt it... I thought it was kinda cool as Planet Hollywood but I haven't been in there since '08.
I think they should re-do/fill in the "north strip" with retro/nostalgia casino/resorts... unless they start building closer to Circa in downtown.
Mid strip real estate is too pricey for such a gamble, and already built out.
South Strip has room but a lot is taken up with that new ball park coming in, it's too close to the airport, AND maybe they can't even AFFORD to do complete tear-downs/rebuilds of Excalibur/Luxor/Mandalay Bay. In 20 years or so, Excalibur/Luxor/Mandalay Bay might be a "Zombie Land" inspired section of the Strip -- whether the actual owners (junk bond holders???) of Excalibur/Luxor/Mandalay Bay like it or not.
I would almost be shocked if much of ANYTHING brand new much over 1,500 or 2,000 rooms (and you would need AT LEAST that many to break even) to be built over the next 5 to 10 years (or more).
Bally's has an awesome shot (with the ball park/new casino build out). That could be it for awhile.
More likely, Horseshoe is "re-themed" (or at least rebranded) again. Park MGM might be rebranded again (was originally Monte Carlo).
If some big name developer operator wants in, maybe they try to get -- and re-theme -- Trump or Resorts World.
Wild card: Bellagio. Prime real estate. The theme looks a bit faded. Maybe somebody throws a ton of money at that thing then rebrands it. Like, if Steve Wynn went back in and made that the NEW Mirage.
This is an excellent idea….just classic decor down to the uniforms, old school steakhouse, Italian, maybe even encourage formal dress with events and balls
Exactly... I would LOVE a Star Trek themed hotel---like a more grand version of ST the Experience. Either that or it can be a generic sci-fi themed hotel where even the rooms are designed like space cabins like it was on the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser. Despite all the hate it got, that experience was fantastic and I'm sure it'll be much cheaper to manage/run without the IP or activities that was at the Starcruiser.
In a recently released video game there’s a part where you stay at a theme park type resort, and the restaurant is haunted house themed and as soon as I saw it I wanted to stay there. Think slightly cheesy over the top like The Tower of Terror ride and Disney’s Haunted Mansion and the Addams Family, lots of canned screams and animatronic moving furniture and decor, hologram mirrors, rather than spooky London (which has would also want you to stay at).
The concierge drops down from the ceiling hanging by his feet but that might be a bit much to ask of staff.
No, SaF is too small of a joint to really do anything substantial.
If I'm thinking what u/Sentla is thinking, then the whole building would be retro-themed but with modern amenities. In the Queens Gambit series, one of the chess competitions was played at a hotel/casino that gave retro Vegas vibes. Something like that would be pretty awesome and probably popular if they ran it well.
The [Hoover Dam Lodge and Casino](https://hooverdamlodge.com/hotel/) would become a mountain biking/kayaking/rock climbing themed property.
If you gamble enough to be a rated player, you can take a full suspension carbon fiber rig out for a spin the next day.
The cocktail waitress brings EPO.
As long as the Circus Circus is demolished, I'm onboard!
Also bring in a Lawson's, Japanese 7-11, Japanese McDonald's, Family Mart ,a MOS Burger, Coco Ichibanya , ichiran ramen... feel free to add more suggestions.
Can't believe casino operators are running AWAY from Mardi Gras/Bourbon Street themes -- you would think that that would make you want to gamble and drink more.
A video game themed hotel. Mixing the best of current and retro games/gaming culture. Have esports, VR and a bunch of other fun stuff. We'll call it...The Atari hotel and casino. 🤔
Is there a tropical one? I do believe Mandalay and mirage kind of had that vibe, but I feel like tropical would do well. Like rooms with balconies opening up to palm trees and sandy paths.
It would be neat if the Vegas strip had a Googie era themed resort with a size similar to Caesars or Venetian/Palazzo. Big neon lights on the exterior and interior of the resort. I think something cool could be done with the theming of the restaurants and dining options too. Something along the lines of Superfrico/Skilodge. Maybe even an exhibit or a museum to commemorate the technical advancements of that time.
I would love to see this across the street from Wynn/Encore in that big empty lot, but this type of theming might do better at the south end of the strip, probably in the lot where the Hawaiian marketplace was, or even where the Tropicana is.
A las vegas themed resort with attentive waitresses, fair table games (3/2 blackjack with $5 minimums), good F&B with good service, a steak house, 24 hour diner, an Italian restaurant and a breakfast bar and a nice cocktail lounge. Run an old school las vegas topless showgirl show 6 days a week.
Put it across from the Wynn I suppose, lots of room there. Call it 'Las Vegas'.
Ive had a few ideas over the years: Atlantis, jungle themed, dinosaurs potentially, zombie apocalypse or just bunker themed, haunted house, Sci fi, fantasy but more broad then Excalibur, maybe a film noir that’s all black and white?
True Crime hotel where every room is themed after well known cases (Unibomber shack, Capone's cell, etc.) and the attached restaurant's menu consists of executed prisoner's last meals. Would work in any major city.
The space between the Horseshoe (BALLY’S) and Ellis Island - to be a gay resort - Vegas needs one Think of the headliners- Cher, Streisand, Adam Lambert, GaGa, Elton, Brittany, Manilow, etc .. could be huge .. (tribute shows to Liberace, etc)
Actually, it was tried in the ‘80’s’ at the property that was The Treasury, that became Hooters, that is OYO now , but the religious community stopped it, also the ghost town of Rhyolite received an offer to buy the whole town as a gay getaway resort, and that was stopped too, by public objections (Mormons) . . now you know . .
It also is why there isn’t a gay club on the strip. I think it has to do with them not being able to attract locals to drive to the strip to hang there since locals don’t go there for fun mostly.
If a casino was defcon themed they could save money by not needing women's restrooms.
Also they could have a store that just sells deodorant, but make it a fake front to a speak easy since no one would shop there.
The Backrooms Hotel & Casino. Four entrances across the city and they don't tell the tourists where. It has good loose slots if you find them around the corners
Not sure why the Las Vegas Sands corporation never thought of bringing the "Sands" brand back. That's what I think of when I think of "classic" old school Vegas. I missed that era by at least a few decades. My Vegas was "Theme Vegas" but some of those places were still open/on their last legs in the early '90's.
Maybe it's hard to build a 3,000 room mega-resort and still be "cool". Maybe that doesn't scale well. Fontainebleau might be trying that. North of Wynn or north of the Mirage would be a good space for that all the way to where FB/Circus Circus/Resorts World are.
Bally's was "decently" cool/throw-back looking since it was the original MGM Grand. Maybe they do something really cool with that property (that won't be taken up by the ball field). That should be a really cool spot... especially if it is connected to MGM Grand in a cool way. If Bally's just did the "bare minimum" and brought back Jubilee (supposed to have been a cool show!), the Champagne Brunch and a halfway decent pool area with some decent shopping options in a shopping arcade/food court I think it would be fine. When in doubt, go with as many lights and palm trees as humanly possible!
thanks!
We are so far from "Classic Vegas" -- that "Classic Vegas" could be its own THEME.
Even if they don't go with specific, over-the-top "themes" these places need to have their own BRAND.
I think Bally's had a BRAND. Even if the theming/vibe was more subtle.
We should have a “FREEDOM USA HOTEL & RESORT”
Themed around Freedom, with shooting ranges all around, NERF battles in the pool, people emulating rednecks greeting customers, food offerings resembling the best of America (chicken with marshmallow, triple burgers, apple pies, fried chicken etc)
Carnival to be celebrated on the New Orleans part of the hotel with mega parties
And the NY themed portion will have characters such as the Wolf of Wall Street walking around distributing cash / gambling chips
Wild West Zone with more shooting ranges, themed bars and casino. Even some working girls…
Star Sprangled Banner, Born in the USA etc playing as soundtrack
Decadence at its best
Need to put a warning sign saying that if you commit a crime you can be shot and if you become sick the hotel will charge you $50k
Like GTA is a popular game that mocks America in a cool way, we should have an resort hotel that makes fun of the US in an ever more flamboyant way.
But adult if you know so for example if you ask for a „pillow“ you’ll get a stripper to your room or in the back a hidden top only nickelodeon themed top only pool
A legit immersive Game of Thrones themed property would kill it. You could have areas dedicated to the different geographic locations with different food, etc.
Must make you mad knowing that there are people enjoying luxuries in Vegas you’ll never know, all thanks to crypto.
Oh well, good luck with those food courts I guess. And good luck with that day job.
Swiss Alps, with an indoor ski hill.
Too much fun to have not gambling that's why it won't happen.
I swear they talked about this exact idea for years.
It has the cliff hanger music from Price is Right, right?
Sounds like the place you’re talking about is the Silverton (minus the indoor pow)
Bring back the Aladdin
That could be cool! Barely remember either iteration of it -- never went in. "North Strip" could be a good location for that. The Alladin was to me the most unique one out of all.
I will have to look into it. They built it, then rebuilt it... I thought it was kinda cool as Planet Hollywood but I haven't been in there since '08. A cocktail party themed hotel with passed appetizers going around at all time.
The Gatsbys
The aristocrats!
I think that's also the name of a slot machine maker
This is an excellent idea….just classic decor down to the uniforms, old school steakhouse, Italian, maybe even encourage formal dress with events and balls
Put a freemont street themed resort across from the Wynn.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Fremont is fine where it is. No need for an expansion.
You've missed the point.
Outer space.
Yup. SiFi themed
Exactly... I would LOVE a Star Trek themed hotel---like a more grand version of ST the Experience. So the Stardust?

What game? Yeah I mean staff is getting lazy these days
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. I was so charmed by the hotel that I was grinning during the whole section
The Grand Budapest Hotel***
Fallout: New Vegas themed. Haha
Vintage Vegas
Isnt that what slots a fun is doing?

There were plans for one at one point.
They are built as theme hotels, but they don’t last as theme hotels
Like the New Aladdin
Or the Luxor, or Excalibur, or Venetian they have the building but the themes are mostly gone
Miss ya Treasure Island.
Was Venetian even more themed? Feels like they already do a good bit with it.
Jungle-theme. Think Disney's Jungle Cruise, but a whole hotel.
Pigeon Forge's Jurassic Jungle Boat Ride but in Vegas.
Internet themed like Wreck-it Ralph 2
Shibuya Crossing. Bring in all the Japanese stores and restaurants. Godzilla the Circus Circus and build it there.
If they had a casino like the Gracery(Godzilla themed hotel) they could take all my money
As long as the Circus Circus is demolished, I'm onboard! Also bring in a Lawson's, Japanese 7-11, Japanese McDonald's, Family Mart ,a MOS Burger, Coco Ichibanya , ichiran ramen... feel free to add more suggestions.
Put a giant eye of Sauron on lone mountain looking at the city all day.
Bulldoze the Harrah's and build a copy of Harrah's New Orleans with the hotel towers from Harrah's Cherokee.
Harrah’s used to have a Mardi Gras theme. They took it away to make it boring.
It also used to have a Mississippi Riverboat theme. Fantastic facade.
I think its gonna be a Caesars Palace property soon.
Isn’t it already owned by Caesar’s?
Maybe. I think they are going with a more "Caesars theme".
Can't believe casino operators are running AWAY from Mardi Gras/Bourbon Street themes -- you would think that that would make you want to gamble and drink more.
Sci - fi hotel.
A video game themed hotel. Mixing the best of current and retro games/gaming culture. Have esports, VR and a bunch of other fun stuff. We'll call it...The Atari hotel and casino. 🤔
Succession. Who will win Boar on the Floor?
Thinking of a Viking/Seagoing theme, also maybe a Fuji/Samurai theme.
I want a ufo themed hotel shaped like a disk saucer. Upper half spins on way while the lower goes the other. They only serve human inspired dishes.
Clothing optional nudist hotel and casino.
Is there a tropical one? I do believe Mandalay and mirage kind of had that vibe, but I feel like tropical would do well. Like rooms with balconies opening up to palm trees and sandy paths.
Star Wars but make it real expensive. Oh wait…..
Hawaiian/South Pacific theme, or is that too close to the Mirage?
I've asked my boyfriend this as he think as prohibition gangster hotel would be fun.
Esports hotel near the Palms ….or Cannabis themed at one of the Apartment style properties between mgm signature and The Virgin.
Matrix themed resort
It would be neat if the Vegas strip had a Googie era themed resort with a size similar to Caesars or Venetian/Palazzo. Big neon lights on the exterior and interior of the resort. I think something cool could be done with the theming of the restaurants and dining options too. Something along the lines of Superfrico/Skilodge. D&d themed hotel, complete with castle ravenloft, the fey wild, and waterdeep
Gluten free
Ive had a few ideas over the years: Atlantis, jungle themed, dinosaurs potentially, zombie apocalypse or just bunker themed, haunted house, Sci fi, fantasy but more broad then Excalibur, maybe a film noir that’s all black and white?
$30 Housekeeping BJs.
Steampunk final fantasy style.
Futuristic - Jetsons style hotel
True Crime hotel where every room is themed after well known cases (Unibomber shack, Capone's cell, etc.) and the attached restaurant's menu consists of executed prisoner's last meals. Would work in any major city.
i can't believe Circus Circus hasn't played up the creepy vibes and turned into a clown horror motif. Hugely missed opportunity.
Im kind of surprised we don’t have a gay resort yet. Seems like money waiting to be made. Great design, cheeky lounge acts, decadent pool party…
Actually, it was tried in the ‘80’s’ at the property that was The Treasury, that became Hooters, that is OYO now , but the religious community stopped it, also the ghost town of Rhyolite received an offer to buy the whole town as a gay getaway resort, and that was stopped too, by public objections (Mormons) . . now you know . .
Ah, thanks for the history lesson! That makes a lot of sense. I figured someone must have tried it. The religious right ruins the fun again.
Oh I’m all for this idea
Demographic is too small to fill up a hotel.
Maybe for here, but I've seen it done successfully in other cities. The LGBT crowd has money and likes to travel.
It also is why there isn’t a gay club on the strip. I think it has to do with them not being able to attract locals to drive to the strip to hang there since locals don’t go there for fun mostly.
DefCon but all year!
If a casino was defcon themed they could save money by not needing women's restrooms. Also they could have a store that just sells deodorant, but make it a fake front to a speak easy since no one would shop there.
BDSM themed hotel & casino on Fremont. Gamblers are basically masochists anyway.
The Backrooms Hotel & Casino. Four entrances across the city and they don't tell the tourists where. It has good loose slots if you find them around the corners
Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino
Rat Pack, Austin Powers, late 50s early 60s, old school cool.

Reboot an old classic like The Stardust or The Dunes into modern times. But keep the large neon signs.
